Fly Fishing for MUSKY (I DID IT!!!)
Been wanting to cross this one off the list for quite some time. Musky on the fly!!! Had a blast taking my Kayak into a backcountry Sunset Country Lake looking for the fish of 10,000 casts.

You took my moose nest joke!! Lol.
Love that lake. Thank you for keeping its name and location private 👍🏻
Moose nest… I love it. Poking fun at us oblivious Americans isn’t necessary! Keep it up!
Jay: Now that you got your fly rod, kayak, muskie film. Here's a challenge for you, film one of those moose laying an egg in a moose nest videos! I'd like to see that. :-) Congrats on getting your fly rod muskie.
Seriously one of the most fun videos I’ve ever seen. Watching those little muskies follow and then not eat. So frustrating but so worth it when it comes together
Hey I watched your vids for a long time and I just wanna tell you that your doing a great job. Don’t give up and keep slaying
That was so cool seeing those muskies play with your fly! Amazing video!
Good job Jay! Was fun to watch and got my blood pumping seeing them following your fly.
AWESOME VID JAY!!! (As always...) Tough work in a kayak with a fly rod and catching Muskies. Good for you!!! Good advice with the boat side tactics too. Anybody reading through the comments and considering to hire Darcy, he is one of the best guides in the Musky industry. I have had the Honor of sharing a boat with Darcy a couple of days each summer/fall for the last 6-7 years and he has taught me some things you don’t read or find anywhere out there about Musky fishing. He is on another level compared to some of the best Musky fisherman in the industry. Well worth every penny and then some. He will change the way you approach Musky fishing. CATCH THE BIG ONE Jay!
I just decided to take up fly fishing and only have a sit on top kayak to fish from. I love watching the older videos of you and Aaron fly fishing and I’d love to see some more, especially an instructional if you’d be up for such a thing. Awesome stuff Jay, hope to see more from the kayak, but whatever it is, I know I’ll love it! Hope you’re doing well up there in sunset country. Take care.
Awesome footage as always Jay, thanks for sharing....
Fantastic video. I took my son and wife out to LOTW for Muskie’s 2 weeks ago. First time for all of us. Saw 10 and my son caught 2. 39&44!! They are totally wired differently than Pike. What are crazy fish!!! Thanks for sharing sir!! 👊🏻
Moose Nest, that's funny we used to tell the Americans that 30 years ago and I was guiding. Nice musky
love the fly fishing content. I can't wait to get back up there
Yeah you definitely botched that hookset at 14:00 😂. All good though, it definitely happens. Love the moose nest joke too 😂
One of the cooler videos you’ve done. Great work man! And I don’t usually even care for fly stuff.
You set the bar pretty high and we're successful. Very impressed. In other news I had no idea there were so many experts out there when it comes to setting a fly on a musky.

Lol I got into fly fishing 3 years ago setting the hook with a fly rod was easily the thing people still criticize my hook sets
Looks like another banger can’t wait to watch when I’m off work
Love the vid! Haven’t watched in a long time due to this summer being strange and not being able to fish, but now I’ve made a deal with a guy and have started working on building up my diy fishing boat! It’s a 16ft Glastron fiberglass trihull that’s has a 50hp Evinrude outboard on it, I’ve already repainted it from the terrible blue it was to a tan/green, plan on using as a duck boat also, now I just need to do some engine work, some fiberglass repair, and then I’m going to build an awesome casting deck with storage!
Great video again. Catching a musky is on my bucket list. From the state with 10,000 lakes. So should be able to.
Great video man, looks challenging but rewarding at the same time!
You guys are spoiled with the fisheries up there!!! Lucky duck!! Also another great video!
Videos never fail to impress me w the high quality
Awesome video jay! keep up the content!
The trout set on those muskie you missed..... *facepalm* Keep it up!
Amazing stuff Jay!

I got my first Tiger muskie on fly last summer 30 inches 15 pounds. Absolute blast on an 8 WT lol.
Jay, well done on the video. I like your style....Especially not coming off as a know-it-all being as it's your first couple (on the fly). All I have are tigers where I'm at, but watching you blow those eats boatside gave me a good laugh because I still do that all the time after countless fish. again, nice work!
Hey jay, I do a ton of pike fly fishing and just wanted to let you know to try and do a combo of a strip-set and your normal set. You get a much better hookup ratio and drive the hook home a lot harder
Clayton is calling you out brother!! Biggest 4 pike on the fly rod in 8 hrs. I can't be the only one who wants to see this happen.
Never fished for musky but it looks tricky especially on the fly. Great accomplishment!
Polarizer on the go pro!! Yessss. Do it. Please....always love your videos. Keep it up and maybe get Sam in a kayak for musky?
Thank you for this video!!! Love the experiment.
Thanks Very Much For All Your Videos
Nice Job Jay!!
That was awesome footage and congrats on your first muskie on the fly but I did actually yell at you a both times you missed those muskie at the side of your kayak, haha.
Loved the Video Jay! I am going to go and buy some lures and am wondering if you have any suggestions for some lures I should check out. I enjoy casting in lakes near Kenora and catch smallmouth, pike, and walleye mostly. Just wanted some info from a pro!
Great content as always, good sir!
Almost first!!!
totally awesome Jay... loved the video
love the vids, jay. def a reason i'm trying to plan a trip to kenora next year - covid permitting. better hire darcy now lol.
amazing footage jay totally enjoyed watching …

