I have been playing flute for almost 25 years and actually teach it now. One thing that will greatly help your technique is to work on your hand and wrist placement. Your left hand is too straight vertically which makes it harder to reach the keys. I tell my students to lay the flute in the palm of their hand and then pull their fingers down until they are touching the keys, but keep the same wrist position. Your left palm should be facing up towards your flute to allow for more fluid and quick finger movements. Also make sure your right thumb stays more between the first and 2nd fingers. I like to imagine that it is supporting the 1st trill key in order to determine where it should go. Those are just little changes you can make, but they will help you play much more technically proficient in no time.

I love your tone!! I play flute (started 6th) and piccolo (started freshman), and I'm entering my junior year too! It's crazy how much growth can happen over the course of just a few short years, and I'm truly excited for all the fun opportunities and solos and whatnot that are ahead of you. You picked a great instrument, so keep at it; you're slaying 💜

An Amazing progress for a self-taught flutist 👏. I've been playing flute for like 10 years but i didn't play for 3 so it's like 7. And you remind me i must wear earplugs but i just dont have any and it doesn't really bother me, I think my neighbors should be the ones wearing earplugs 😂. Keep practising!

Bro that WEEE on the conductor's arm at 2:17 made me choke on my drink lmfao. But that was amazing man, you're doing so good. I played a lot of different instruments in school. 3rd grade I did Recorder, 4th grade was Violin, 5th grade was Alto Sax, then 6th grade - Senior Year I played Tenor Sax. Then this past year for my first year at University, I did Tenor again for Marching Band and Baritone Sax for Concert Band my first semester. Second semester I did Tenor for both Concert and Pep Band. This coming Fall I'm gonna do Tenor again for Marching and then Bass Saxophone for Concert Band. (That thing is so expensive, I've been saving for months now to buy it.)

Hey really nice work! My main instrument is the bassoon and I actually made the California all state band on it, but I also play the flute at around your level so I am pretty knowledgeable. When I was at all state some of the things I noticed all these other flute players did was when they tounged, they kept on pushing air through they lungs. What I mean by that is whenever they tounge, the air never stops, it’s just the tounge that stops the air so when the release the tounge sounds immediately just jumps out. It may sound like super basic knowledge but I find that people often use too much energy when they tounge, so just try to be a can of compressed air I guess lol. Also try loosening up your embouchure a bit, don’t restrain the air, let it flow freely through your lips to the instrument. If your embouchure is too tight, it can make your sound feel a bit thin and you will be limited on how much control you have over your dynamics. Other than that, you have done some amazing work these past 4 years!

Hi! I’m mostly self taught, raised off of KZread. I still need a lot of improvement in my rhythm, but for me: sight reading with a metronome 100% helped. Understanding subdivisions, counting out loud, emphasizing downbeats and writing rhythms down on sheet music is also a great way to practice. There’s lots of videos on KZread that would help in understanding different time signatures and subdivisions! Good luck on your Saxophone playing!

Woah this is so cool. One question though do you play vibrato when you’re playing with the entire band or only when you have a solo?
@SydneyPlayzFlute
23 күн бұрын
Hi! I’m not an expert at flute playing but in general, I use vibrato in both full band playing and in solos. For full band playing, I use vibrato most of the time. It really depends on the piece of music being played and the stylization choice of the song. My band director always encouraged the flutes to vibrato when bringing out a melody or important part of the piece. However, it’s also important to be mindful when using vibrato since it can also become distracting when used in the wrong way or wrong time! Sorry I can’t give too much information since I am self taught student I found this discussion about vibrato and band directors if it helps www.8notes.com/f/25_179386.asp Sorry and hope this helps! 🙂👍
