When Pohjanmaa was visiting in United States, the local sailors ware baffled about the small size of the Finnish flag ship. The Finnish sailors played a prank and told that this was only the landing ship from Pohjanmaa. The US sailors ware then amazed and tried to guess how big the mothership was 😁

How big a ship operates in the shallow Baltic Sea, where there are many islands. 😉
The most amazing fact is how little money the Finnish navy needs to develope, design and build warships with unique capabilities, like the ability to break ice. Just think how much the USN has invested in the Littoral Combat Ships...

IKR!!?? :) But the US will only ever buy US :(
I once visited the ship when it was docked in my hometown. Was a very interesting experience. Oh and your pronunciation of Finnish is admirable, you put in real effort, well done!
Too nice video about FNS Pohjanmaa ( mine layer ) ships 🚢 of Finland 🇫🇮 navigation forces..video clearly explained all characteristics and capabilities of this ship...also video labeled to historical backgrounds of sea mine usage in oceans and seas 🌊...thanks (weapons detective) channel for sharing this video
Another excellent video. I don't know of any other channel that makes videos about minelayers. I expected more attention to this interesting topic. You deserve more views.
A sea mine that can shoot torpidoes? Woot. Nice idea, so nice idea that I don't know how to react. Never heard a sea mine capable of doing that. Must be the best naval weapon ever created.
Rest in peace Pohjanmaa 01, you were long away from active year in early 1990. I was on next pear sitting on Rauma-class. I have served under hull numbers 70, 71, 72, 73.

Yeeii
just like an old devodet specialist who shoulders the weight of the unit.
cool
FNS Pohjanmaa is also the only ship large enough to have a sauna on board IIRC.

No. Almost every finnish naval vessel has a sauna onboard. Coming from a finnish navy sailor…

@@johnrade4201 I stand corrected. Considering how small apartment saunas can be, even Rauma/Hamina could theoretically have room.

@@EggwardEgghands no they couldnt. Coming from someone whos been inside of both classes. Thats why i said almost, not all😅
Certainly not one of the sexist looking ships I've ever seen. Kinda looks like a general purpose supply ship, that could dump a few mines over board.

fair enough, but "a few mines" is quite the understatement.

Taiwan should buy some.
