Lyrics:
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn’t get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Don’t know what you’re thinking of
Slipping further out of reach
To the edge of town we could go
Away from all the world to see
You were wild trying to set yourself free
I didn’t see the signs right in front of me
Oh, I’m running in the night so soon
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m leaving it all behind, running in the night with you
I won’t let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
I used to be the one
I used to be your place to land
Under the shadows
Into the palm of my hand
You’re always changing the situation
Just when we found paradise
You’re always shutting down my conversation
I can never read your mind
Oh, I’m running in the night so soon
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m leaving it all behind, running in the night with you
I won’t let you get away again
We can see it through to the end
But whatever we do
I'm running in the night with you
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
Running with the night
Ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh
I’m Running with the night
I used to be the one
I used to be your getaway dreamer
I couldn’t get enough
Thinking that we would last forever
Chorus repeat x 2

I'm 36 and this takes me right back to my perfect '80s childhood. The '90s were great too (with their own unique flavor), but the sound of the '90s happened to mirror my personal and family life, when everything fell apart internally and externally. These changes as a teenager consequently caused me to look back on the '80s as a total romantic, filled with memories of great toys and cartoons (Robotech, G.I. Joe, Transformers), my first video games (Atari, Commodore, NES and pizza parlor arcades), as well as MTV. I was constantly surrounded by music by my parents, whether I was getting taken to a concert in LA, or visiting dozens of record stores, seeing the crazy fashions, and soaking in the music of Talking Heads, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tears For Fears, The Smiths, U2, and so many more artists that were pushing technological and stylistic boundaries. There is a sound here...those tinkling keyboards...the huge synth-drums...the heart-on-sleeve lyrics (before irony and apathy set in)...an innocence and vitality that is hard to ignore...The sound and feeling of hope and unbridled love. Thank you, FM-84, for briefly reviving something inside of my heart, every time I hear this.

That's about the time I found this song too, came up on the radio just as I was parking my car in some random neighbourhood. And it blew me away! It was a perfect warm Spring day (I'm in a different time zone, so it was Spring and not Autumn!). Later, I drove around and around with it on repeat, front windows wide open, foot down on pedal, hair flying in the wind. I felt like I changed somehow just from that one song...probably mostly because it took me back to my 'yearning teen' years. Definitely best to hear it only, and not to watch it as a video!

I was born in 1972, grew up in the 1980's. Most of the best years, best memories of my life are from that magical decade. Even those older than me (parents age) agree. The 80's is a past that still feels like it's in the future. The 80's feels new even 35-40 years on. The 80's makes me feel young, it makes me look forward to years in life I no longer have in front of me. It makes me miss a girl that I've never met. It makes me believe in a future that's already passed me by. It's the impossible dream that still feels within reach.....

It’s surprisingly simple on one level, but remarkably complex as well. It triggers memories and emotions that you may or may not have had or dreams you only half recall and captures the cultural zeitgeist of an entire decade in an easy to digest format. All this from a 4.5 minute pop song, quite amazing.

It really was. People from the 80s were quite naive, which made the future they thought of looks awesome. Simpler times too. Nowadays everyone is connected to the rest of the world, this brings a feeling of anxiety, everyone's worried all the time. I guess that's the price to pay for technology.

We are all in the same boat and dreaming of this being our thing. End of the day though we don’t need world domination cos that’s when genres lose it. Just build the community and do gigs , some festivals. I can’t see why this can’t build a huge audience with songs like this. Even a few years later we are all still here listening. That says something man.... Get ya surfboard and I’ll see you guys out there , Back to the beach at sundown for a bbq fire and all the girls are coming, Beer is free. Fm 84 , Timecop and the midnight will be here about 22:30 to take us till sunrise ... We can make that happen

@@VinylSamuraisMusic I'm totally from the 80's .... 14 in 1980, but culturally 80's lasted from cca, 1977 til 1992 ... I wish your wish comes true, but unfortunatelly it takes much much more in terms of circumstances for such miraculous decade to be spawned: Disco, ABBAesque europop and american soul of the 70's gave it the sense of rythm and melodiousness, punk gave it revolution and created an atmosphere of new generation (new wave), early electronic music and Kraftwerk gave it one of the two essential 80's instruments (synthisizers & sax) and of course an amazing sound of the future and heartwarming dystopia. The next thing happens and suddenly you'r in the middle of genrewise most diverse, opulent, bautiful decade ever.

