1000 years ago the ancestors of Ukrainians just took part in creation of Kievan Rus (or "Gardariki" in Old Norse) after Varangian.invasion. But their Slavic culture is much more older. Kyiv (Kiev) is first mentioned in Nestor's chronicles in times when Goths (Germanic tribe) were defeated by Huns in the end of 4th century on the banks of the Dnieper...

But I want to thank you, Pure Emotion, which makes our Saturdays full of emotion, all the best (always)! These songs are super sensitive and beautiful! Thank you!!

This is going to be great I know, evern before the first note. I think I have mentioned Ukraine Folks songs on here many times. Thanks for putting a show to just these. In all fairness, I believe middle Europian countries have so many heartfelt folks songs. Some languages are better to the ear, and Ukraine is one of those for me.

So many stories go along with each of these songs, and also at least two of the coaches Tina Karol and Svyatoslav Vakarchuk. Shortly after I started watching the Voice of Ukraine a tragedy struck Tina when her husband died. She later started a charity to find a cure and offer treatments for cancer patients. Svyatoslav has had a remarkable muxic career with his band Okean Elzy (OE) and his political career. Pure, you do a great service by these Ukraine features. Thanks my friend.

@@MikeEgypte Well, it's two different topics: -- the variety of Ukrainian folk songs on The Voice of Ukraine, which is only some (and pretty small) part of known Ukrainian folk songs -- my favorites of those from The Voice of Ukraine My notice was regarding the first topic. although this playlist, presented by Pure, is very good. At least 3 of my favorite renditions are included. The only pity for me is that Pure didn't include kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaypqdyrlJS5kbA.html which is my beloved :) Yes I could provide some longer list of my favorites if you and/or Pure will be interested in that, but it will take some time. Besides other obstacles (including ongoing war that we have here), it would be kind of torture :) to select as I'm a fan of Ukrainian folk songs so I like all them.

It's impossible to know all of singers and groups active in Ukrainian folk songs and WSPAK are not from Ukraine (they're from Poland). Please have my special thanks for this hint, as I like both repertoire and renditions of WSPAK. _______________________ P.S. Sorry for my English -- I had almost no practice last years.

That great song in the end, about 25, minutes, is verry telling. Its a traditional song as I understand... It sings the glory of the ukrainian fighter and patriotism... AND fight against Moscow rule... Moscow. I mean, in long times was Ukraine dominated by Poland, and it wasnt always very fun. So to speak. Not under the noble republic days, and not in modern times 1920-39...(of course, truth be told, it went both ways, but that is another story). Yet, in their own songs, they arent sour to Poland, but they are verry sour against Moscow.... Of course, Stalins Soviet was horrible to Ukrainians, with millions of death... But they arent even singing about Stalin, they sing about Moscow as such... It cant been no fun during tsar-Moscow either...

Nice to see that your vision is similar to what Timoty Snyder said in Yale Courses, The Making of Modern Ukraine (if we're talking abt the USA info field). PS. The Chervona Kalyna song you pointed on, actually not so much a folk song, it has been created in very early yrs of XX cent, as a march of soldiers - shooters. For a purpose to be easy memorisingly it was written folk-stylish and rhythmically.

I do understand that this is a Folk Music, which is pertaining to the culture they were raised in (or believed in), but it just grates on my nerves. I think it takes away from what they are trying to SHOW or TEACH US!! Do YOU all understand it? To me, it is as if the "American Indians" got up and told their story by singing a pitiful moaning voice and then think it is entertaining us and helping to understand them. It is THEIR self expression! Not mine!! But, we are not entertained by it. They should know their audience b4 they begin singing their music to us. We don't know what their words mean. THAT is how this feels to me! It just shouldn't be displayed publicly to other cultures as a means of them entertaining us, who are strangers to them. It's very private, personal & they want you to KNOW HOW THEY TREASURE THEIR CULTURE! You can't possibly do it justice and they are right. You can talk about it, but displaying their story in music just does NOT explain a thing to the majority of countrymen they live beside in a community. THAT is where it belongs. I don't go to Germany to hear about America, yet I am almost 90% German blood. But, it is NOT my CULTURE. There! I think that's what I am trying to say. Apparently, you must understand their language. That might help, I think.
