I understand he won the league and got the final with man u but as someone whos played fm for years it feels like he reached a high too early to understand the basics when your new to the game, he has some understanding but always delegate training set pieces social groups etc when you start. The MOST important thing to do when you play with a weak side is keep morale up on your players no matter if your losing or winning - praise and critisize them on there training performance, last match performance and last 5 games. If you don't do this you will lose the dressing room and there is no return for this. When it comes to tactics as nick clearly knows but is doing the opossite DONT KEEP SWITCHING TACTICS, clear your tactic look at the squad screen and sort by positions which should show you all players from goalkeeper to attackers and there preferred positions use this information to help build your formation and roles once you've created a base look at gap analysis to see where there is gaps in your formation a opposition could exploit however if you plan to have a wing back on attack or cm on attack just ensure the benefits of this outway the negatves. and have basic instructions; for line of defence i prefer to have balanced and attack with a high press, in this video you can see he plays high press on the attack and lower on defence this creates hug gaps in the middle, and if you were to high press on both you need to ensure you have quick centre halfs. Also after a few games look at your data hub to help make tweaks to your tactic. I could go on forever but morale of story KEEP MORALE AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE keep things simple delegate when unsure and play to your teams strengths.

The gap in the midfield between the press in attack and defense + setting press to its max instead of the default is why he is getting cooked from every angle. Always set very "tame" press instructions on team screen and go overboard with player instruction press , same with any other type of instruction imo.

I dont think he reached the highs to early. I actually recommended everyone i got to play fm to start with a rich, great facility, great team (United isgrossly overvalued for years) to ease with the FM being very overwhelming part. FM is a sandbox game and while its incredibly impressive to pull it off on the literal first try ever, for the rest of us its not exactly a challange to win the CL with United, is it? And here he took a particularly hard save thats incredibly frustrating (basically luton but with less money) cuz the whole club is grossly out of its depth on all fronts. He did go from easy to hard mode in a heartbeat

Its Also impressive that he won the League with United in his first season. The squad is NOT that good. But that being said, he has absolutely no clue, about what he is doing at this point.

At this point, you need to come to the realization that you will be in the in the relegation battle pretty much no matter what happens. losing your first five straight, should’ve tipped you off to that. I do kind of support the idea of a 451. With counter attack but also play with possession you really want to try to limit the opposition chances when conceding so many goals. Your really hoping to drop it to a goal a game.

Pick your defensive structure is so bad you need to squeeze the pitch and either run a mid block with a higher line or just go low block with low line

the reason u are struggling Nick is ur team is not good enough to play the the style u want them to play in the bundesliga + ur team cohesion and morale is probably low. Since u are conceding alot of goals i think going for a more defensively stable formation with more players back and lower line will help. And ofc playing counter attacking football.

normally i would play 5atb with this shit team but they're not built for it, he needs to sign some good wingbacks. 4-2-3-1 is probably fine but his tactics are all over the place. cautious mentality, low block, high press, high intensity, it doesnt make sense.

I have beenplaying fm a long long time. I got ucl wins with southhampton etc. My 1st thing i saw within ur tactic is your line depth. Ur lower line is to far from your attackers which means they try a lot of longs passes "so i checked the heidenheim squad" and i didnt see a single one with high passing/long passing.. ur defence doesnt reach your attack often "low xG"

Zealand has a save your saves series, maybe you can get on there and he can help you out

For the 424 tactic don’t use 2 ball winning midfielders you will create less chances use a playmaker or your midfield will lack any attacking threat

Nick, I believe in you at Heidenheim, but to win, you need to fix the gap between the midfield and defense and please don't just play a tactic, use one that fits your team, and stick to your tactic, don't just swap it every week, stand by your belief. If you sadly leave the club, continue the Man Utd save at another top club or go to a team like Atalanta, Roma that is above Heidenheim but below Man Utd. (Ok, maybe Atalanta or Roma is better than United)

Idk if you see this pick, but you either have to run the 4231 with wingback role on support and inside forwards, or drop to a 5 back with two wingbacks 4231 with wingbacks and inside forwards and an advanced forward is broken at any level in this game

bro you have 2 much space between lines for your opponent play in the midfield. plus you have "prevent short gk passing" which will create even more space between your lines and your team will press 2 much leaving more spaces. if I was u, i'd turn off the prevent Gk passes and put a much higher line in defense to leave no space between lines.

@Nick, I think Man Utd was a great starter save, but this might be too much too soon. If you do another save I'd recommend a big club in a minor league (like Celtic in Scotland, Zagreb in Croatia, Salzburg in Austria, Porto/Sporting/Benfica in Portugal or Ajax/Eindhoven in Netherlands). You'll get the experience of having to buy/sell at a lower part of the transfer market, developing players, working with smaller budgets and having to manage against way stronger teams in Europe but you'll have the safety net of being one of the best domestically. You'll basically get to manage like an aspiring club in Europe but like a big dog super club domestically. A relegation battle, especially in a top 5 league that isn't the Prem where budgets can be really low is a very tough challenge for only your second season of FM and means you have to learn a lot more, very fast

You need a tall center back high, jumping reach high heading to clear those crosses out of the center.

I'll have to come into the next stream to give you a tactic I always turn to when results ain't coming in

I don't know how this works but I'm at a journeyman save right now with relegation fodder club, i do auto select full rotation and play them against big clubs and sometimes you get good results

Man picks one of the worst teams in the Bundesliga and expects to be Top 4. 😭

Just make it counter attacking without high press. Maybe 3CD and attacking full backs or wing backs, half back or defensive midfielder and supporting CM, target forward or poucher and other forward or shadow striker. You need to defend because you don't have players to play ball. Just fast attacks using wings. If you get 4-2-3-1 working well forward you are propably still bad in defence. And for the sake of god stick with tactic you choose. They doesn't learn them without playing.

You can suprise teams on FM if u are a lower table side and u go full out attacking since they expect u to park the bus as a smaller team(park the bus isnt always the way)- Your attack / defense line is too open and ur trigger press bar in the out of posession team instruction screen shudnt be maxed out. Always set very "tame" press instructions on team screen and go overboard with player instruction press , same with any other type of instruction attack/defense- Make a choice on either Attacking / Defensive mentality (not balanced!) the only thing that changes is what team instructions do so even for defensive formations i go attacking mentality, and build a defensive formation with said instructions, balanced just has bad preset options/runs . PS. add Team Bonding and Teamwork in the training schedule. Just throw em in there every so often .

Rest your starting 11 minus your goalkeeper after games for 2 days and it helps your players not get tired as much Just right click and go training then rest for 2 days Mostly do this when you have more than 1 game a week

I'm so sorry for Nick because he's a nice and funny guy, but FM isn't for everyone. The amount of mistakes I saw in just 2 episodes is incredible. You need a lot of time to improve, especially when managing small teams.

You won't see this comment but brother, you are Heidenheim, you've never managed at this level. Team morale is the most important thing in fm, even if you lose say unlucky, if you get a good result like a draw vs a decent team praise, praise good training and criticize bad training. A simple 4231 tactic with not many instructions should be good, train chance creation and chance conversion every week. stick to a tactic and don't change too much.
