Fly Fishing the Watauga River in Tennessee

I go fly fishing on the Watauga River in eastern Tennessee in search of the storied monster brown trout that lurk in its waters.

This was Great !Hello my name is Shane. This was awesome coming from someone who is from East Tennessee. Not only that, from watauga road near the steam plant, you're right behind Superior wheels on Star Mill. Currently living near Tyler apartments and go camping at camp stonefly. Every other year that I can.. until I recently got brain cancer. Where can you go camping within the next 2 weeks. The bag up some Trout. 3/30/2024 Shane Nickles.

The fish saw you. You also need to run a longer tippet section on your leader on that flat water

Huh. Makes sense. Appreciate the tip. As I’m sure is pretty clear, I’m still learning 😆

I will say you are doing a good job mending. Something one has to remind beginners to do. When I moved to TN from Idaho, the Watauga was was one of the first rivers I fished. Put in at the cliffs and took out in Elizabethtown. Took a chunk out of a chine in some pretty fast, bony water.

Haha thanks Ze! I definitely forget to mend sometimes! The Watauga is such a fun river to fish. I think we floated that stretch back in December that you mentioned. Funnily enough, I just fished the Snake in Jackson and the Green River Lakes the last couple days. So fishy and such beautiful country!

Not interested in a 6 inch trout, I want a 55 lb striped bass. What's the best spot for one of them on the watauga river?
