I fish still water for 5-6 lb Browns and tigers but have more fun fishing a freestone stream or technical moving water for 8 " brookies. Size is inconsequential. That Grayling though was world class anywhere. Love to watch the Brits fish. They're very respectful of the fish and practice good CnR.

  • @DuncanPepper

That grayling would be considered a decent one in Scotland, but not world class. Otherwise I agree with you . Technical fishing on moving water is, for me, where it's at.

I used to fish the Tone many years ago: it does have some very good trout, and used to have a great head of grayling. As others have commented, the choice of backing track (doesn't qualify as music) is bizarre: totally inappropriate!

I've never heard of this river, christ it looks bloody great. I am going to fish the Lambourne in Berks, the Test and Itchen are too bloody expensive, rich mans or Americans with too much money. Can fish the lower Itchen in Winter for reasonable price. The Avon has loads of sea trout plus Salmon but it costs. Little streams in New Forest when in flood have good stuff running up them for free.

What's with all the industrial and robotic sounds? Is it a subliminal prophetic sound track about how our rivers, as they are going to be abstracted to extinction as the populations keep rising and the shareholders of water companies, fuel the continuing demise of our rivers. The crap sound track in my opinion is totally out of place in the natural environment. Even the Lechlade trout vids have crass synthesised monotonous music. What's wrong with the background noises of the birds instead. It does not make the videos hip or more appealing quite the opposite.

You shouldn't be handling the fish. Keep it in the water in the net. Get the end of your leader and look to see where the fly is and use forceps to get it out. All the time the fish remains in the water

You wet your hands to prevent thermal shock! Cold water, fish pulled out and handled with warm /hot hands. You scorch the fish or at least thermal shock it, the reverse effect of you jumping into ice cold water. Add that to those who rip the lips getting the hook out and they shouldnt be fishing! Respect your quarry.

That ' big ' grayling would be nothing on the Welsh Dee. Also the title saying big trout is laughable. They were all small. I fish a stream that size were there are trout up to about 3 pounds. Go fish the Usk and you'd be fainting if you think your trout are big fish. UK has some fabulous wild trout and grayling fishing, yet you put a video like this up!
