    Thank you for your comments. We appreciate everyone’s opinion on the subject of the “ideal” Betta aquarium. After thorough research and extensive consultation with species experts, biologists, breeders, specialty groups and advanced hobbyists, 2.6 US Gal. / 10 L was identified as an ideal “entry point” for captive-bred B. splendens. If you wish to provide your fish with more space, Fluval offers a wide range of larger desktop aquariums. We invite you to review our Betta care guide for more in-depth information: bit.ly/3Bab0Bb

    To the folks complaining about size…. The average consumer buys a beta from a cup, puts water in bowl and keeps it for less than a year before it dies. I applaud Fluval for creating a beautifully designed kit that will help Bettas live a better life. Having an ideal temperature, lighting and filtration is a huge help to achieving that. Well done Fluval - I’ll certainly be purchasing this convenient kit for my daughters room as soon as they’re available in Canada.

    Very cool! I've had many Fluval tanks, heaters, filters, etc.. This one looks just perfect for anyone who wants a betta. Simple and easy to use. HUGE filter that rarely needs cleaning as long as you don't overfeed. Really an awesome setup, especially with the low flow improvements. I'm sure I'll get one sometime down the line.

    I purchased this recently. I love it. I know its a little small to be 100% happy, but I LOVE the tank. I just cannot be happier. I wish to buy another tank soon. My betta is rather tiny and he loves it so much. I can tell by how much color he has just how healthy he has become. When I got him he was a regular sized betta all black, and now he is white/blue and black. All within a week of being in this new tank with a week cycling. Stop being so hard on Fluval, this is a much better tank then you think it is. A+ thank you fluval.

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Fluval! I’ve gone through several tanks over the years, trying to find the best fit for my bettas (that also fits my space). Many failed because the water flow was too strong (I always had to change the setting/make adjustments), and not many came with a heater for the appropriate space, etc… But this model is by far the best out there. Keeping them is a hobby of mine, like so many others, and these fish have been a great way to introduce new hobbyist into the amazing world of fish keeping. Having the tank set that comes with (a heater and a proper filter-which are both crucial for their survival/thriving, is a great way to inform them of the need for it. I hope the past lies that bettas will do fine staying in bowl (I know, sad, but we’ve come a long way in the hobby and now our bettas are thriving, not just surviving) will soon be a thing of the past. This is definitely a step in the right direction and away from the past. I’m currently switching all of my bettas tanks over to this brand. Thanks, again.

    I think this tank is best for male bettas, due to their long fins and their swimming problems. Short finned and female bettas should probably have a 5 gallon or so, but as long as you clean the tank and test the water, you shouldn’t have a problem.

He is now in a 6.6G... up from a 1.7G to a 5G to this 6.6G 12" Tall. I didn't like him in the smaller tanks. This 6.6G is a bow front which gives him a bit more width than the 5G.

    I like the design of the aquarium and the accessories that come with it. What I don't agree with is the rationale given for the small size (clean water). This clearly doesn't mimic the natural environment of Betta splendens. Their water is shallow, but with a lot of surface area. Based on my experience with a 20 gallon long, clean water is quite easy to achieve in a larger aquarium. For new fish hobbyists, a smaller tank might be easier to maintain, but only if they do the same kind of regular maintenance that more experienced hobbyists do (cycle aquarium initially, then regular water changes, clean substrate and clean filter media).

  • @RattyJennMunson

    I love the look of the tank. I have my male, long-finned betta, Renfield, in a 9 gal Flex. It's just about the perfect size for him. The only "modification" I made was baffling the flow by putting filter floss behind the Y connector water return. Just my opinion...I think anything under 5 gal is too small. Too hard to maintain water quality, especially for newbies, who don't understand the nitrogen cycle.

  • @michaelfox6820

    @michaelfox6820

    I made the same flow modification as you did in my Fluval Flex 15. The larger size makes it suitable to add some nano fish to the betta tank, though I think you could do the same with the 9 gallon version. Doing so of course depends on the disposition of the betta.

