Been a flight attendant for 35 years & Children often fly alone, unaccompanied….so if the parents are actually onboard I don’t see a problem as a 10 year old most likely will be engaged in movies, video games or asleep. The parents can check on the child throughout the flight & vice versa the child can check on the parents 😂…. Let them enjoy the experience ❤

Sherri's rhapsodic description of first class is everything! Honestly, a lot of this depends on the maturity of the kid. My parents left me home alone at a pretty young age as I had shown that I could happily entertain myself while not burning the place down. Of course, being an only child helped. My mother always said she wouldn't have left 2 or more kids on their own because they'd cook up too many crazy ideas.

Unless their child has special needs or is a problem child, I don't see what the parents did wrong. Children younger than that are allowed to fly unaccompanied all the time. They're actually on the plane if their child needs something. Until my children hit 15yrs old, I was part helicopter mom. So, I wouldn't have left them for an upgrade. But, I had NO judgment for anyone who would.

I get the joy of the upgrade ( You can use that upgrade later), but now you are sticking a stranger with your child. My sister and I have traveled by ourselves for the longest I think my sister was 12 and I was 9, but we were raised well and were taught that you read, you nap, you stay quiet on the plane, and don't forget your manners. We were Latch Key kids. I've flown first class it's nice, but I'm just that person that if they can't upgrade my child then I'm sticking with my child, but sometimes you can pay a small fee for a last minute upgrade. I once only paid a last minute $100 for an upgrade from South Korea to the United States. There is a plane that has a shower in first class. I think it's Emirates that has that.

This was not “once in a lifetime for them.” To each their own but honestly, with all the chaos that’s been erupting on flights, I would not leave my child in coach. When children fly alone, they’re usually close to the front and flight attendants check on them. This situation was very different. Not for me and my child.

If the kid don't know its own mind, yeah sadly still on the clock, need to stick with the kiddo. Older kiddo? I am checking on them from the front. My folks did this to us but I was 14 and the sib was 16 we were fine.

@@mec4760 True and 10 yrs is fine I think. Since some of us have travelled alone in the care of air hostesses as kids. So I was fine with them so my kids should be fine if I am a stone's throw away.

If they upgraded the parents to first class wouldn't that give the kid his own row to occupy all by himself? I think he benefited as well!

It is annoying though to have kids in First Class/Business Class kicking your seat when you are traveling and the parents are with them in First Class / Business Class and not do anything after it has been brought to their attention, just as bad.

I would leave my child. He's 10 years old . Some children travel alone , and the airlines stewart just keep up with your children.

10 is perfectly fine to me if you know your child & how they act in public🤷🏽‍♀️there are some children that act more mature. he probably got his headphones in, snacks, watching movies or playing games. Everyone is literally just sitting there lol it’s not like they left their child in Disney world to walk around alone. Some of y’all live in fear

These parents are taking a family trip with their son. The son they could've left home. The son that they take good care of. The son they bend over backwards for all the time. Yet they do one thing for themselves and their bad parents? Really? 🤔 Chile haters gonna hate.🤪
