Fluted plastic DIY folding kayak

Ойын-сауық

Not an Oru kayak but certainly cheaper! In this video I show the four prototypes I made to come up with an improved version of my one sheet (4ft x 8ft) foldable Kayak. Build plans for the Coro Kayak 2 are at elkinsdiy.com/product-categor...

a lot of small sail boats use dagger boards on both/either side, they may be more effective against wind than a rear skeg

Nice! My single occupant sailing camping boat design was delayed due to taxes going sideways and local regs... I’ll get it done one day! BTW... Watch out for the paddle leash in rougher water! It has your neck in mind as a target. Have a good one!!! 😎👍🤘

That is pretty neat. Many years ago, I remember seeing on the news, where people made a boat out of paper milk cartons. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers! ✌️

Looks good Paul, times like this makes you want to find 10 foot long sheets of Coroplast. I know it can be ordered but it's spendy... I should say you use to be able to order it! I was playing with the idea of a Coroplast catamaran.

Hi Paul, there's a clear specialty glue ,LePage is the brand name , for plastic, it works great on coroplast. I used some in my last kayak in a hole where water was seeping in

No fiberglass, no sanding, no paint, no chinking, no welding, just a folded sheet of fluted plastic and a few cable ties.

I'm thinking of making a boat for my local river. I wonder how well Coroplast would hold up against rocks, broken concrete and trees. Maybe I should try to make a sit-on-top kayak from PVC and pool noodles. I'll have to check the local regs, but they have a float-down every year here, and a recent attempt to require stickers for any flotation device was voted down, so maybe it's doable.

1967 iwas 7 my cousins lived on the s w side of Camano island they found a old tender washed up on the beach . Well we thought it would be a good idea to go for a boat ride . There was 10-12 kids the oldest was 10 . 4 of us rowed the rest bailed water. It had bad leaks. Anyway we were halfway to Japan ok maybe a couple hundred yards out I could still see the bottom . All of a sudden the bottom turned black. I could see some white then realized a killer whale was under the boat it was huge. I think we may of hit mach 12 rowing back to the beach. Smh that's what I was thinking about while you were rowing around in your yauht

Do you ever re-use your zipties? Clip them right where the tip goes in to the ratchet, or else slip a knife tip into the ratchet to release without cutting. Save you some money and time spent driving to the hardware store, as well as less plastic sent to try landfill.

  • @paulwelkinsdiy

I do, just what you've suggested. I have a ton of zip tie stubs. Sometimes I save just the heads for joining two flat panels together, like a nut and bolt. A paper clip also works for releasing the cam.

Hi Paul I'm finally getting around to making it , made a few changes, I'll send you an email once I'm done . Hopefully some videos in the near future too Edit : also Paul, I'm thinking of a front bulkhead as well , mainly to rest my feet against to get more torque when I'm paddling.
