Fly Fishing for BIG BLUEGILL! (Panfish on the Fly Rod)

Ойын-сауық

Fly fishing can be one of the best techniques for bluegill fishing, especially in the colder months, and early spring when the water is cold and fish are lethargic! Often times they want to eat smaller lures, and flies work well in their place! I caught a bunch of panfish, including crappie, bluegill, and golden shiners (if you consider this panfish lol). Had a blast, and will be doing more fly fishing episodes if you all want to see more! New? I do enjoy pond and stream fishing on fly rod. At 70 my body just doesn't enjoy fishing from a boat on a large lake anymore. But ponds, streams, and small rivers are ideal. In younger days I waded a lot streams but my balance is not the best anymore. So bank fishing is my calling now. I enjoyed watching you. I've seen other of your videos too. I like Bluegill fishing as well but am happy catching any fish. You stay at it and good luck!

My fvorite way to fish for bluegill; when I was stationed at th Navy training command at Dam Neck VA there was a pond i often hit on my way home from work that always produced a mess for dinner.

I like the high-vis flyline, too. If you can't see your fly, at least you can see your line jump when you get a hit. I don't have "trout streams" in my area, so I mostly fly fish for panfish. (Bluegill, crappie, and sometimes small bass, too.) I also like to tie my own flies. NOTHING is more fun than catching fish on flies you tie yourself! Another great advantage of panfish is that they aren't shy amd picky! If you get the fly in front of them, they will hit it!

Try setting the hook by pulling the line instead of lifting up on the rod. The way the hook is orientated on the fly, lifting up tends to put the hook at an angle that wont hook into the fishes mouth before it comes all the way out.
