Hey everyone! This video was a long time coming, and I want to thank you all for your patience. It's been a trying year, and I'm absolutely exhausted, but finding the time to make videos like this one is really healing to my soul. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed filming and editing it. :) Go check out FCNY! -Jo

Watching the flute doctor going through the procedures and explaining them is kinda therapeutic. Feels like a very cool occupation.
Many thanks for this video and to all who generously shared their expertise, too. The flute is a beautiful sounding instrument and this video had given me food for thought before seriously deciding to purchasing one, myself. Thanks again, Jo, have a nice day, keep well, safe and happy. 🎉😀💐🎶☘️❤️
This was wonderful and fascinating to watch. Thank you for making it! I hope life gets better by the day, and those trying, tiring times remain behind you. 💜

My Yamaha 385 is in for a coa right now. I'm almost lost without it so I'm watching flute videos to pass the week or so it's gone. Great video 😊
Great video, I now understand just how much work goes into a COA.
That was a fantastic video. Very informative, and Phil is so knowledgeable.
Amazing beyond words... But I just want to say I really love that little hammer.

Right?? So cute!
Was there a month ago, the staff was so nice and patient with me (I went through roughly 30 flutes) and finally walked out with a beautiful 10k Haynes. 😍

YESSSSS congrats!
This was really cool to watch. It explains why maintenance and repairs are so expensive. My local shops just have a little blurb on their websites that says something like “check for leaks, replace pads as needed, oil mechanism, and remove tarnish” that makes it sound much less complicated.
It is so great to see you back here again......:)

Thank you so much for posting this! I didn't even know flutes needed this done! I found my mom's flute last week while I was cleaning (long story), and she's given me permission to learn how to play using it, but it hasn't been touched for years. The last maintenance I know of was when she had it replated, but it's been upwards of a decade. I can't recall mom ever having something like this done to her flute, either, though it's possible she had her dad do it (grandpa was a professional piano tuner, but he repaired other instruments, as well), so even if it hadn't been sitting in the case for years, it's probably in major need of a cleaning and overhaul. 😬😅 I'll make sure to get this done before I start trying to learn on it; at this point, I don't even know what brand it is, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

@20:40-(note) in case of my untimely early departure, I thought I should add comment, for analytics of course. I will stop complaining about how much/$ my 1st ABS Recorder is! This is beautifull! I'll never forget, the H-D Shop owner would let me go back in the shop, and watch, only dont bother the me hanics. How exciting to see the 4-speed tranny being reassembled! Thanks to the Shop Owner. Thanks to the youtube producer for sure! Happy Thanksgiving . @34:54/Woo apostrophe Hoo! & thanks buy$
This was fascinating, you must be a mind reader Jo, because I bought my flute at FCNY and I've been thinking of sending it in for it's first COA! Now I know what to expect!

More like 2 years, (pandemic flute) but I'm a non-professional player who plays in two community bands. One got back to playing in 2021 and the second is getting back together in a few weeks. As a senior citizen, it'll take me a while to save up but hopefully by the end of the year I can do it! Until then I'll just keep "playing on!" From one "Jo" to another "Jo" 😊 Take care!

Yeah, I remember one year I had to delay my COA for about 9 months because I had to save up as well. All good! Just take it in when you can ^_^ And take care too! -from this Jo ;)
I have a Gemeinhardt 3SHB that has sat more than it's been played over the years. I can only guess that's not the best thing for an instrument. Fun video, this is a craft I'd enjoy learning. If I ever find myself somehow living in New York, I want to work there! Your play tester is quite the player.

Please remind us the brand of the right hand rest. The one I’m finding online has many complaints about being too loose and sliding around.
So, for those of us who don’t play as often as the pros, (recreational play only), how often should this be done?
this is kind of an asmr for flutists