    As a long time fancy goldfish keeper, I've been researching bettas as an addition to my Goldie's. This tank seemed a bit small, but I liked that all the components were included and I trust Fluval's quality. I was suddenly thrust into Betta ownership this weekend when I won two in a raffle at an aquarium convention. 😳 My local fish shop gave me a great deal on two tanks, although fish-in cycling isn't the greatest thing to do. My question is about the diffusion chamber. On the one tank, water goes through it back into the tank, but on the other one some of the water goes over the top of the chamber instead of through it. I've tried adjusting the water level, but ended up diverting water over the whole tank so it was going on the floor. Any clues what may be happening? Other than that, George and Martha (they are red, white and blue) seem to be enjoying their new surroundings, are eating well and are curious already, so I think the tank size is fine. I share a very small apartment with my husband, so anything larger is out of the question for me.

    Hi there! We're thrilled to hear you've been satisfied with your Betta kits so far, and that your fish seem to enjoy them! With regards to your question about water coming out of the top of the diffusion chamber, first, verify that the diffusion chamber pad does not require rinsing or replacement. Next, verify that the diffusion chamber is fully seated in position, as water may spill out the top and back into the rear filtration compartment if it is not. If necessary, insert the tubing deeper onto the diffuser chamber neck to ensure the diffusion chamber is in the correct position.

    We just bought it and it is really well made. But I have a question on the water pump. The water pump flow is adjustable, what is the best setup. My Betta stays on the water intake and do not move from there often. Should I put the pump to the lower setting ?

  • @fluval

    @fluval

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you've just purchased your Betta, it will likely take it a couple of weeks to develop its muscles and get better at swimming. Once it does, you'll see it resting against the intake much less. We recommend setting the pump to the highest setting, as the diffusion chamber does a very efficient job of dispersing the flow!

    I have two of these and they are great for a solo special needs female betta but It's pretty well covered that a 5 Gallon would be better. Also with the heater I was getting 83-84 inside the tank itself which is too hot for a betta, 80 degrees is the right temp to keep them at, 82 if they are sick but even that for long term speeds up the metabolism and shortens their life. 83-84 even more so.

  • @leo2o915

    @leo2o915

    2 жыл бұрын

    I’ve heard and read people say keeping them around 82 is more ideal then 80 maybe wrong but I keep my alien betta at 82 to 83 and he is a happy dude will be getting one of these for my new betta though :)

  • @josephnoctum

    @josephnoctum

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@leo2o915 So you have to think about fish as a cold blooded species. Bettas can survive in 84 degree water and they can survive in 72 degree water. The standard is 78-80 being the ideal range for them. They can do great at 82 but the extra temp is speeding up their metabolism making them need more food, and shortening their lifespan. 82 is great for helping prevent certain parasitic diseases but over the long term it can cause a shorter life.

If you want to keep them at that temp and it works for you and your fish then go for it. There are just as many exceptions to the rules as there are rules. My main idea was for Fluval, that it would be better at the price point to have an adjustable heater than the one this comes with. I ended up replacing the heater with a compact adjustable one and both my female crowntails love these tanks. I even tried to move one to a 5 or 10 gallon and she was immediately stressed and wanted her smaller space to control her territory. Great tanks, just little tweeks would be great and I would still love to see a 5 gallon option with this filtration/flow dampening chamber included.

I am cleaning the pad every day. I have replaced the pad several times. Does not make a difference for me. Yes the diffusion chamber slow down the water flow for the Betta's but it also stop any water movement on the top of the water. Putting a air stone in the tank defeats the reason for the diffusion chamber so what do people do? I have several of these tanks and they are amazing. My betta's have never looked better but this diffusion chamber is a real problem when it comes to water movement on the service.

    Hi Chuck! It's normal for surface films to develop in the Fluval Betta Kit - as you correctly pointed out, the slower water flow is great for the fish, but also reduces surface agitation. We have a few suggestions: 1. Bettas don't generally mind if there's a surface film, so you don't actually need to worry about it too much. 2. Adding floating plants helps to prevent the formation of surface films. 3. Remember that surface films come from cooking, dust accumulation, oils on your skin, and fish food. Trying to reduce the introduction of these things (with the exception of fish food!) can help reduce the intensity of the surface film that develops. 4. Surface films can be manually removed with a fine fish net or a paper towel.

