Overlap WILL make your full-backs more attacking. With everything else at default, ticking overlap will change the mentality of FB-S from 'Standard' to 'Positive'. Same thing with underlap and an IWB-S.

Always nice to watch someone else’s view on these, I use trap inside as I currently use 3 CM’s and a DMC and I don’t use wingers so I try and focus the oppositions play into the central areas. I’m doing a youth save like yourself (how I came to follow you) and I’m still to get the best out of my players, it’s a fine line between a good tactic and a bad one when you done have the players.

Yeah that makes sense if you have a lot of players centrally and like you say if you don’t have the players for certain things you just have to make the most out of it. Which team are you using in the youth save?

@@LewisH90 I’m Piacenza, only just survived first season by 1 place, was predicted to be relegated so board still happy. I can see major improvements already with some youth players as I’ve got good training facilities, goal this season just to better last season, I can see me being in Serie C for a few years yet. My best player at only 20 years old already wants to leave and is going to run his contract down 👎🏼 first youth intake was golden generation but that’s not a surprise first season 🤣

that explain alot why i failed with my aresnal team now LUL my tactics didnt fit players and my style haha as someone who only has 50 hours in FM that video solved alot of issues i had . now to going to listen to play instruction

Really helpful video thankyou You mentioned low defensive lines not really working, I enjoy using non meta tactics like you so tried for a long time and I’ve found low line works if you just have one or two players pressing and everyone else holding shape - say a 442 I’ll have a PF and a SS pressing but I have press less often on for team overall, with good marking and positioning, you give up a lot of shots and possession but they’re all like .05xg, I’ve found I’ll match their xG but mine will be 2 or 3 clear chances and they get 20 shit ones lol. You do need a really hard working defensive squad

Yeah it takes a lot more work but you can get it going eventually. Really satisfying way of playing the game too, glad you got it working!

Very helpful content! Actually trap inside is pretty useful against wing-plays according to my experience, the opposition will pass in to the middle of the pitch and easily lose the ball as all other teammates are on the wings. Though trap outside is used more often, it makes the defensive shape pretty compact

So in my save i started unployed and stayed for a year to grab a non league portuguese recent promot to 4th div ( campeonatos de portugal ) i went with a 4 df line ( 2 cb low pace good heading power 1 dmf (12 pace/15 better) 2 cm (box to box) 2 wingers and a adv foward . Low defense line low press (invite in opponents) . Basicaly in posecion team trys to go as fast as possible ( discipline ) up the pitch running foward in to space to get the ball and. Got good results promoting 2 times bfour changing to a more possetion style

This video does exactly what it says on the tin! Now to see if the tweaks I've made based on it will help haha

Usually whatever tactic you have, you want to just make subtle, small changes to that. So things like moving the mentality down to balanced, maybe a mid block instead of a high press or moving the pressing down by one notch etc. doesn’t have to be loads of changes just little things so you’re players know the majority of the tactic just a few differences that make you more solid.

Ideally I’d like to start matches with a basic set up and adjust as the match develops but does that mean tactical familiarity will never get to a high level?

You can do that, you will take a little bit of a hit but in game I adjust small things all the time but the hit you take is definitely worth it if the change makes sense and is beneficial. I’d just put it three different tactics of varying levels of style so more defensive, more attacking and normal so the hits you take are less severe.

Less instructions means more freedom for players to choose the right option, sometimes making them do or not do certain things can inhibit their creativity and some situations need them to be allowed to do something you have checked.
