Focussing 1000 Railguns Onto A Single Spot
Ойындар
So, I'm actually a laser physicist in real life and there it's all about focussing the laser into a single spot to maximise the intensity, so I thought why don't I try that with guns in SE.
Idk about you but I think the artillery guns were the coolest.
Guys, we're almost at 10,000 subs, that's absolutely amazing. I've got quite a special video planned for that.

Mon calamari cruises and probably every Star Wars vessel can only really block energy attacks, like turbo lasers shots, with their deflector shield. Any projectile attack will just go through. Because of this, a lot of people questions why there isn’t any turrets in the Star Wars universe that fire actual projectile.

@@noxiousvex MACs are coilguns, not railguns. The main reason UNSC lost almost all space battles was the immense technological disparity; Covenant plasma weapons were hugely effective against human spaceship armor, human weapons in turn were mostly ineffective against Covenant shield systems, save for the MACs. They were impractical, yes, largely due to needing to build the ship around the weapon, requiring to aim the whole ship towards the enemy and due this they were also aimed by a shipboard AI to maximise effectiveness. And even then most ship mounted MACs were too weak to take down Covenant shields in one hit, usually requiring 2 hits or more, depending on the size and type of Covenant capital ships. Despite this, MACs were one of the few weapons that gave human navy even just a slight chance to dish some damage back, as without their shields covenant ships were vulnerable to standard anti-ship weaponry like Archer missiles.

Yeah the artillery guns were the coolest :D Something I noticed with some of the Warfare 2 guns is that even when they don't deal more damage (like how the gatling gun outdamages autocannons in a perfectly controlled environment) they always feel a lot more impactful just due to the sounds/tracers they emit (4 gatling guns looks like a stream of little BBs and 4 autocannons makes a big stream of flashy tracers). Makes me think that the 25mm gatling guns that have always been in the game could use a little sounds/vfx overhaul just to seem like they're more punchy.

How do gatlings outdamage Autocannons?
@neen4456
Жыл бұрын
@@Cooldude-ko7ps It's not by a large amount by any means, but the damage per second is a little higher. Autocannons probably do more damage per second when you're out at a distance and the gatling gun's spread is all over the place. It's also worth noting that autocannons can't "pierce" and have their leftover damage apply to the next block the way assault cannons or railguns do, and autocannons just barely don't do enough damage to small-grid heavy armor to break it in one hit. The armor's integrity is 560 and the autocannon shot does 500 damage, leaving a sliver of durability on the heavy armor and requiring another whole shot to break. However, an autocannon does enough damage to disable a lot of small-grid system blocks in one hit, so there's obviously tradeoffs. It's only a very small difference, sorry if you thought that I meant gatling guns were a vastly better choice.

THAT is a Borg wall, and you cannot convince me otherwise. Also, a lot of weapons focused on one spot doesn't seem like an effective way to take out a ship - they deal quite little damage, considering the amount of guns. One might do better with fewer, strategically firing guns working in tandem.

Its due to the way SE handles damage - since the projectiles all hit a single target point at the same time, the game considers it to have been a hit from all of them, and thus reduces the overall damage the railguns can deliver

Yeah with such a narrow focal point the it just punches a hole and most of the pain passes through harmlessly. In my experience a huge, flat slab of railguns is by far the most devestating, as every inch of the ship is hit by a penetrating projectile, perforating it like cheese.

Now do straight shot blanket cover artillery where the focus is to land a shell on every block of whatever is in front of it not a single point. Then give the array an armored cover and make it the broad side of a ship.
-...The Imperial army - Imperial Guard - Astra Militarum - THE WALL OF GUNS!
I wonder if the game would have let you go to each sub-grid and set it as a station? That would have helped tremendously when it came to performance.
Landing gear on the bottom of the railguns locked to a single plate would stabilize the array from those recoil forces.

Well with the new block coming to SE from the Grid AI update it might actually allow that where you can set it up to fire the railguns in sequence like one after the other like a "If and If Else" Logic sort of thing but i don't think it will replace the timer blocks though but they will simplify the actions where you can chain action with other actions like say "If Full ammo RG1= Fire Railgun, If else No Ammo RG1= Fire Railgun 2" which will be cool.

the 2:55 part makes me think of how this could be used for a Space Engineers cinematic thing, like the practical effect for a super weapon
You just made the ultimate bass cannon
if you are using railguns in array like this, you need to think of the projectiles acting in a slicing motion, meaning if you going to shoot a ship, you would want to turn the array so that the ship's thinnest orientation is facing the horizontal plane of the array. so in your example, I would roll it 90 degrees right or left, so that from my point of view the ship would be up/down and firing the array acts in a slicing actions to split the ship in half.
Looks like a hand. It's like you ripped life out of existence.
That's pretty realistic (Impact) for a digital reimagining. Cool.
I believe I owe you an apology, director Krennic
What is impressive is they make sound in the vacuum of space.
Maybe try to use a timer to fire each just a fraction of a second after the other, to avoid projectile collision?
You my friend need to make a sacrifice to CLANG
That artillery placement with the beat sync tho
This reminds of that scene in Gundam with the Orphan mercenary kids
This gives me halo ring vibes.
Man, if I had Space Engineers when I was younger, I'd have had a ton of fun working out the math to shoot the maximum number of simultaneous projectiles that can impact (and explode if it's such an ordinance) without overlapping each other's impact point, with the next volley timed such that the previous volley won't interfere with the next, all of which is adjusted live based on distance to impact. Optimize all the things!

What would be interesting is to make all the railguns point outwards and see if you can tear apart a whole fleet like a disco ball of doom.
5:41 Damn, that was like watching Anubis obliterate Abydos all over again,
That is super duper cool. But, I'm afraid my interest was more piqued by your graphics settings. Explain, if you please, how you have set that up?
I don't know how to do it myself but I know people make gun turrets that can lock onto a target and in this case aim at it automatically which in theory is you had each one on a auto turret the impact point could be narrowed down to one block and if you were to get the timing right one shot could hit as the next one is firing and you could drill through any ship

Nothing happened when firing upon yourself only because you were too close. that is why if you look through the video, your guideline focused the fire too close to your location, that Railguns actually cannot damage too close, something Ive noticed is when a railgun fires the animation is performed but the projectile that does the damage actually is spawned in at some point a bit infront of the railgun system. its a tad weird how they did this. but Ive noticed similar with Artillery cannon aswell that if you get close enough you cannot be damaged.
