For real, these guys were probably Ed’s best friends in the story besides his literal brother and wife. With nothing but Kimblee’s betrayal motivating them, they rescued him and nursed him back to health, then hid him from the government for months. What absolute bros.

Ed's first real friend besides Winry (who was more like family) was Ling Yao, they were the same age and shared similar heavy burdens, which is why they got along so well even after he became GreedLing

@@werbnnerf It didn't age him. He just took a few years from his lifespan, why should it age him up? And why would it take so long to happen after the transmutation? The effects of a transmutation have always been immediate. If it would have aged him up, we would have seen him older inmediately after the transmutation, but that didn't happen. He's a teenager, at 16 years old he's still growing. Hohenheim is pretty tall himself and while Ed stayed on the smaller side as an adult, he grew some more until he reached his final height. In canon they mused his heavy automail might restrict his growth and he was equipped with lighter automail in Briggs. That might've had an effect as well.

In the middle of the day, which is seriously impressive. 😅

Can we just appreciate how perfect this scene is with the music? The song that plays is usually meant for serious moments, but it works perfectly here with Ed as the scary, mysterious, and intimidating factor here. It manages to use the same song to embellish both tension in the beginning of the scene, and comedy at the end. Plus, the song actually plays from start to finish and they made the scene match it in length pretty much perfectly. Which I'm also now realizng probably happens a lot in this show lol.

I remember when I watched this scene for the first time and my crush on Ed got out of hand lmao

Edward: My injuries are completely healed and I'm revin at FULL THROTTLE. BECAUSE I'M EDWARD ELRIC, THE FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST BACK AND READY TO KICK ASS! THAT'S RIGHT MAN! Me: And that's the bottom line cause Edward Elric said so!

I think this is the first time we see him a little more grown up than before, what an opening for a episode omg

I love this scene so much. That particular song is usually used for serious, tense, forboding moments in the show. I can't think of any other times when it was used somewhat comedically like it is here. Yes, there is real tension in the scene, but you realize pretty quickly what is happening. Edward is straight up Batman-ing these goons without even putting down his groceries. Everything is so perfect. The up-angled shot of Eds legs appraoching the room and Harris, Gorilla's quivering mouth and shock and Edwards baddassery, the mixture of tension at first, but smooth transition into comedy when you realize what's happening...Plus it all represents that Edward is healed, and he even puts a cap on it himself with the line about being healed, revvin at FULL THROTTLE!

It’s not trying to be used comedically, at least the way you usually would for comedy. It’s being used here ironically or inverse. There IS in a fact a terror coming, but it’s from the perspective of the officers that are being hunted, and Ed is the monster.

@@mikeclark7026 It’s definitely true that the song is being used ironically / in an inverse way here to portray Ed as the monster. No disagreements there. But I would argue that there’s really no way of knowing whether the creators of the anime intended for it to be used “comedically” or not in that sense. As we know, irony / inversion is a common tool in comedy, so it’s entirely possible that they did have comedy in mind here, to be taken in by the viewer alongside the “terror”. It’s an interesting debate, for sure. I think one detail that tips the scales a bit more towards the “comedic” side is how they still threw a “People calling Ed short and Ed getting mad” joke in there. Also, the first dude who got knocked out’s face lol 😵‍💫🥴 As a side note; this scene accomplishes so much. It has terror, an inversion of the portrayal of the protagonist, comedy, and it also sets up that Ed is totally ready for the next phase of his journey and displays his attitude and mindset for the viewer in a totally badass way.

@@davidma6616 I think it’s the best short standalone scene of the anime. All the other great moments are longer, or connected. This was just fantastic, and other than Ed being healed, didn’t have connective tissue to anything else.

This scene is so damn good. Ed's been out after getting impaled and using his own lifeforce as energy to heal himself and he returns with a fresh new look. One of the serie's highest points.

Honestly the coolest scene of Ed. He looks like a badass and I like the focus on his automail arm a lot.

We all know Ed gets pissed when people so much as insinuate that he’s short, but like I’m hella impressed by the sheer amount of rage it takes to bite through a kebob stick like that. That thing looked decently thick, and he bit through it in an instant. Bro is crazy

What I find kinda interesting that Winry is shown first. Bathing and happy like it's simple life for her while Ed is shown as a badass who's ready to take the world on. I never thought about it but I think it's because she's the reason he's alive, she's saved his ass more than she realizes and it shows that because of her being happy or at peace, Ed's always ready to start swinging.

Well, he did go for the simple ponytail instead of the braid afterwards. But logically, it'd probably be in the way.

As better as this show was to follow the manga i'm sorry but the use of the OST is REALLY bad in this show. With happy music in sad scenes or sad scene with happy music i mean it makes no sense. FMA 2003 OST was perfect, why did they change? (openings / endings are fine)
