Flu Attack! How A Virus Invades Your Body | Krulwich Wonders | NPR
Ғылым және технология
When you get the flu, viruses turn your cells into tiny factories that help spread the disease. In this animation, NPR's Robert Krulwich and medical animator David Bolinsky explain how a flu virus can trick a single cell into making a million more viruses.

Fun fact: Sexual reproduction(not the act, merely using two gamete cells that produce a composite of 2 parents rather than just using a clone of a single parent) is in effect changing the lock on your child's cells, at least somewhat, to make the receptors on the outside of a cell just different enough to give your kid more of a fighting chance in staving off an infection from a virus. This is the reason why populations that have low genetic diversity, whether it's fish in a pond or royals in an inbred family can be more susceptible to illness (but also other diseases caused by inbreeding aren't just linked to viruses being used to the "locks" on your cells, many of them are more about recessive alleles getting amped up so much that the negative effects caused by those alleles are expressed.) Anyways, don't inbreed folks. The Habsburgs know the consequences.

Cells do communicate to slow down the infection by releasing messenger peptides. They inform the surrounding cells of the danger. When the virus will enter a nearby cell, the cell will produce RNA-destruction enzymes aimed at the virus' RNA. It will then be digested as soon as it's released from it's capsule.

I have a virus at the moment and feel unwell. I'm cheering on the blob thing like "come on Blobby, launch your little cannons and make the "splirt" noise to kill these things"
So my question is, what are the locks on the cell for? What are they there to invite in and to keep out? They're usually opened by what exactly?
This should be part of a national advert education to help people understand how viruses work. I had a video for my a level biology which was great showed how the virus attacks the cells and correlates it with the stages and symptoms of a cold/flu.
And I thought Earth had war problems....
Sorry, can anyone help? What is called the key to unlock the cell? The purple and orange things on the membrane? Thanks and sorry but I am just curious
