Fly Fishing Bonanza on Killer Shrimp at Grafham Water

Спорт

Tackling one of the large midlands reservoirs can be a little intimidating so there is nothing better than getting an expert on board. It did not take much persuasion to get professional fly fishing guide Tim Joyce to come up to Grafham on his day off no less!
Tim agreed to show me some of his favourite marks and how to set up to take on the the trout now turning hard onto the shrimp to bulk up in time for winter coming. The banks were already busy and it was great to bump into Simon Lehane and Chris Bobby also looking to capitalise on the outstanding sport Grafham has to offer at this time of year.
I have to say I have fished all the Anglian Waters this year and despite the late start to the season they have done a phenomenal job. They have not only kept us safe with excellent procedures to comply with social distancing but the quality of fishing has been outstanding. If you have yet to visit one of these fisheries I would heartily recommend you do.

Thanks for watching Russell, I think it’s really important, I am on the river Test tomorrow and I dare say folks would be best pleased if it got into that system.

Another great trip for us to share with you Lindsay. Great tip re cleaning down the gear. It only takes a little while but can save other waters from becoming infested with undesirables.

I saw the Seagulls feeding, do they come in after the mass of shrimp? How did they get there? Throw in Tiger Trout. They are triploids and totally into invertebrates! They will eat shrimp and give you some big fish to boot. One lake I fished had floating islands that actually drifted with the wind. The trout hid under them and the islands provided cover just beyond casting range of the shore fishers. My fishing partner would hold up a four pound trout then release it. The bankers were telling at us and I reminded him we had to go ashore eventually, so he was a little less obvious, but not much. Whirling disease is another reason to wash and steralize your kit! Great video!

I’m getting fed up of these “Advert” type videos.. you want to know the truth from a local season ticket holder, none of us wade it’s unnecessary and DONT fish off those rocks unless you want a broken ankle or leg, many anglers have been badly injured falling on them.. look closely at the rocks in this video see how sharp they are, but these idiots ain’t going to mention that, there here to promote bank fishing for Anglian water. Just take a look yourself the banks are deserted it’s the same at Rutland too.. if you want to sit at home for 6 months with your leg in plaster instead of fishing then go for it.. I’ve fallen and broke rods as well.. it’s madness ! Take it from me it ain’t worth the risk just for a fish, I’ve fished both Grafam and Rutland from the start, and seen with my own eyes anglers leaving and never to return since the rocks were placed.. If Anglian water cared about us fishermen, then why didn’t they put some plain old gravel down in various places for us to fish from ? and they wonder why they don’t make money.. I know the rocks are necessary to stop bank erosion, but putting down some form of material would have made a difference for angling and Anglian water. ! They are trying there hardest to get anglers back to Grafam and Rutland, that’s why they promote videos like this, but they are just flogging a dead horse !!

Sorry your experience from the bank has not been good but please let me clarify one thing. I do not work for nor get paid a penny from anyone to make these videos, I do not exaggerate or lie in any of the videos I make. The rocks can be difficult to negotiate for sure but if you are careful it can be done. The day I filmed this the car park by Hill farm was full and there were plenty anglers on the bank doing rather well. If you have a grievance with AW then I think it's something that should be raised with them. If you do not feel safe from the bank I would suggest maybe sticking to boat fishing.

@@lindsayiflyfish Did I accuse you of making money... NO ! Did I accuse you of lying in this video or any other.... NO ! Did I ever accuse you of exaggerating in this video, or any other... NO ! Then why get on your high horse just because someone leaves a comment, this is what this column is for, if you can’t take a little criticism then my I suggest that you don’t upload videos on here.. simple ! In your video you failed to mention anything about the rocks, your comment above regarding the rocks is stupid, “difficult to negotiate.. but if your careful It can be done “ ? You can walk on ice if your careful, but sooner or later your going to fall ! Your aim was to paint a big rosy picture that everything is great, you need to Include everything.. the good and the bad. The problem here is, you are a foreigner that comes here just for a day now and again, and claim to know everything about these waters and just because your the man with a camera whatever you say goes ! Also, I don’t have a grievance with Anglian water, however many others besides myself, over the seasons have had discussions regarding the bank fishing problems.. just trying to do something is better than doing nothing, so it benefits all us anglers that fish it regularly, or for the visiting anglers like yourself ! As for the boat fishing, I don’t do any boat fishing full stop, even if I did it does nothing to help with the bank problem what so ever !

@@kingdom777866 Listen here Kingdom-6Numbers you fool of the seas. I have shat more esteemed comments than that one. Thrice, actually. I know you mentioned you don't boat fish, but they say that it's not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean. Unfortunately, you seem to have neither the size of the boat nor the motion of the ocean going for you.
