i've seen people staring at me when i plug in some cheap FM dongle to my MP3 to play on the stereo. «IS THAT LEGAL? YOU CAN TRANSMIT OVER A BROADCAST?» literally, yes. and I even did it years ago rickrolling a football match in a building with a VCR's coax output. Now with DVB standard, it's going to be more difficult. BUT HEY wouldn't it be cool to have some HDMI dongle that transmits the video of your PC/laptop/console into DVB-T to any screen/TV you want at home? I should make something like that for cheap.

Most bluetooth modules can be used to recieve and transmit FM signals. HTC had for a long time an app they made to take advantage of this, but not the transmit part, but a third party app developer made the transmitter app that could be used on a rooted device, and the radio functionality worked great as long as you had 3.5mm headphones plugged in to act as the antenna, even able to pause and record live radio feed. The last phone I believe they shipped the FM Radio app with was the M10. It would be cool if GS could showcase taking advantage of a Bluetooth module in this way.

Look up the Spirit FM Radio which can be used on Android phones with capable chips, or as in HTC phones a replacement for the stock FM radio app. The replacement apps need root access as the OS isn't setup to use the FM but the drivers are already capable. HTC devices Android build is already setup so no root is required, unless you want to broadcast FM signals from the device. @@laernulienlaernulienlaernu8953 Here in the US, you're able to broadcast on the AM or FM band without a license as long as it's under, I think, a quarter watt. That's maybe enough power to make it to the other side of your house, but that's about it. That's why those FM transmitters are legal, the ones you connect to your phone or mp3 player and pick up with your car radio, in case you don't have an aux port. I would think most countries would make such allowances.

It does happen. As many others have mentioned, it's fairly common to use an FM transmitter to send audio from things like a cell phone to a car stereo that doesn't have inputs like audio jacks or bluetooth. Those transmitters often use either very low frequencies or very high ones, and by a coincidence some radio stations that I listen to tend to be found very low on the FM band. So every so often when I'm driving in traffic I'll cross paths with someone using an FM transmitter (we usually call them "FM Modulators" when talking about this application) . For just a moment I hear the music or podcast or whatever the other person is listening to. The signals aren't very powerful and don't go very far, so unless you find the other car and nearly drive next to them you won't hear it long, it'll come and go giving you only just enough time to notice it and hear the general nature of what the other person is listening to.

And even could have room for RDS. Anyways China would fill it up with propaganda.

If this is the old 1-transistor-fm-transmitter circuit 3$ is close to a ripoff. ;) The actual transmitter is one transistor, four resistors, two capacitors and a piece of silver coated wire wound around a pencil core :D One of my all-time-favorite circuits!

What really would be funny,is if you would hook up a signal to it saying: " Attention please! There will be coming the snow storm brigitta in approximately 30minutes. Please go home and hide in your cellar to be safe. It is expected to get down to negative 45°C with wind speeds of 185Km/h. Please Seek shelter as fast as posdible! Dont drive on the roads and stay away from trees! " And all of that at a 35°C Summer day with blue blue sky and with no wind at all.

What are the rules for FM or AM transmission in Germany? In India we are legally prohibited and requires special operating licence and designated frequency from the spectrum of FM. Same goes for AM but usually not given anymore. MW transmission is restricted and kinda obsolete as well. Civilians are never granted such licence and only organisations are granted after long vetting process.

I was just trying to figure this out. I was going to just use a 12v fm transmitter/ Bluetooth with batteries. One of the outlet ones. I work in an environment where we are not allowed anything Bluetooth. I just want an SD card port and transmitter to a FM radio.

I use one in my car because my car doesn't have bluetooth or usb. You can get one for cars and just hook a 12v battery to it. They are really cheap. They are often called fm car kit.

@@trw8777 yea. I was going to modify and 3D print a front part of that device so it will work on batteries. I work in a prison so they are a little picky. I have to add a charging circuit. Should be cool.
