Thanks for the review John! Just getting back into the hobby after nearly 18 years out and back in the day I had a large ARF Pitts S2B as well as a Christen Eagle and LOVED them both so this will likely be my next plane come spring and some more time getting the thumbs and brain "reconnected".

You remind me of me… just got back in the hobby about a year ago; first started in 1974… in and out over the years - but mostly out the last 20, until I retired in ‘20. I have 7 planes now, including this one… I’m doing a TON of mods to it to make it more radical and responsive. Love the Pitts!

Love this model, and this is a good review. Book rates are much too low, after you get comfortable with it. Pinched foam hinges are ridiculous on a model this size; I’m hinging mine. Also changed then prop to a 16x8 (XOAR). And the plastic gear servos are another beef; I changed to Digital Metal Gear (FMS - $17 each). Also changed the ESC to an Avian for full telemetry from the AR631 I used (60A - 3.5-4.0mm and IC3-IC5 adapters required). It’s going to be a heck of a lot better when I’m done… and a lot more expensive. 🤷‍♂️

I'm glad you enjoyed it. You hit the nail on the head - it's a sport plane that works great for scale aerobatics. Some people put a bigger motor in but I feel they are making it into something it wasn't designed for and I'd rather buy an Extreme Flight offering that sort of flying. I use a lightweight 5000 pack (it's 750g) which gives an easy 7 mins in mixed flying. I shall take inspiration from you and spend the next flight working on CG and rudder trim to make sure she is dialled in as I fear I may have been a bit rushed in that department! I find it squirrely on take off (in yaw) which I need to work on (fingers/setup/a characteristic?) but otherwise it's an absolute peach. Unlike my Hangar 9 Christen Eagle which is a bit bigger, runs 8S and always drops a wing at the most inconvenient point - it's probably only in one piece because I am too scared to fly it much ...

If you fly the Eagle on 6S and the right motor it still has plenty of power and gets a bunch of weight out of it. The recommended 8s setup is overkill and just makes it way heavier than it needs to be. Mine will float in nice and easy and I've never had it drop a wing. On the other side the Pitts is indeed much lighter and easier to fly. But I fly the Eagle way more than the Pitts. Especially since the Pitts is currently for sale and the Eagle is not.

I really don't understand the comments out there about flying this plane at 125mm. That would simply be way too nose heavy IMHO. I thought it was a touch nose heavy at 165mm. In fact, I may look for ways to shift it back even further. I agree on the motor too. For what this plane is capable of doing, I simply don't see a reason to upgrade anything and as certain people will tell you (see the commenter above mine)--I like strong power setups. I think this plane has a very nice balance of power, flight time, and capabilities. It's a good setup right out of the box excepting the battery tray retention. Even though I didn't personally encounter that issue, enough people said something about it to make me a believer.

@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I’ll definitely look at CG again. I know I had to make 4 wing bags (and a fuselage bag that includes a box with the correct hex driver etc!) but it was worth it when I see it carving lines through the sky.

@@LilSkiRC Thank you so much for this comment. I bought the Eagle 2nd hand and came set up for 8S and even with a pair of 4000 4S packs. It’s definitely miles above scale power and it’s nice to know it’s only weight giving it the bad manners. It has a whopping motor and 100A ESC. Please can you tell me what motor and ESC are in your 6S set up?

Good stuff John and filming Dave. Very interesting battery retainer. Nice shakedown of the FMS Pitts. Big n beautiful. Always preferred the S2B over the S1S. I hope that you do another video after increasing the throws. ;-) AirHammer out!!

I've had mine almost 4 years now. 1st was lost due to the battery tray moving to the tail. 'Model AV8R' has vids on the cure of what little issues it has (battery tray, 125mm cg, & use a 16x8 prop).

Last year I upgraded to fms mg servos, 100a avian esc (telemetry. Then I was in the dark running rektrum txs), & avian 450kv motor (hobbywing). Maidened it early this year at our old grass field (b4 FedEx got it), & instantly became my #1 of 30.

@@RCVideoReviews I now have 5 FMS planes and my latest one, the Zero, was the first that had a Reflex unit. But, I recently bought Reflex's ($16) to add to the others. Not a necessity but you can always turn them off, eh? Love how you can use the Reflex software to update the units, or load it for the FMS plane it will be installed in.
