I was researching this route and came across your video. It's great to see a fellow Malaysian sharing this experience. The only two reasons to fly Lufthansa First Class nowadays are the ground service at FRA and the 747. After watching your video, I'm going to book tickets for my parents. The 747 is an icon of their generation, and I want them to experience flying in style one more time before it gets relegated to the scrapyard.

Under ordinary conditions (i.e., before the invasion of Ukraine, when Russia could be overflown), Lufthansa's longest flight used to be from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires (Argentina), some 13-14 hours (depending on the winds), also on the 747-8. When overflying Russia, Tokyo-Frankfurt is shorter.

Really nice review. I certainly appreciate your comment that the First Class seats lack privacy compared to suites found in Emirates and others. My only counterpoint (strictly from an Avgeek's point of view) is that with only a few 747s left flying, this is the last chance to have an unobstructed view of the unique tapering nose of the plane. Also, I believe the new LH First Suites will only be installed in newly purchased A350s.

Typical outdated LH interior. LONG way to go in that category and they know it. I think you're right about that the new F suites are only for the new deliveries of the 350 and 777-9. They probably won't appear on the 747-8 and we shall see about the new business class. The new F seats wouldn't fist in that space anyway at the nose.

@@johniii8147 They mentioned retrofit will only start in 2025. Given the snail pace they're revamping their stuff at (remember the new paint which took ages), I doubt we'll ever see new F on the 748 indeed.

That was the front landing gear going up. The nose is so quiet that you can hear really everything 😅. But once on the air, is one of the best ways to travel around the world. Excellent video!

You can see the Northern Lights tonight in Yellowstone and North Dakota. They are showing them on the Weather Channel. August 24. It's amazing.

As Lufthansa is our top carrier and represents Germany worldwide i want to see the standard of first class on the 747-8. I saw recently that you pay 9000,- € from Frankfurt to Haneda and back. That is a lot of money. Wow...... What i see doesn't disapoint me. Ok the TV screen is not the newest anymore but the rest was nice. Be glad you didn't travel with Qatar in their claustrophobic Q Suites. This first class is quiet good. Accepted.

This was a great review and truthful. I can understand lack of privacy. The Purcer and Cabin crew did an excellent job and are a fitting high standard for Lufthansa.

flew with the 747-400 LH492 to vancouver (which was the last flight with the queen that day - now they use the dreamliner) in business class. This plane really is beautiful and it was my best flight ever. Might fly with my mum on a 747-8 Lufthansa 🥹 looking forward to that!!

I still prefer the Upper Deck First on the 744 which I took same route but through Narita. I'm too used to the BA First nose which I found too cramped. I wonder if the 748 makes the same nose wheel noises taking off - cuts my heart each time 😂 PS There never was caviar served in a can on any of the Lufthansa First flights I made, especially the Sub Sahara and Transatlantic routes. Everything served in portions on tray service over 15 years ago. Some things never change

Great video, thank you very much! I am planning to take this trip in February 2024 and i wonder what the best seat would be for a single traveller? In row 3 you do have neighbours. 1A and K are fairly close. So would be 2A or 2K the best compromise, giving you most privacy??

Allow me to help. I've been on both 2A and 2K and i prefer 2K, although the differences are minimal. It really depends on which view you prefer out of your window as you take off, land and also in the air while flying over certain parts. Also, unless you are an enthusiast for this aircraft, it's really poor value for money as far as 1st class is concerned. The lack of any sort of privacy is the least of your concerns, given the amount of money you shell out for the ticket.

Did you book your swiss flight on the same PNR? I am arriving in Frankfurt on a first class flight and hoping to experience FCT but it's currently just a direct flight to FRA. I am wondering if it's worth it to book a connecting flight and adjust our trip around to experience this.

Ey come on. AA is not top notch but it's not so bad as you make it. American crews are always friendly and their seats and food is pretty ok. My friend even got a cup filled with Dom Perignan Champagne. Is that nothing ?

yes, I flown with their first class and there will be 2 people holding up :First class lounge. U show them the boarding pass and they escort u to the first class terminal while also letting u skip and cut lines lmao

So you can use the first class terminal even if you're flying within Schengen?

It's not their longest route on the 747-8. That's actually San Paulo Brazil. But nice review.

I believe Buenos Aires (EZE) was Lufthansa's longest route on B747-8 but due to current Russian airspace restrictions, flights from East Asia to Europe would be going along the longer Polar route. Till the restrictions clear, Tokyo-Frankfurt is Lufthansa's longest 😀

For most airlines it absolutely is. I feel claustrophobic in suites. Plus, nobody can call the Emirates suite well designed.

Very rubbish first class. Totally zero privacy

The sounds you were wondering about are, first, the nosewheel spinning after liftoff/rotation, second, the nosewheel compartment doors closing....

not mandatory since October 2022, but I think a lot of asian people wear it always in crowdy conditions
