Fitz started 147 games in his career and was the number one starting QB 10 out of the 17 years he was in the NFL. That's a starting QB, man.

Great minidoc here. He was always loved in Buffalo, wish he would've come back for one more season and a potential playoff game. But just as well, the guy played his heart out and more than deserves a happy retirement.

We loved him in Cincy too. He found his way here. He went from being a nothing 7th pick to a guy you could absolutely count on to hold the fort down.

Dude is a gem. He's had some epic games but it's great to see him as just a goofy dad too. Hope he has a solid announcing career

17 seasons as a journeyman is a pretty unique feat in and if itself

Fitzmagic always a class act. Happy that we’ll still be seeing more of him.

i lived a couple houses away from him in Houston, he taught me how to throw a football and i became friends with his two oldest sons, i introduced them to George strait and played skylanders and minecraft with them, he was literally the nicest and funniest guys you could ever meet, even as a 14-15 or so year old i knew it and could see it.

It's incredible that Fitz never played for the 3 teams my family follows. Even more incredible that we still love/respect the guy to death. While he was never really "elite", he also had to literally deal with a new cast of players, coaches, and coordinators every season or two and he still kept chuggin. Nobody wanted to see Fitz on the other side of the field waiting to come in during an injury or blowout because you knew he was going to beat your ass as a backup. Strange he couldn't keep that consistent enough to be a full time starter for more than a season or two. Still, ultimate journeyman!

Hands down the GOAT of backup QBs. If you had Ryan Fitzpatrick on your roster you had the NFL's best insurance policy.

The Bills signed him to be their number one franchise QB and gave him a massive 6 year, $59 million contract with a $10 million signing bonus and $15 million guaranteed. They traded him two years after than contract, but they did sign him as their number one. I would agree that, other than those two years, he was signed as a bridge QB or QB2. But you said "no one ever signed him to be their franchise QB"--- and that's just not true. Also, even those years he was signed as a bridge QB-- Jets, Tampa Bay and Washington come to mind--- he was still signed to be the STARTER not the BACKUP. He broke the Jets franchise record in 2015 for most number of TDs as the starting QB. He also holds the NFL record for starting for the most number of different teams-- nine.

That was one of the best NFL Films pieces, you can't help but love this guy. Must have been pretty amazing to play for all those different teams and teammates - it's like moving to a new school every year and being the coolest kid haha. And Charissa Thompson.....whew she's breathtaking.

Hes my favorite QB of all time. No matter how he played in a game, he played like it was his last. His entire worldview is just "hey let's just sling it, have some fun and see what happens". And it's a blast to see.
