The pressures of life these days are so different to what they were just a few generations ago - the anxiety a lot of us feel is the 'survival mode' that people had to protect themselves and their family and motivate them...modern society in the developed world doesn't necessarily need to fight for survival but this 'mode' is triggered by contemporary concepts like how we're expected to behave, dress and think, which isn't natural. Social media has just blown all this up by orders of magnitude because you're not only basing your thoughts and behaviour on your local social bubble, but also on millions of people around the world. It took me a long time to snap out of this kind of thinking and just be myself, realise that "cool" is just an abstract momentary concept, and my relationship with friends and family since has been amazingly strong.
