The decklist out of the box comes with Path to Exile and does not include Sylvan Offering. There was a mistake in the initial reveal of the deck. Luckily, we added and removed those two cards, so look at us, making things better.

Oh my gosh thank you for confirming this! I was confused this entire time thinking that mine had a favourable print error
Don’t sleep on Prized Pig! It’s one of the best cards in the deck. With Sam out all of your food tokens are free to sac. You can easily generate a ton of mana/life in a turn. Pair that with any of your payoff cards and you can have a crazy turn.

For real. If you play farmer cotton with a big x and generate a decent amount of food tokens, you can instantly pop them all when sam and prize pig are on the board.

Ya tht with sam and the big lifegain cratorhoof affect would b nuts just make a bunch of food used prized pig too pop them all for 1 mana and buff ur guys for like +9/+9

That Prized Pig combo is what won me at least two games with this deck, quite literally out of nowhere :)

yeah at first i didnt think it was that good tiill i had a stacked field getting free mana off the prize pig by just eating mana and draining them w dmg cards thru lifegain
I think Field Tested Frying Pan is pretty neat. One thing you can do with it is use the Skulk from the Ring to get your attack in, then buff up Frodo before Combat with the Field Tested Frying Pan, and your opponent can no longer block it. It also lets you, similar to having a Deathtouch unit, just present a potentially really strong blocker.
I must say that i like the field-tested frying pan. Yesterday i played the deck for the first time without changes and i my set up was as followed: Sanguine Bond + the 1/1 token with the pan + bilbo + frodo + sam + 4 food tokens (in the end it were 5 with sams ability triggering at the beginning of the combatphase) total of 10 mana and i played Landroval, Horizon Witness so that the 1/1 token gets flying when im attacking and it cant be blocked because my opponent had no flying or reach. So in conclusion the damage was: 21 (from the Token) + 20 (from Sanguine Bond with 5 food tokens) = 41 (frodo also attacked for the flying ability but was blocked) Maybe i was lucky with the flying buff but it doesnt feel like its that hard to hit a combo like this. In the next game i had a Feasting Hobbit with almost 20/20 stats and obviously it couldnt be blocked because it was by far the biggest creature on the board. I think this deck has some serious oneshot turns.
Any chance we can get a look at what "Guys Who Magic" would make as a moddern deck for LotR? Love your commander videos but would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on a different format!
Here's a drinking game for the upcoming Hosts of Mordor video: Take a shot for everytime they mention a card that says "The Ring tempts you" or "Amass Orc", depending on which direction they go at it.
Frying pan is really cool imo, it create some dude and a snack when etb and can hit really hard in endgame. And if you have voracious guest on the field and some removal, you can burn your opponents to ashes !
You forgot about Gyome, Master Chef who can make creatures indestructible when you tap one mana and sac a food and he also makes food at the end of your turn equal to the amount of nontoken creatures that enter the battlefield under your control

It’s a good card, but my personal preference lead me away from him. Including him would by no means make the deck worse, and I totally see the reasoning in including him. My reasons are -Most of the halflings that make or use food are cheaper, and I wanted to get the mana value of the deck to be as low as possible. - I wanted to include as many LOTR cards as possible. -David

Gyome is great cuz you can also tap enemy creatures
Why not Archivist of Oghma? It's a halfling with flash that draws and gains life. It checks ALL the boxes to me.
Out of the box playing this deck I noticed it wants to do one of two things in regards to Food. Either crack one for the 3 Life to get Frodo going, or cracking/sacking as many as possible to maximize a card's power and or value. There pretty much isn't an in-between in that regard. (This Deck however also includes 3 Food being a bigger factor.)
@GuysThatMagic

I completely agree. Some of the bigger halfling beaters such as banquet guests and feasting hobbit want you to horde food. It does create a few awkward moments in gameplay where you both want to consume the food to feed these creatures, while also wanting to save your surplus for the incremental life gain. All in all I think the deck is quite fun, and I love how well food fits in as an artifact that green cares about. -David

@@GuysThatMagic Yeah, those awkward moments can be tricky. Depending on how much of a stockpile of Food, sacking all but 1 is the best option saving it for your next Turn. Having 2 Food in play is the worst when that happens.
the three mana aragorn works pretty well too
Prize pig is a bomb in this deck, you should reconsider putting it back in.

I was surprised to see they took it out. With Sam in play, the pig can just gobble up all your food for free. with Vito or Marionette master it can just win you the game.
Im not sure what direction to take this deck honestly. Lean heavily into food and token creation, but also aristocrats/reanimator?
i was thinking about taking out scattered groves for caves of koilos since scattered groves entered tapped.
Actuly used crypt incursion to remove my whole grave late game as i had been more or less wiped and then with the sanguine spell win the game due to the direct damage, quite like it
Love the changes! I'm curious why you didn't add the uncommon Peregrin Took or the uncommon Meriadoc Brandybuck? I think both would fit this list very well and might make hoarding the food a bit easier for the heavier hitters in the deck

@@GuysThatMagic Mistakes happen to the best of us haha. But yeah, room for the Frying Pan, Assemble, the Pig, etc.
Do not cut prize pig! It untaps automatically when you eat food, and Sam makes them cost just one. So if you have a massive number of Foods and a lifegain payoff on board, you can sac all of them for just 1 mana if you have Sam and prize pig
@Noremak_Notrap
2 ай бұрын
you can use all that quite literally. i had like 9 foods and prize pig out and those 'gain life, opponent takes the ammount you gain' effect and killed ppl just by eating food 🍲🥘
Why did you remove prized pig, with Sam out it allows you to crack every single one of your foods at once
So i cut all the ramp artifacts. I added more land ramp. Nothing worse than getting your artifacts blown up and having no mana.
I think no food deck is complete without legend Gyome, Master Chef. I think he’s worth considering, his ability can help keep the commanders alive Otherwise pretty solid improvements, especially the group-huggy stuff and treefolks. Just doesn’t fit here

Trading post is there for gaining life
I kept trading post, it helps get Academy Manufactor back from the GY but that's the only synergy so I can see why to remove it
Would marionette master work because you aren't technically putting food tokens into the graveyard for her effect to work.

Sacrificing anything in MtG makes it go to the graveyard. While tokens cease to exist once they are sacrificed, they still go through the process of going to the graveyard!

Considering the wording on marionette master mentions an artifact must enter the graveyard i dont believe sacking food triggers her, since food is a token and as such doesn't enter the graveyard
