Folsom Releases Findings From Study After Pinhole Leaks In Copper Pipes

The city of Folsom released new findings from a study done by consultant Black & Veatch that said the source of pinhole leaks may be deriving due to the water’s purity combined with a pH level above 9.0 and the use of chlorine.

    Problem is the acidity is too high and older homes using 0.028 copper. Either the city didn't do enough testing or someone from the government is getting kickbacks in the copper pipe or PVC conversion industry

    I used to live here. I started maintaining pools and used my test kit to test the tap water. It was acidic (6.8pH) and had chlorine levels the same as a swimming pool. That's probably why everyone in the area was getting rare forms of cancer. The young girl down the street from my house died of a rare cancer. Dirt used to come straight out of the tap sometimes too.

    @SJW libtard wrecker Standard liquid chlorine has a pH of 12 so it's definitely NOT acidic. Granular chlorine like di-chlor and tri-chlor have a pH of around 3. I'm pretty sure that's because of the added cyaneric acid which helps to stabilise the chlorine.

    I think it’s possible that copper pipes might have impurities in the pipe during production. Also, engineers need to look into seeing if stray currents from the homes electrical system is traveling through the pipes. If that is the case, any little metal particles in the pipe would heat up and possibly burn through the pipe. Another thing to look into, is if the electrical current running through the pipe is creating hydrogen gas. Best thing to do is talk to a company that specializes in electroplating to get more insight.

    There are two conditions that can cause a pinhole leak in copper pipe: mixed metals in the plumbing and acidic water. These conditions cause internal corrosion of copper pipes.

    That is not due to the water being too pure 😂. At intel they use ultra pure water that is dangerous for human consumption but will pit copper pipe but thats why everything out there is stainless. If all the pin holes are near fittings, that means the pipes were never reamed and turbulence is causing all those pin holes.

    For all you idiots that have commented "The measurement of alkalinity and pH is needed to determine the corrosivity of the water. The pH of pure water (H20) is 7 at 25oC, but when exposed to the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere this equilibrium results in a pH of approximately 5.2."

  • @rachbeth86
    @rachbeth863 жыл бұрын

    Too much PH causes this, that’s why it’s so important to test water for your pools and spas so your equipment doesn’t corrode. You’d think the water plants would know this obviously when it comes to our water and all the pipes that carry it to our homes. I feel like homeowners shouldn’t have to pay out of their own pockets for this honestly.

    9.0 is a absurdly high PH level. Chemically speaking, there should be no way drinking water could attack or compromise copper pipes. First, why so acidic? Second, any testing of this type should be very easy, the procedures are old technology. This sounds like another failure of California.
