Fly Tying: Simple, Highly Effective Baitfish Imitation: The Gardy Loo Streamer
Спорт
This simple, highly effective baitfish pattern was developed for a friend of mine who was looking for streamer to imitate a baitfish called silversides. The dominant feature of most baitfish (fathead minnows, shiners, creek chubs, etc.) is a pronounced lateral line. So I took a standard clouser fly, articulated it and developed a way to maintain a lateral line down the entire side of the fly. After tying and fishing it, I realized this fly was suggestive in nature and would catch anything that swims from tuna, stripers, trout, to bass... really anything. In this video, I'll teach you how to tie the fly, create the lateral line and blend materials to imitate any baitfish. From a conservation perspective, feel free to cut off the bend of the back hook to eliminate the risk of deep hook sets. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or a beer and enjoy, I hope this helps you out!

Thanks man, just happy to share. Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow just wow! This one, if sold to the public would, without question be a TOP SELLING fly. I wish I tied, so I could use one. It would probably be the one I grabbed 90% of the time

Awesome! Thank you!
If you save those flash trimmings you would coffee grind them into home made dubbing to add some flash in your dubbing! Waste not, want not! Nice minnow!

Yeah! 100% agree!
I would also add a thin layer of clear glue under the lateral flash wound on the shank to make it bullet proof!

Yes or UV resin!
I've GOT to get those dubbing loop clamps. I have some petijean style clips for small stuff, and use medical Carmalt hemos for bigger stuff (which is not perfect because the jaws are textured) I'm not really a pattern tyer, but I have incorporated a few of your themes into my tying already. Gooood stuff.

Matt, yes! Those loon D loop tweezers are killer. So glad I'm helping you out, that's my simple goal.
I love this video. I also have the same vice and trying to figure out where you got the vice handle that fits 10/32 screw. Please help

@@TroutTornado I have some black stuff I got from walmart...its hard to use because its so slick and seems to more easily roll stuff around the hook shank. I'll have to give it another try when I am allowed to leave the little box I'm selling chunks of my life to sit in for 8-10 hours a day =)
Hi, John again...one more question...what is the size on the lateral scale? Not he last..do you tie at any of the fly shows..just want to say thanks...for your effort to help us....
@TroutTornado

This is the salt water size… but you can do it with the smaller size too!
Do you buy a longer style laser dub? Seems all my dubbing is much shorter than what you have here.
@TroutTornado

I've noticed that laser dub has been getting shorter and shorter. If you can't find any with decent length you can also use fly tyers dungeon BGD-AW... Buy the same colors and you'll be happy!
Gardy loo? Where they heck did you get that name? It's the phrase used for Tudor chamber pots...

@@TroutTornado If I remember correctly, it's a mispronunciation of "guardez l'eau," or "watch out for the water." Some "water." ;) Nice little fly, though.
awsome tying skills only one question why did you waste so musch dubbing into the garbage you could so use it in other flys

@@TroutTornado no problem my friend just trying to save you some money since the cost of living these days is now ridiculous. i know more trips to the fly shop with the cost of gas hurts the wallet. keep tying those amazing patterns my friend loved it.
Can I just buy some of these from you lol

dam computer...it cut me off..Why are the eyes on the gap side of the hoiok? Don't you want the gap up and not down?...It will hammer the fish either way....but which is the better option..This is from John not Claudia...she stepped one of my flies when I dropped it on our carpet....

John... where the weight is determines how the hook will ride, up or down. With the weight on the bottom the hooks will ride down. If you reversed it, the fly would ride hooks up. :)
