    I've been waiting for an actual review of this, great job! I am leaning towards this over the MC9. I love the triggers on the Caniks but I love the ergos of my 509 and this looks like a smaller version of that. Hopefully I can find one to go test it out before I "pull the trigger" on getting one.

    Don't use steel wool on your guns! First try an ink eraser, if that doesn't do it, get a real copper penny (prior to 1965) , put some penetrating oil on the rust spot and let it soak in for awhile, then rub gently with the edge of the penny. This will remove the rust without damaging the gun's finish or metal.

    Thats close, i am leaning towards the M&P but i am seeing some stuff i like with the FN as well. I have medium hands so the FN should work for me to try. With me in Texas and you in Arkansas we have to worry about rust. Sig needs to step up their coating. Cause that’s all they kind of have going against them with the Macro.

It’s hot and you will sweat, again i love the Macro, fit’s my hands very well, shoots and looks great. Great out of the box experience but if they can’t admit the rust issue and fix it and provide a better coating on the slides that is going to be a issue. Glock and M&P shields seem to be holding up just fine.

    Awesome video, thanks! How would you say the muzzle rise/recoil impulse felt compared to your Shield Plus, and your Hellcat Pro? Been looking at a Shield Plus Performance Center 4" but I'm pretty interested in picking this up too, I love my Hellcat Pro though.

  • @livennick9

    @livennick9

    11 ай бұрын

    Thanks man. I appreciate that. The muzzle rise with the extended mag is about on par with the hellcat pro. The felt recoil is about the same. The shield plus Performance center 4” has less muzzle rise than the other two but it is also larger than both and ported. I’ve had a few malfs with my 4” pc smith. I had zero malfs with the fn reflex and the hellcat pro. The reflex is too thin front to back for me to shoot confidently every shot if I haven’t fired it in a few weeks. The past three weeks I have only carried my hellcat pro. It’s very reliable, very well built, light and thin enough for easy carry, and still holds 16 rounds. I honestly don’t see me changing from it any day soon. If you’re wanting a range toy, truck gun, or home defense gun I HIGHLY recommend checking out the new Springfield Echelon. I shot mine for the first time tonight and let me say it’s very impressive. I should have the video downloaded by tomorrow morning. It’s being uploaded as we speak but takes so long. Hope this helps.

    Thanks fkr making this, was curious if that was surface rust like you thought. In addition, i was wondering did you have any feeding issues during that 1000 rounds? Also, do you feel it will handle regularly training/using +p (like to train with similar ammo i carry with). A lot of the micros are not fans of consistent+p use ive noticed (why i ended up not getting my favorite of the bunch the mako R7). Lastly, that finish, could you keep us posted on if it continues to wear // you get any more rust spots? Still got a couple weeks before it looks like anywhere near ne will have this in stock. Regardless this still looks like to be my new EDC choice after this video unless you end up noticing anything after some carry time.

  • @livennick9

    @livennick9

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching man. As far as failures, there were zero malfs of any kind. To address the full diet of +p, well, I haven’t used but a box and a half and it did fine but my guess for all out training purposes I don’t think so. I could be wrong though. I’m sure it would be fine for a while but would probably amplify wear. Micros are great but they are what they are for the most part, kind fragile in my opinion. I could be completely wrong though. Hope this helps.

  • @livennick9

    @livennick9

    Oh and as far as the surface rust issue, I’m pretty sure it was hardened factory lube. It was on the extractor and it has a different coating than the slide and barrel. The slide is a grey/black pvd coating and the extractor is something else. Not sure what the finish is on it to be honest. But, as far as rust it’s rust free at the moment

    @@livennick9 ahh I should have clarified, just to keep the muscle memory fresh I like to make sure I go through a mag or two of the EDC every few weeks, with something similar to what I carry in it. Kinda similar really to what you did here. Some range ammo (usually about 100) then a mag or two of ballistic equivalent of carry ammo. (Which I never thought was extreme, until I was told the Mako wouldn't last very long if I did that) -- based on all this though seems I made the right call and waited for this to release, and definitely will be grabbing the reflex.

It’s hard to beast a Glock double stack so you’re good there. For where I live it would be the Fn for me as of right now. I have been carrying the shield plus every day due to the rust issues I was having with the sig. The heat and humidity here in Arkansas living right off the river is insane. We all pretty much require really good finishes and the sigs is not. However, if the Fn does not show rust or signs of rust over the next few weeks of carrying it instead of the plus I will probably keep carrying the Fn. for winter I will probably be switching back to the Macro Tacops. Sorry it’s so weird of an answer but it’s the truth. 3 main things I look for in a pistol are reliability, finish, and thickness.

    I have an FNX 45 Tac. Its a nice gun but I do have a gripe with concern to FN polymer products. They feel very plastic. I don't wanna say cheap but they don't feel like what you would expect for the price. I had the opportunity to try the Canik MC 9 and feels like a more expensive product for what is cost. My TP9 SF has better quality feel than a lot of more expensive competitors as well. Kind of makes me sad because I am conflicted about buying another FN but I like their 509 and 545 offerings as well as the Reflex. Currently carry a Hellcat Pro but I want more options for a rotation.

    If you think the other FNs feel cheap I would definitely pass on the reflex. The grip frame feels like about 25 cents worth of plastic honestly. The slide and barrel feels very solid. I wish the grip was the size of my mc9 and slide like the reflex and it would be perfect. The grip on the reflex in my opinion for me and what I like is just too small.

But I did trade it back in because I worked with it for a long while and I like one that is more natural to point. I mean let’s face it, if a person needs it then there isn’t time to focus. The sig macro points the most natural of any pistol for me I’ve shot besides 1911s. I had some rust issues with my first macro but I think I’m going to see if they fixed the finish issue because it is one heck of a pistol even if their customer service sucks.

    You get what you pay for. The Canik MC9 is a cheap piece of plastic, compared to the quality of the FN Reflex. Better trigger is very subjective. The trigger take-up on the Reflex is much smoother and shorter, with no creep after hard defined wall, on the other hand the take-up on the Canik mc9 is longer, grittier, and with noticeable creep. This is much more important than having a very short reset on a carry or self-defense pistol. Most likely in that situation you will let the trigger all the way out after your first shot.

    AGREE or DISAGREE? Here's a more articulate description of the issue I see with the Reflex trigger: The real issue I see with the trigger on the Reflex is not so much that it’s too light. At 4.5 lbs, I would call it “relatively light.” However, when that relatively light trigger also breaks farther forward than other handguns with which the shooter might be acquainted (Glock, S&W, Walther, etc.), the perception is that the pistol fires during what would (in those other handguns) be the take-up stage of the trigger stroke. That’s why I tried to stress at the end of the video that a shooter might have to be dedicated to this specific handgun. If he/she routinely fires other pistols, and fires the Reflex only on occasion, I could foresee the potential for unintended shots under stress.
