As long it's a character inside the series they appear (doesn't matter if it's a main, a secondary, nor an Antagonist, neither a Guest), the Darkness will take over once they make contact with the character, and since the Darkness won't "die", heavy-damaging the corrupted Character, isn't the best idea to take, as it would take the risk that the corrupted character will get stronger instead...
