Flying To South Beach In A Private Plane! | Baker Family Adventure | Pilatus PC-12NG Flight Vlog
After a beautiful sunrise, we leave the cold of Goshen and head to South Florida for some warmer weather. I had room in the PC-12 to take the family along on this one, so we had a Miami adventure!

I’m 71 and I still remember the day we were on the beach in Gulfport Mississippi. I was 2 and mom and dad had their hands full with me running back into the water. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Having a child in the right seat kinda throws that "sterile cockpit" thing out the window doesn't it ;-) Glad you had a nice trip, and you can never get those little ones in the cockpit soon enough!! Mine are in their 30's now and they still talk about our adventures.. Have fun and keep the shiney side up !!! :-)

Recently discovered your videos and particularly liked this one, probably because of the personal element. I have a lasped PPL (cost) and have flown many times in the US (I live in the UK). Many years ago I diverted into Opa Locka as my then young daughter hated the turbulence in the rented C172. Though I work in aviation maintaining Boeings & Airbuses for a UK airline, my dream would be to buy a PC-12 with a windfall lottery win, (or even fly in one!). Your videos are probably the best out there at the moment, please dont change the format. Regards, Gary D

Hello Grant, what a great day to fly. Family, great tail wind, great ground speed and clear. I bet your kids enjoyed themselves immensely. Beach, snakes, alligators and air boat, glad y'all had a great time. Only thing I missed no flight stats. Oh, well next time great video Grant.

Awesome, Jake! Good luck with your training!
Nice greaser. Landing is one of my favorite parts of flying. It requires skillful airmanship to get it right. I’ve often thought it would be a great thing to be a Navy pilot and land on aircraft carriers. Taking off is easy but the landing is a challenge every time; especially at night or in heavy seas or in limited visibility. I understand that the new planes have electronic systems that can hook the wire even in zero visibility and heavy seas. Sweet! I’ve been watching PC-12s and TBMs. I like the PC-12 but recently saw a video about the PC-12 that disturbed me. It has a factory standard yaw damper and stick pusher (good) to prevent stalls because it has a NASTY, dangerous stall response (not good). One of my scariest experiences was an unexpected spin caused by a stall. Fortunately, I was a student pilot in a Cessna 152, which has excellent spin recovery characteristics. Nevertheless, it permanently imprinted my brain with the potential danger in spins and their associated stall characteristics. Are you aware of this problem? If so, what are your thoughts on this topic?
@GrantBaker
Жыл бұрын
Yes, the shaker/pusher system is important for helping to prevent inadvertent stalls. I’ve never done a full stall, just recoveries at the shaker or pusher. I’ve seen those videos though, and that is definitely something to be aware of. In the words of aerobatic champion Rob Holland: “Fly good, don’t suck!” The best thing to make sure that’s happening is regular recurrent training.
Cool last name. Cool video too.

Hi Grant. Any chance you can mount a camera farther out onto the wing? Pointed toward your airplane. Thank you for the great vids. Love the time-lapse segments.
@GrantBaker
Жыл бұрын
I think a 360 cam under the wing would be awesome! But I’d probably only be able to get the takeoff. The batteries won’t last long at the temps at altitude.

@@GrantBaker a 360⁰ would be very cool. Maybe another brand of camera for that task instead of Go-Pro? In any event, I appreciate your videos a lot. Thanks Grant.
@GrantBaker
Жыл бұрын
Yeah insta360 seems to be the best for 360° cameras. There’s still the issue of battery life and extreme cold temps exposed out on the wing.
Just not enough like buttons for this video!
Another great one. Totally enjoyed it. One question out of curiosity, why do you almost always pickup your IFR on the ground, even when the weather is great? Southbend ATC doesn’t take airborne IFR pickups? Or personal preference?
@GrantBaker
2 жыл бұрын
Personal preference mainly. Most of my flights are eastbound or southbound departures and Goshen is in the southeast corner of SBN airspace. Getting airborne pickups isn’t ideal since they would have to process that request, and then almost immediately switch me to a different controller.

Can you say what it costs all in all over those years to run a PC-12?

No, I’m not going to get into finances here.
Grant once you have touched down. I have heard you say that you use beta more than the toe breaker. Is beta the first detent on the throttle when you retard in reverse
@GrantBaker
Ай бұрын
Beta is between normal and reverse pitch. So when you pull the power lever over the stop, the first bit of movement toward reverse is beta. There’s not another detent for it, just the one normal idle stop.
