Fluorescent Light Troubleshoot & Repair
Fluorescent Light Troubleshoot & Repair The lights would flicker and sometimes not come on at all. Changed out the bulbs and no change they still flicker and not come on at all. Suspect bad ballast or starter. New light fixture was half the price of a new ballast. Replaced entire light fixture.

Right! It's cool that many guys are simply replacing their bad ballast (for $35 - $65) however, an entire new light is $20. Therefore, why bother? I'm glad you made this video to show everyone.
Great advice. My car lights were also having issues, so I used your advice to troubleshoot and repair by just buying a new car....

That's what you call troubleshooting and repairing, great video! Thanks 😡
Thanks for the info! You just saved me from having to pay someone to tell me I need a new dohicky and a new whatchamehcallit when I could just buy the whole shooting match and cut out the middle scammer. Thanks for the heads up on the bulbs too!

Gotta get your technical terms right if you want respect among the tradesmen: It's "doohickey" and "whatchamacallit." Also, cheaper in the short run and the long run to replace with LEDs.
Well he did say he changed out both light bulbs for new ones, and that the problem persisted, so he identified the problem as a faulty ballast. I don’t understand why so many people in the comments said he didn’t “troubleshoot” the situation. The ballast was bad, and he simply decided to buy a new fixture because it was cheaper. Simple.
You repaired nothing my fried. You replaced it with a new one.
This is awesome! No BS sometimes its easier/cheaper to replace
Wow you fixed it pure genius
Not a "Fix" brother, it was replaced... big difference.. although, a new one was cheaper than rebuilding the old one ironically
This is by far the best repair ever. You took a close look and worked it out straight away. Good for you bill. Hey bill one last question, how did your new house searching go?. as when I spoke to you last your front door was broken
Replacing the light is not showing me how to fix it.....thanks
Thanks bud 🎉
Thanks man! I never considered replacing the whole fixture would be cheaper.

Cheaper in the short run AND way cheaper in the long run to replace with LEDs. No need to still be using fluorescents full of mercury.
Great trouble shooting tip, buy a new one...

@@billeaglerunner6844 Well to be fair, the bulbs were replaced. That was step one. Step two was looking for the starter that did not exist. Step three was look up the "ballast". Step four was "go to the store and buy the significantly less expensive completely new unit". I Challenge *ANYONE* to do better given the resources.

Still waiting for the "troubleshooting" part. Not wanting to buy a new one is why we are all here.

if the ballast is bad you have replace the entire light. Its cheaper and easier.

Did you even watch the video? He did trouble shoot the problem. He changed the bulbs, there was no starter so the only other option left is a bad ballast. He bought a new light because it was less expensive than a new ballast.
Good deal. Just might run back up to Lowes and get that fixture after the bulbs didn't do the trick. Only puts out dim light.

Where was the trouble shooting ??? I fhink when my lights quit working im just gonna buy a new house. Problem solved. Lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
WOW GOOOD VIDEO
As to the complaints, that this was not a repair. I changed the bulbs, trouble shot the ballast, electrically, and it appeared to be good. No continuity between the white and any other wire. Seems like there could be a problem with the ballast, even with no continuity, like a permanent open circuit? In any case, it appears the smart move, is what this gentleman did, get a new fixture. I would not criticize him, seeing as I am going to follow his suggestion and start fresh. I have wasted a lot of time with fluorescent fixtures in the past. Seems like they could have been made better.
Sometimes ya just gotta go new! Smart man! Time to grab a beer and shoot some 9-ball! (Brady poster’s gotta go though..) haha just kidding! Cheers!
This is fucking hilarious
You stated troubleshoot not go buy one.
Thank you!

When replacing the entire light, why not go LED like #1 did? tubes you are using have mercury and are a pain to dispose of.

LED's arent as good and you can throw the merc ones in the trash. super easy if you just break them.

@@40toamillion91 HELLO!?! you are not supposed to be tossing Fluorescent Lights in the trash. seriously. educate yourself a bit before speaking.
I had my ballast replaced last year. I just changed out my bulbs, and one lights up. There is no flickering. The other 3 don't come on. Help!
I bought a generic ballast for $5 at hd or...you can buy a random Lot of 5, for less than $20 on eBay from a bulk seller on there. Or...you can get the whole “decorative” set up at the restore.

This price of $11 has to be the states as here in Canada in 2020 they are twice and more that price.
replacement balast last 10 years or more of dayly use 11 doller last cheap made balast 1 to 2 years then its bad again over time its cheaper to give the 100 dollers and not have to replace every year iv used these lights all my life i use to do same thing just buy new after i gave 50 for new balast its been 10 years of dayly use no problems
I think you can only use T8 bulbs
way to go !
Where is the troubleshoot and repair
Is that you John Wayne, or is that me....
What a marooon
At what point is this a troubleshooting video?
Bill, you sound like a fine fellow..but posting as troubleshooting/repair, when you did absolutely NOTHING of the sort…
What a waste of time. Exactly NOTHING was repaired.

I discovered that 2 years ago...but I think my message got lost....Point is...you have a title that says ""troubleshoot" don't show a video that shows replacement.

You call it troubleshoot and repair??? Waste of time you just replaced the damm thing
Those were pre- uncle Joe prices. Now, it cost $11 in gas to fetch the new shop lamp. March 2022 as it jumped just over $4 in Nebraska. 14 cents tax to the state, 64 cents to Joe’s man diapers. 197 workers fired off the Keystone pipeline making an average of $109k per year, priceless!
Not a repair ………..it’s a replacement…………..
