Mir, I was born and raised in Shillong , after that I moved to US long time ago. Loved seeing Shillong through your eyes. About respecting what people eat you are absolutely right. I grew up people sitting next to me and eating beef. I had no issues with that. Now my daughters are totally vegetarian by choice so when we go out to eat or they come home I eat my meat and fish. I tell them I respect their vegetarianism they also have to respect my non vegetarian food.

Today discovered that both of you are very good human beings which reflected in your activities. Lahiriji enjoying Khasi food is delightful and Mirjis last words in the Khasi restaurant has earned immense respect. Request both to explore Assam.

এই চ্যানেল টা বেশ অনেকদিন ধরেই দেখছি, আজ আর আবেগ চেপে রাখতে পারলাম না, তাই লিখছি। জীবনের প্রথম চাকরির সূত্রে ৯০ এর দশকে শীলং থাকতাম, এবং ঘটনাক্রমে আমি ওই Elwin বাড়ির প্রতিবেশী ছিলাম এবং প্রায় রাতদিন, যখন তখন ওদের বাড়ি যাওয়া আসা ছিল। খানা পিনা এবং গান বাজনা লেগেই থাকতো , সবচেয়ে বেশি সখ্যতা ছিল আমার থেকে বয়েসে দশকেরও বেশি বড়, Wassan দা এবং অবশ্যই Ashoke দা (যাকে ভিডিও তে দেখা গেলো)। Lesita ম্যাডামকেও অনেক দেখেছি তবে কথা কম হয়েছে। আজ এতো বছর পর আপনাদের মাধ্যমে ওনাদের দেখা পেলাম, অনেক ধন্যবাদ আপনাদের মীর এবং ইন্দ্রজিৎ। আর একটা কথা , ওনাদের পদবি Alvin লেখা হয়েছে সেটা ভুল, আসলে হবে Elwin, 12:43 point তে বইয়ের মলাট দেখুন। হ্যাঁ , Verrier Elwin এর মতন স্বনামধন্য ব্যক্তির (anthropologist) পদবি ভুল হওয়া ওনাকে অসম্মানজনক বলে মনে করি। ভালো থাকবেন আপনারা, এবং আরো আরো ব্লগ দেখতে চাই।

It's honestly tiring to watch this in each video similarly. This whole series of Shillong should have been skipped by Mir. After watching the menu full of pork he ran away from this restaurant lol .

i think what he could ve done is clearly state that because of his religious reasons, he is not able to consume pork (absolutely within his right), but still give company to Foodka......but then again, his choice......

It's very unique that Meghalaya being a hill and mountain area to have such a great affinity towards the Dried Fish.... Will surely visit Meghalaya to taste all the cuisines....👍👍

Ohh wooow! I am so happy to see sorrel leaves in the cooking! I would not have thought it grows in India, a lovely discovery! I have sorrel growing in my garden and I have made a video of cooking salmon with sorrel leaves. I wish that aunty had a channel of her own that I could watch. Thank you for this lovely video! Edit: the European variety sorrel has much broader leaves compared to Gangura as per my research on Google. There may be a difference in taste too but mostly sour.

you are absolutely correct and the man had huge contribution to anthropological studies in India, i believe even today his books are studied in graduate and postgrad levels across universities in India. Ashok da used to own a pharmacy and his brother Wassan da used to be school teacher, with 2 kids, a son and a daughter. i was their family friend.

Indra da I spent my childhood till my graduation in college in Shillong. Now I live in lolkata for past 20 years and an IT employee. I can connect to what you are referring to and lot of nostalgia for me. Hopefully will connect with you someday to discover more. Mir is as usual too good, polite, he is a symbol of love and tolerance as per as my belief. Bhoot jhalukia with hidal shutki you should find it. There was a resturant named Honkong and Kim wah in police bazar , please find it if possible. .

Ohh man, that Khasi thaali looks so good. That pork looks like the black sesame pork. I've eaten so many yummy meals in the simplest of tea shops in Meghalaya that have pork smoking above their fire. Guess, Bhaipo doesn't eat pork. That's cool. Everyone has the freedom to eat whatever they wish. As I am a hardcore traveler & foodie, I will not hesitate to try anything the hosts have to offer.

Yes gongura leaf eta tangi taste hoi, my hubby is Telugu so I know that leaf here we eat gongura leaf pickle and dal even gongura is added in chicken also and gongura chicken is very famous 😊

Foodka is a series about food. So we expect the hosts to be food expert. And both the hosts had played their part wonderfully well till now except for this episode. Hosting a food series without tasting the food is not how you do the job. Mir could have stayed out of the entire episode but he chose to be a part of the episode except for trying the food. This is ridiculous. I have seen works of food experts like Sony and there is lots to learn from him. The words of Mir at the Khasi restaurant makes him a good human but does not qualify him for hosting a food series. If you can not get rid of your dogmatic religious principles why do you host a food series? It is entirely your choice what you will have as food and what you will not for an individual. But if as an individual you are adamant of not trying a particular dish why do you host a food series or at least why do you make yourself a part of an episode where the dish is served. P.S. Have immense respect for the job Mir does otherwise would not have commented. Foodke series a apni e bolen khawar jar na ache dhormo na ache jath. Bola ta kaj a dekhte pelam na aibar

We tasted this birds eye chilli in coorg as well. Chota packet bara dhamaka. Infact they make chilli wine out of that.

It's nothing but giving things a spin.I guess, Mir has a discomfort ( and there's nothing wrong with it, it's his choice) sharing a table where pork dishes are laid out. At Tratorria, there were other platters which I suppose Mir could have had.

Suruchi used to be there even in the early 90s, they were a bit costly, but food was splendid......had many lunches there...

Mir, I always liked you. Your anchoring, your diction, your acting... You are very very talented. I am a senior citizen. But my respect for you, as an youngster, has gone up at least ten notches, because you so beautifully put across the idea, of respect for a person, his food, and his beliefs. Of course food has nothing to do with faith. And we do not judge a person by the food he eats, nor his faith. But if an individual does have his own particular reasons for eating, or not eating a particular food, one should respect that, and not discriminate. Hope the message gets through. Also, why is Foodka scared of using the word alcohol or drink...? Why does he say ' eiye ' ? Come on, Bengalis drink like fish. Besides, in this day and age, drinking is not a sin 🙄. Getting drunk...... Is. High time, you put this message out too. Btw, your comparison of Megalaya to Scotland geographically, may be right, but certainly not the fact that people come from Scotland to Meghalaya. Few may. But very few. I do not know if you have been to Scotland. But take it from one who has, and also to all of Europe, our towns and cities, bear no comparison. Sadly. We are too crowded. Too dirty, too undisciplined and in short, not at all tourist friendly. Love India. Love to travel all over it and appreciate all it has to offer. But also acknowledge, our faults.
