Fly Fishing- Deadly Fly Pattern and Method to catch All Trout. See it in the Water.

A pattern we have work on for a long time. In and out of the water. In and out of the vice. This video is the first time it has actually fished. We will find out a lot more about this pattern during this session. But over the next month or two we will continue to tweak if its required. But you will see what we do, and why.

    At this moment the boys and I are at Garnffrwd. Its our annual one week stay on the water. Just told them off your success with the hays black and blue. To be honest they were not surprised. On the water today it was so difficult. Apart from me our Steve was the only one to get a fish to the net. By far the best pattern was the Hays Black and Blue. I have done an olive, but not fished it much. Like you I will do a few more. Great to hear from you Drew. Take care mate. Shaun.

    You're the first person I've heard comment on this issue. Exactly the same applies to colour. Underwater, a fly appears as tied. Its only when you remove it from the water, and look at it with light passing through different mediums and materials, with refraction occurring, that it appears darker, or shows the underbody. I think that a lot of otherwise very astute flyfishers have fallen for this because they have never looked at a fly underwater.

    So sorry Mark I have missed you out. Hope you don't mind a late reply. I have been aware of this for years. It was obviously some body telling me. So long ago when I was a kid. But have never forgotten. With all the benefits of tec you would think they would get it. Makes me think what do they really understand, and how do they keep coming up with patterns. I do understand its more about how they want the fly to look rather than how it works. Looks seem to sell. Most of my time is working on flies. Some times we come up with something consistent. At the moment we are working on three patterns. An Unweighted Damsel, Small olive Nymph and a CDC Dry. The latest video shows me trying the Damsel for the first time. Thanks for your comment. And again really sorry for missing your comment. Shaun.

    Honestly mate it takes me long enough to edit, but I am so happy to hear those two words. Picture and sound. Every body watches on different systems, so it can be tricky. My sound comes through a Bose system. So I am aware that not every body can get some of the sounds that I get. The fly is working wonders. Nearly four weeks since last stock now. And a lot of patterns are failing. But this pattern has had fish every trip. Today was very difficult, But it got two fish. I had to switch to my nymphs to get me another 6 fish. Take care Stevie mate. Shaun.

But having the underwater camera is a game changer altogether. I can now view on the screen, slow it down and freeze frame. This helps so much. I can add lead or reduce led. What blows me away Jonathan, is the amount of people that thought this was so. But this is not the worst I have heard. A really big US channel posted a video about 7 months ago on sinking lines. Hear this. They told every body you can stop a sinking line sinking by a retrieve. The faster the sink the faster the retrieve. I was blown away with this. They demonstrated with a few of the lines I have. But who the hell could see the line. Nobody. I did comment saying that I think I have a duff line as it wont stop sinking. It slows slightly, but I can not stop it. They told me if I have a problem I should ring the shop. Get this, the comment section was mainly. I got ta get me one of those there lines. Oh and my voice carries. My wife told me. Lots. Thanks and take care Jonathan. Shaun.

    Great video Shaun, especially the underwater footage of the fly. Just to be clear, the wetted fly out of the water collapses due to surface tension - these surface effects are eliminated once the fly is in the water and the fibres of the material are supported by their buoyancy. Now...for those of us who don't tie our own flies, where can you buy them? They look very effective.

Well it is not quite ready yet. There is going to be a few more tweaks with it. And it needs more time in the water, and in different waters. Once we have done this and it still fishes well. • @shaunfishes101

    @shaunfishes101

    Жыл бұрын

    No problem mate. But before we start, I would strongly recommend trying before buying. I purchased mind at Sport Fish, they have a casting pool. One reason for my purchase was to support a British company. Next I have fished all my life and never treated myself to a top end rod. Now I can afford to do so. Seeing these rods being reduced in price to make way for the new range does make me think about how much profit is really being made. But this is how things are, And I am not so bothered. At these prices I think its a good bye. So mine is the 9' 6# and there is not much I don't like about this rod. At first it was the hook keep at the handle. It does not have one. Got used to this now. Pros, quite a few. This is a powerful rod with a really nice action. Not fast more like medium fast. Its recovery is amazing. I can lift 50' of floating line from the water and have total control all the way through. Matt finish, so less glare. The handle for me is spot on. This will depend on the size of your hand and how you grip the rod. Mind in the past I have had handles that were to big, and after hours of use became uncomfortable. So I set about with a sandpaper. Oh recoil rings. Its more of a feature. As I have never had issues with rod eyes before. But please check it out first. And don't blame me if you do and you don't like. Take your time and get it right. Shaun.

    Yes I will be doing something soon Nigel. It is proving to be a good pattern, even for the resident fish. But I am looking forward to sharing this with every body. Mind we have a few really good patterns now. So once I sort the camera out, we will be doing a blast of flies.

    Nigel I have sorted a camera for tying. I hope to have first video very soon. I will start with the small lure as there is a small detail that I would like every body to see. There wont be many tying videos. It will be the most successful patterns we use. Not just any pattern for the purpose of a video. Sorry for the delay. Shaun.

    I have a tying video on here. Its not obvious as a tying video. It was last month. Would tag you, or what ever they do. Problem I have not much knowledge with computers. But if you are going to do this pattern, you really should watch this video and understand what I do to the lead to make this a great pattern. I am not sure how important the dressing is. But the lead is most important. We will be tying more patterns with the lead in the same way, as this has proven to be so successful. The thumb says Check this out. Sorry I can't be more help full. Shaun.

    This is awesome because i tie fly's professionally and i am always getting new materials in and coming up with new flys and how they flow in the water. Some of these new materials might look good on the vice but once they hit the water can be a entirely different look and movement.

    All my patterns are inspired by the water while I fish. I am constantly tweaking on the vice. Most are so simple but very effective. People are constantly asking for flies. This has taken me too looking for an outlet. I can not and will not start tying flies to sell. Have considered Fulling Mill. But its something that needs to be sorted. Nice to hear from you. Take care. Shaun.

    Good you put the underwater footage on here for people. but pretty obvious it will do this, whole reason to tie various patterns with materials that "come alive" in the water... I always check any new fly I buy or I tie, and see what the action of the materials looks like. Nice fly!

    Before I had the GoPro I used to use the bath, just to see how they moved in the water. And this goes back over 35 years. So I have a great grounding on material in water. And this in turn helps in my success with a high rate of successful patterns. But over the weeks ahead will be a great test for this pattern. As I target more resident fish. Thanks for the comment and support. Shaun.

    As you tie, I thought I would let you know that I have had problems with cameras when doing tying video. I have things sorted now, and will be doing first video very soon, and it will be the small lure. Not to be missed as I explain what makes this so different.
