Good pickup Zack... That drip tray fits in our dishwasher so it goes in for a wash along with the racks after every cook. I figured the vents were there for a a reason so I didn't want to cover them up. Could cut slits in the foil I suppose...

I don't use foil on that portion of the smoker. It is small and easy enough to spray with the garden hose a few times before you need to really deep clean. After 1 -3 cooks depending on how long they were, I will take everything out and give it a soapy hot water bath. Even with no foil, these pellet grills are really easy to use and clean up.

The thing about covering your drip pan with foil is that you are cutting of the air flow from the vents in your drip pan which are there to make your smoker run cooler & distribute the smoke more evenly, & it is far easier just to clean it, than to cover it with foil and mess with the dirty foil as the drip plate is a granite stone coated and is more easy to clean than messing with the foil, I completely clean my smoker every time I use it, this keeps the smoker working to the engineered specs, & if you do it every time it is a snap to clean. I use Formula 409 which has degreaser in it & it is cheap & then wipe it down with a clean damp cloth so there is no residue left in the smoker, not to mention it is a pleasure using a clean smoker every time you use it. Happy smoking.

Morning Zach. What I do is on the bottom rack, put a foil covered cookie sheet which, although it takes away 1 rack space but makes easy peasey cleanup. And the sheet is just wide enough to allow my smoke tube

I wrapped mine the first time and decided it more trouble than it's worth. I spray mean green on it let it sit a few minutes rinse with garden hose and done. Same with water pan. I clean both before every cook. I also put an aluminum pan with water under the meat so most of the grease fall into the pan.

If you use a normal size foil, you don’t get all the extra folding. It’s actually the perfect size. Zach has that Sam’s Club industrial size foil.

Yeah I had the same issue. Just regular sized Reynolds foil works. Also, I always slit the foil where there are openings in the metal. I figure pitboss has a reason for putting those in there.

Just place a large disposable aluminum pan on the bottom rack. I never have any grease in the grease trap, it never makes it there. Yea I lose use of the bottom rack but I never use all the rack space on my pit boss.

In my opinion you also need to open the vent slots for the smoker to breathe. Or get the Copperhead Onyx Cabinet, essentially a PBV4 with the PID controller, no WiFi, and you won't have all those issues.

@@TheAmericanSmoke Looking for an opinion. Being a Grumpy Old Man that lives alone, I need space on my apartment patio for quick cooks would you go with a small, Weber gas grill (Spirit) or a small gas griddle?

  • @TheAmericanSmoke

I would go with the gas grill and get a griddle top for the grill. A lot of people are doing that now and loving it.

@@TheAmericanSmoke Excellent point. The grill would be more flexible. Now to figure out what brand. I like the Weber Spirit 210 with the drop down side tables. I've seen the Nexgrill and the Charbroil but they seem so flimsy. The Weber seem much more solidly built. I had a Weber Genisis that lasted me over 20 years. Yes, I had to replace igniters, one set of burners, and a few set of flavorizer bars. That's called maintenance.

That’s how’s it made to be used. I sometimes use a secondary water pan over the drip tray that catches everything and provides more humidity in the chamber. But, the way your using it is perfectly fine. Thanks for watching!