  • @redeye7959

    @redeye7959

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@fluval Thank you for your response. Please understand that I am not knocking your suggestions but there are those of us that do not care for that film on the top of our tanks even if the Betta's do not mind. If Fluval has put all this design work into this Betta tank you would have thought they would have addressed the problem. I am not a newbie to fish tanks. From my Discus to my Oscars, to my Betta's these Fluval Betta tanks are by far my most maintained tanks. You pointed out that the Betta's don't mind the film. Okay? Then you said floating plants. My tanks are all plated. The floating plants do nothing but move it around. They do not eliminate it. At least not in my case. Then the cooking, dust, oils on skin, and food. My fish room is down in my basement. All but the cooking are good point since the kitchen is upstairs but there is airborne from the stove. Anything is possible but I'm on the fence about the stove. I do not over feed my fish so that leaves dust and oils. Last the net and paper towels. I have done the net but not the paper towel. Maybe I was asking to change my stars. This is by far the best set up I have had for my Betta's to date. The slower moving waters are ideal for them. But this diffusion chamber was not one of Fluval's better idea for moving the water on the surface of the tank. Maybe Fluval did not find it a problem. Film on the top of there show room tanks. I think Fluval should have addressed the problem! I'm back to the drawing board. Thank you again for responding to my post.

    Great review, thanks. While I would love to purchase this tank, I'll have to pass on it. This tank needs to have a stronger base. Another thing is the light, no blue "night" option? This tank would be perfect for a desk tank setup. Hopefully Fluval is listening. Make the base stronger, add a blue night light and package this tank better. Many poor reviews.The SPEC series is a better option for about the same price.

I do love it but I have very limited space and if I had known about the Betta Kit I would have bought 2 or 3 of them and therefore would have given a good home to 2 or 3 bettas instead of one. I had to DIY the pump to reduce the flow by putting a small piece of sponge into the outlet nozzle. It works great and the tank looks really good. Always great products from Fluval.

    I'm not sure what "experts" you've been talking to, because this tank is in no way adequate for a Betta. In the wild, Bettas live in huge pools, which although shallow, are millions upon millions of gallons. 2.6 gallons is nothing like adequate, especially with a tank that is much taller than it is long, because Bettas require a large amount of surface area as air-breathing fish.

    I'd be willing to try it out. I have been very unhappy with my previous choices. Hopefully, your light cycle does not blast bright light when you turn it on. I hate that as much as it is unnatural. I am glad that you have considered a slower water flow. I hate that in my present and psst choices. At my old age, you would have though that someone would have thought this out better in the past. This present 6.6G kit is the pits and should not have been a starter kit of a Betta. Bright Lights and fast water flow... made no sense. Stuffing the water filter helped a bit, but in the end, I just turn off the water filter at feeding time. My Betta and I will be together 1 year in October. I got him for my 70th birthday last year. This is the 3rd tank now, and like the others... i am very dissatisfied. I use the 1.7G for a Quarantine/med tank and the 5G as a Quarantine Tank. Do you have one as big as this 6.6G. I have lots of plants and a rock cave/tunnel that he investigates. I'll save up my coupons and eventually get one.

Your SpecV is a much better option for a betta tank -you just need to add the heater and a sponge to make the flow slower. As a beginner, I would rather a company sell what is best for my fish because you don't always have help at the larger box stores and I would think that tank was great if there was a picture of a betta on it. It's extremely misleading. A beginner may not realize how hard it is to keep the water parameters at a good level in a small tank.

In larger tanks with more powerful filtration, the fish are often blown around by the current, and will seek to bite off their fins to reduce weight. The Betta aquarium kit is large enough to provide ample swimming space for a single Betta, yet small enough to feature suitably gentle filtration and adequate heat dispersion.
