    Thank you for making this review. Unlike other subjective reviews on KZread, you presented a scientific comparison backed by real world quantitative values you measured yourself and presented instead of just reading it off some specs sheet. This is what I consider true quality content.

    @@JulianKrause Hi Julian, does the AIR mode on Focusrite even come close to a real ISA One's sound? I am asking, because I got the Scarlett 2i2 Gen3, and while I like that AIR mode on it, it adds noise. And according to a sales rep, it's just an EQ. Do you have a real ISA One to compare with? Thank you in advance and for the good work!

    Excellent review. I bought the 3rd Gen Focusrite Solo Studio and I'm very pleased with it. No latency that I can notice at all. The mic that's included in the Studio version is pretty good and so are the headphones. Can't go wrong with any of Focusrites products, they're well built and reliable; when you plug it in it just works and stays working.

    Brilliant in depth video. I can see you went through some amount of work researching the important factors of what is a good audio interface. I got lucky finding your channel and I subscribed ! My 2nd gen 18i8 developed a hardware fault in the headphone section a few days ago si I call Tech support U.k ( I'm from Limerick, Ireland btw) and even though the warranty was over they decided to send me a replacement! That was really cool of them and I'm hoping it's a 3rd gen they send. Anyways, I just thought I'd show you some appreciation for the great video. Well done , Julian and Hello from Ireland! Tom.

To be honest, back in the day I’d plug in and unplug mics into mixers without checking if phantom power was on (if it was off, you’d know because there’d be no input from the mic!)

    Hey Julian! Awesome content man! it's really helpful and to be honest I've discovered your channel recently and I've been a big fan since then. I have a review request if you may: I wanna both record guitar well and record decent vocal stuff, out of a shit tonnnn of research I've discovered that I have to either go with NI Komplete audio MK II or an Audient. I know that Audients have good preamps but the sample rate of their inputs are only 96khz and on the NIs the sample rate is 196khz but I don't know how the preamps are. it would be a big big help to a fan if you do a review on those to specifically. I'm really in a bad dilemma. Thanx again for the helpful content man!

  • @protoman247

    @protoman247

    4 жыл бұрын

    The “down-side” is a “down-side”. You don’t fry dynamic microphones as phantom power has no effect what so ever on dynamic microphones. The voltage exist between pins 1&2 and pins 1&3. There is no potential difference between pins 2&3. So there is no danger to dynamic microphones. They don’t even see a potential difference. It is only a possible danger to some ribbon mics. But no beginner has ribbon mics. And anyone who does have expensive vintage ribbon mics would know best practices to maintain ribbon mics.

    3:05 I just referenced the manual and this device actually only has a frequency response of 20hz to 20000hz, despite the higher sample rates offered. I have a 18i8 gen 2 and it is great for general recording and for use with all of my current instruments. Recently I got a tascam dr-100 mk3 which has a response of up to 80khz! I got it for creating sound effects specifically though.

    @@catsfan2937 Interesting. I have never actually tested the actual response. The manual specifies the 20-20000 Hz, so I would assume it was a limitation of the architecture of the ADC and the low pass filter that would have been used with it.

    Is there any benefit to the "air" mode button as opposed to doing it with an EQ in your favorite DAW? Is air mode just doing digital transformations or is it engaging some analog hardware on the audio interface?

  • @ericryser5979

    @ericryser5979

    4 жыл бұрын

    I have the same question. In my admittedly limited understanding, a possible answer to our question is the fact that you can't boost detail that isn't present in the first place. Since air mode works at level of the signal that is presented to your recording gear, you will have those "details" in the first place. Whereas, if you try to emulate the same mid high boost using an EQ effect in the DAW, you may not be able to achieve it. Simply put, it's usually preferable to have the detail in the first place. And even if none of that really applies here, since you can turn Air on or off, you can just look at it as a more-or-less free option, as it doesn't appear to have added much if any cost to the unit.

    The DBX 286s can add gain if you have a microphone that needs it and it can add some real-time processing, which could be nice for live streaming or podcasts where you won’t or can’t edit the audio afterwards. If you don’t need more than 56 db of gain or the signal processing, skip the extra complexity and cost of the DBX 286.

    I love this. The attention to detail is incredible. Right up my street. Well done Julian. Currently pondering which DAI to purchase. Going to be recording guitar only (probably) with multiple mics, perhaps 2 SDCs and 1 LDC. Had looked at Roland Rubix 44 but keep getting drawn back to focusrite. New sub here

    Really good review and I like the way you explained how to use it. I just bought this and I’m getting the hang of it.

    I have seen quite a few videos by top engineers discussing this audio interface but this presentation is clearly the best I have seen.
