As long as the "Euro" was held with 8 teams, you had about as much competent teams which didn't participate. In 92 there were Yugoslavia (the rest of it), Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Romania, Poland, ...

First if they were 16 teams, they could qualify Switzerland or Romania and Ireland or Poland. These teams were in the same groups. Second Spain was 3rd after Czechoslovakia and Belgium 3rd after Wales so these teams couldn't qualify as second. Portugal was a disaster, couldn't qualify for 10 years (1986-1996) to any big competition

@@alexparos2153 i was talking which important teams didn't participate in 92, not about the actual qualification. And if Euro 92 was held with 16 teams, the groups would have been different, don't you think? Actually I think a European Championship with 16 was best, 24 participants are too much

@@amina-pr8xt The qualification will be the same. They would take 2 teams from each group,in addition of one. I have to remind you, that the teams were more, after the dissolution of USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.

You don't need a colossal stadium to host a good game. 19,000 was modest by the standards of the day, but not tiny.
