Hey 12 Volt.I know that is not a kit but it brought back memories of all the Heath Kits I used to build when I was only 14 years old.My father insisted on it as he was also an electronic tech. He made most of my toys out of metal boxes with the old bayonet 47 bulbs. My Mom told me I would not go anywhere without it when I was 4 to 5 years old.

I did a video on another version of this radio. I also figured out how to control it with serial AT commands. The commands are here www.dropbox.com/s/13hmmbstgu7exx6/at%20commands.txt?dl=0 Mine used TTL and I had to connect a 5v ttl to 3.3v serial adapter to control it. Serial settings: 9600 bps, 8N1, XON/XOFF With the AT commands you can tune outside the FM band but it does not seem to pick anything up.

That will come in useful if I ever do get the module. There is one particular radio station I like the timeshift and I have been doing it with a TV tuner and it's kind of funky but it works. I have been thinking about if I can find a module with USB audio out and some sort of control that might be scripted. That way I can devote the TV tuner to TV. and use Playit recorder to record the set audio interface at time and script Channel changes, freeing my microphone input for something else.... and that isn't a backup radio recording because the TV Mac tuner software is crashie (although it outlasted the Windows system that is used as a backup with a small radio and had a hard drive crash last year).

Great radio module. Problem with this module which I can see with this module is the display in located very deep on the board compared to two very protuced knobs for volume and tunning. All seems OK but these two defects could destroy the beauty of the product when packed in some sort of casing or housing. Great review sir.

I have one of these. Pretty cool little device. If I run a cable from my Pixel's USB-c port it will power this module and the frequency knob changes songs...and yes it remembers the station when unplugged and plugged back in. Their FM transmitter is cool too!

Simple question, if the power goes off when power comes back on does this radio turn on and does it remember it's last frequency? I have a booster on the same channel as my primary. My issue is I can't hear it where I live. Somehow I need a radio that feeds into a computer and can be linked online to my computer at home.

I bought one a couple of years ago and was surprised too find that both encoders worked in reverse, that is clockwise rotation resulted in the lowering of volume or frequency in both cases. I swapped the end connections of both encoders to resolve the problem, Other than that niggle the module is excellent value for money considering that it has audio amplifiers built in.

Being a newbie though I would like to know if there is way to select an mp3 folder/file from a usb stick which would be on a WiFi / Bluetooth board with the tuning knob and dial on a vintage radio or is the only way Bluetooth

there are supposed to be different settings available via short/long presses on the 2 knobs. i was hoping you would show those functions but i guess you were not informed at the time of the video. it would have been nice to have some dimensions as the website has none. hopefully amazon's info is correct and i'll just order one and return it if it doesn't fit. but at least i got to see the color of the backlight. thanks.

Very cool module. I bought one and I plan to build a small portable radio. I will be running it directly from a power bank battery (3.7V) and not through the 5v side. I have two nice 10 watt speakers I got from a broken flatscreen TV and a see though case that a toy watch came in. I have nearly all the parts I just need time to do it.

I doubt you will get 3 watts from a 5 volt supply. Chinese watts probably. I would guess more like 500mW.

I see that this device requires 1000mA at max power output (only 60ma at min volume) so it would be interesting to know how it performs if attached to a USB2 port on a laptop (1/2 volume?). If using battery and run it at max output, it may be a good idea to build a battery charging port into anyr enclosure.

I didn't see station scan function (usually pushing tune knob once). Why? Does it exist? 🤔🤔🤔

That's a handy radio that can be added to all sorts of audio projects, or just in a neat box :-D. It coped well with the noise level in your house, that's not bad :-D I'm thinking a small neat double speaker box with it mounted in the center.

How is recieving capacity? Whether it will pick up the station which is far from 200 km? Can you please test it and confirm?

Well considering that FM is line of sight, I will say no. Perhaps 50KM away, but not 200, as FM radio doesn't travel that far as you are well over the horizon.

Hi. Great videos, explained very well. I would like your expertise and input if possible please. I am thinking of a modernising a vintage radio to play 30s and 40s music from websites directly as I’ve not found any FM stations that play this music, and maybe play old recordings in mp3 format by artist. This would give it an authentic feel, from yesteryear. I would like it to play music and choose stations from websites wirelessly directly, not just Bluetooth through my phone or tablet. Is this possible at all or am I expecting too much. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards

Yes one of the up2stream modules from arlic would do the job. They steam live via wifi. They also have bluetooth capability. They have both mono and stereo. Have built in amplifier. Just connect to speaker. Then you cab stream from oldies streaming services all day. No phone needed except to set up and it is done by wifi.

Do these modules actually have USB audio output? I want to know for a friend .... no wait I actually want to know, ideally I'd come in on a dedicated interface that I can have my timeshifting software see it a lot easier.

@@12voltvids assuming the order goes through that I probably shouldn't of placed we will soon find out. If not I'll just go into the line input. I think there's two versions of this board floating around so I really don't know what I'm going to get.

    1. What is actual name of this module? 2. Do it requires external Amplifier for audio output? 3. Can we find it on AliExpress, eBay etc. in India and will it work in India? 4. Can you assemble it on any case/box for perfectly carry as portable device?

Those KZread bots can block you but you could ditch KZread and move to Floatplane and see how they like it, I wonder if you could get firmware onto that FM radio to enable Digital Audio Broadcasting reception.

Why would I do that? Is floatplane going to pay me as much as youtube does? Listen, none of the other platforms even come close. You might not like youtube, but as a content creator I depend on the revenue stream from youtube. You might not agree, I seem to hear from trolls that I should be doing this for free, and from those other idiots that say they do it for the enjoyment and don't expect to make a dime. Souonds like a bunch of people are jealous because my channel is successful and I am making money from it. Not enough that I can quit my day job, but that is the ultimate goal, so I can retire from my day job in a few years and then my sole source of income will be from the youtube channel.

Floatplane belongs to Linus Media owned and operated by Linus Sebastian for people who don't want to stay with KZread users who are already on Floatplane are Bitwit, Linus Tech Tips , The wan show and that was during the beta period but now it is open to those who want to be free of the KZread bots and the restrictions of KZread but it is then possible to upload from Floatplane to youtube every 3-4 weeks reach out Linus and see if it is for you.