Great stuff!!
Great job. Flyfishing for Muskie from a kayak has to be very difficult. I flyfish for them from my Jon boat and that is tough enough. I have been chasing them with a flyrod for about 40 years and my two tips to you are :very sharp hooks and a good wire leader. I use Tyger wire,30lb test on a 9 to 11 wt flyrod.I use streamers, but really have good luck with a big Dahlberg divers and saltwater poppers. Muskies take lots of frogs and small animals. Thanks for posting.
Congrats, Jay! Proud of you haha
My wife said' can't be mad at you Jay you got great video of those muskie. We both love u r vids man.
Dude just found your channel this was epic man!!!
Here In West Burbs Of Chicago And Really Like All Your Videos
Another awesome video!
Congratulations!
Very nice footage. Awesome amount of action and would love to try this myself. I have a lot of experience with pike and know there are days they are difficult to catch. Sometimes they just follow. A lot of variation in the retrieve is key at those moments. So I wonder if you would get more bites when there is more variation in the retrieve. Rolly Polly and very long pauses. We often fish with bigger flies. Very interesting and a fish which is still on my bucket list. Thanks for the great footage
Strip setting will help you connect more for some reason muskies and northern don’t get hooked too well on the trout set style hook set. If you strip into them you connect quite a bit more. Works for me at least.
The musky/kayak/fly combo is cool but holy crap! I can add the pro-nav to an existing powerdrive motor and get a spot lock! THAT is what got me excited.
I'm now bin watching all your videos and I'm pumped about this one that's awesome fly fishing for pike is my favorite but man for muskey that's just a pipe dream LoL love your videos next time you're in Alberta let's go fishing LoL

Jay: theirs two! Theirs two muskies down there. Me: Jay your joking Jay: I’m not even joking.
Darcy must be hanging out with a well known Green Bay guide by the looks of his fish pics. Wide angle, straight armed and fingers hidden pics have become the norm and its looks nice but it's super misleading lol Dude that was an awesome eat! Keep kicking ass man your videos are consistently awesome to watch and there's no BS! Good job dude

Awsome video I have tried to catch northern on flies many times with no luck
Bro I'm watching this video and I'm saying Eat it!! Eat it!!! Eat it!!! Everything time you had a follow. Then when you hooked up I was legit fist pumping 🤣 I got my first Tiger muskie on fly last summer in the Tioga river in upstate NY. My number one bucket list fish on fly and I did it in 6 casts 200 yards from my cousins house on a Gunnar Brammer super jerk I tied in a shad pattern. 15 year journey for a musky on fly was finally over. Now I need a Pike on fly lol.
Nice video. Kinda funny, I was gonna suggest you start your figure 8 closer to the kayak in order to keep your circles bigger then you mentioned it. I guess it's harder to do in a kayak!
That head cam footage was bad ass!
Yes new video
Awesome to see your yak setup. A little tip for next time... speed up that circle (figure 8). Those fish wanna be turned on. Don't pause it. Rip it away from them. You'll see improved results! Great video!

Reading the mood of the fish is definitely the key to musky fishing
Amazing and so is your wife Jay keep up the great work
uploaded 10sec ago already liked before watching lol!
My friend marlon price dose this , it's one of his specialties , its can be a crazy thrill !!
That was gnarly! I’m not even joking!
Dude epic head cam angle.
That lake is the lake where I caught my ,biggest and all of my muskies thank you for keeping it private but now I'm spoiled for muskies fishing lol. My muskie fishing goals are to catch one on lotw and join club 50. Also great vid as always jay! Can't wait to see the kwo vid!

Nice work Jay! #itonlycountsonfly ;-) some of your 8s are super tight and I think that’s why they’re flaring away. I made the same mistake on my only two good follows this year :-/
i've been fishing the same spot on a 85km2 lake for 14 years at my cottage i need help finding new spots. could be a cool series!!!
dang really nice video keep it up
On the Whistler!? The fly fishing industry has fooled me into thinking the fly needs 2 hooks and 2 shanks and half a bucktail tied on. That's numbing. Haha. Muskies! I was about to yell with a couple of those sharp turns on the 8. But look who caught a musky!
🔥
Hell ya jay your the man!
130lb is hardcore. I fish Georgian Bay esox and find 50lb flourocarbon suitable as long as it's a fresh leader, no nicks or serious kinks. Even 40 inch fish don't break it in the course of one fight. How might i benefit from a 100 plus pound leader? Is it durability? My biggest pike, and some decent musky, were taken with 17, 20, and 25 pound, tied fluorocarbon leaders with snaps and no swivel. Braid to fluorocarbon, except for the odd time when i want my mono to fluorocarbon for some stretch. What do you think, Jay? Thanks for all the videos!
Great video!! Congrats on your first Fly Muskie !!!
wooo!!!
Do you have one battery to power your motor and electronics?
I’ve been hunting Musky w/ a fly rod this year... what does your arsenal of flies look like?
Jay what net were you using there?
Haha moose nests 😂
That’s my dream lake
Yippee!!!!!
As a wise man from uncut angling once said. SIIICK!
So if You hook into a 50 inch musky while you’re on a kayak who caught who?😂

Love this one. Don't trout set! Haha
What wt rod are you using? Looks like a 10
Hello from Thailand.
just one little tip. dont bring the leader all the way up to the rod tip. when you do that you dont allow yourself any line to strip set. that is why you missed those two fish boatside. other then that good video!
Man, you make it look easy! Lol

Was the kayak as unsteady as it looks, or was the original camera placement making it look worse than it was.
The amount of work going into musky on the fly is unimaginable. Good job Jay!!
What's the make / model of the kayak?
If you ever get a chance come down here to lake Geneva with me and we’ll do some musky/walleye/trout fishing ( we have the state record for inland brown trout in Wisconsin)
