Prior to WWII the military had established some common conventions for radio communications. Radios were relatively new in the 20's and 30's. Military used words to convey longer sentences thus keeping radio frequencies open to the maximum extent. For example, Roger was used as a reply, meaning "Received Order Given, Expect Results". Wilco meant "Will Comply". The word niner was adopted for the number nine during WWII, so as not to be confused with the German word nein, or no. Many private aircraft had no radios or used a Morse Code transmitter to small tower-controlled fields. Light signals were also used, and still used as an emergency means to communicate today (although, how many pilots have a red, green, and clear lense signal light readily available in their flight case?). Commercial airlines were a mixed bag of communications, with each airline setting the communication standards with their own pilots. After WWII, and foreseeing a rise in General Aviation, the US Civil Aeronautics Board, NATO and the International Civil Aviation Organization got together to set world-wide standards for fast and clear radio communication. Like spelling out numbers, for example, my tail number: Cessna three zero three zero eight, became standard practice. Military still has some unique communication practices; but today, military, commercial, and General Aviation all subscribe to the same basic standards. The diverse word salad was cleaned up and standardized. For example: in the NATO phonetic alphabet, the word for R is now Romeo; replacing Roger that had previously been used by commercial airlines.

P4TC is in the house!!!
great shot of Dulles! and lol, RH from OB.
Car salesman: this car costs $16,000. Pilot: that's a little steep, I can do 'one-five thousand'. Thanks for bringing us along, Grant. Always enjoy your content.

😂 confusion for the win!
Phraseology is done in a manner so that it removes the question of “ did they just say?” In EU we don’t say 13 thousand though it’s FL once through the transition and 6,7,8,9 thousand. We also say decimal when saying frequency calls.
Very nice 😊
Thanks Grant! Bringing your A game as usual!😎
Another great video Grant. Enjoyed it.

@@GrantBaker Definitely! I started at the new flight school, so hope the weather holds so I can finish ASAP
Thanks for sharing your great piloting skills and beautiful aircraft. Hope Lancaster treated you okay. Shortly after takeoff from LNS you flew over our house before crossing the Susquehanna River. Nice flight and camera perspectives. .

Nice work grant, enjoy the content like always. I will hopefully be flying a NGX by the end of next year, any tips on how to best learn the plane? Thanks

Awesome Hunter! I haven’t flown an NGX, but I think this NG advice should mostly apply. Depending on what you’re used to flying, things might happen quite a bit faster (mainly in the descent into the airport). The Honeywell system takes a bit getting used to. It’s a lot different than Garmin, but isn’t bad once you get used to it. The plane handles great! Legacies are heavy on roll, but the NG is really nice. I’m planning to do some simple short “How To” videos (how to use doors, cargo net, check/add oil, etc) soon that will hopefully be helpful for aircraft familiarization. And here’s a link to the NGX POH: www.pilatus-aircraft.com/data/tech_pub/61e9558d4baf0105246603.pdf
Ha. Looks like you talked to RH at Greensboro.

Yeah I was trying to decide if that was him or not. Should’ve gone ahead and said hi on frequency I guess!
Grant I would have been ready to ride along with you on your way through and pick me up
hi GRANT, hope you are good .thanks for the nice and realistic video's have tbm 850 and because the area that I am leaving I need more range aircraft.please let me know the real range with no wind with safe reserve if you can.

Pilatus claims 1,800nm at long range cruise with a 100nm alternate. I’d say 1,500-1,600nm is more realistic. The longest I’ve taken it is back to Indiana from Phoenix which is almost about 1,340nm. I’ve got videos here on the channel of a couple of those flights with the times and fuel stats that you can check out.