@Epic-Gamer I wish I could give this comment infinite likes. You speak the truth, unfortunately. Music is now a business. Radio and music on TV is irrelevant as you said. Success today is measured in the ability for someone to act as a cash cow and have their music manufactured like plastic in order to sell like crazy rather than relying on building themselves through dedication, talent or passion. Take a look at all these music talent shows like the X Factor and all that, it just shows how easy it is for some people to succeed. They win or do well in that show, they're propelled to stardom in less than a year. The saving grace? Good music like this still exists out there because the likes of FM-84 and Ollie Wride still exist. People still make music because of their love for it, they can evoke emotions and break barriers. They don't get anywhere near the recognition that they deserve but they're out there and thankfully, they are.

i might be freaking out, but this song hits on me like it was literally my story with the girl i can call "my wife" today. we were teeneagers growing in the same town, building paths and standing together, but one day, she decides that her place wasn't there, she wanted to travel the world and change her life, but leaving me an open door to meet her plans. Then there was Me, a man that were rushing through a dream career and having everything planned inside the edge of my home country, suddenly decides to leave all behind and work hard on myself for a couple of months to reach her again. she kept what she promised and right now we are starting to live our dream life hand in hand in the other side of the world. By the time she left i listened to this song every day on my bike, riding through dark streets, trying to hold my tears and Facing the risk of abandoning everything I knew for love and a better life.

Cool car :) I wish I had driver's license in the 80's but didn't reach that age yet in the 80's. I'm happy though for being lucky enough to be a kid in the 80's, what a great decade to be a care free child listening synthpop music, watching cool movies and tv-shows, playing videogames, learn Basic programming and playing games with Commodore 64 and so on :) My parents had 1983 Mazda 323 in the 80's, very 80's car with tan interior & maroon exterior, loved that car. Got for my first car a 1982 Mazda 323 in 1992. 1980's was the best decade ever!

I remember this kind of music. From a time when boys and girls didn't have to be 'plugged in' 24/7 in order to be cool, or 'relevant' or 'influencing'. When a bright summer's day at the cabin and a glimpse of a cute neighbor led to all kinds of innocent (and may be not so innocent) adventures. Music from a time we could live our lives the way we wanted, without worrying about what our 'subscribers' and thousands of Facebook/Instagram/TilTok 'friends' thought about it. Music from when we could really live for ourselves and be free. Truly free. It was dangerous. It was unpredictable. It was thrilling. Couldn't Share it. Couldn't Download it. Couldn't Like or Dislike it. You could only Live It. In the moment. I remember a time, when we were all Running in the Night.

Honestly, if u didn't know any better, u'd think this was an authentc song from the 80's. Incredible song to say the least. God bless composers like FM-84 and many others who have resurrected the 80's sound. Synth wave is going to blow up once it gets the right media attention. All we need is a company like rockstar games to feature it in their next GTA game and I guarantee, it'll be the most played radio station by players. Especially if songs like this are on it. #synthrider till I die.

This song hits home on so many levels... It makes me appreciate life and see it's beauty despite the hardships, it makes me look around and appreciate the intricacies of every day life: the sun, the cold, the smells, the textures, the foods, the landscapes, the moonlight, the rain at midnight, etc. Life is indeed difficult, full of roadblocks, problems and such, but if we are able to feel and have all these emotions burst out from time to time even if it was for just a moment after hearing a song, then it's evidence that we are living thoughroughly. Let's all live to the maximum and appreciate everything and everyone around us. Take care ya'll.
