Floyd hadnt fought in 2 years and did not spar in the last 30 days to keep his hands from being sore.He fought straight ahead .Good fight .Mayweather definitely the best boxer of our generation.Conor is a tough guy for sure.

After this Floyd loss i see people disregarding Conor's work in the octagon... here are some facts - In UFC conor is 9-1 78% Finish rate Holds wins over Holloway, Aldo, Eddie, Chad, Nate, Dustin Not a single boring fight win or lose Never missed weight Was always humble in victory and defeat Brought so many new eyeballs to our sport which helps our fighters earn more Technically beat every guy he ever faced in UFC Yet still people find a way to disregard his work completely and say things like "He cant fight past 2 rounds" "He's never faced an elite wrestler" etc I hope he comes back and show people what he's all about and leave a bulletproof legacy. IMO he is a Legend in our sport.

I've rewatched this fight at least 10 times. I've watched the whole fight from 2 different angles at x0.25 speed all the way through. I saw clearly EVERY shot that has landed and EVERY shot that near missed and I've come to the following conclusion: 1. The first 4 rounds were much closer than they looked. Conor was giving many looks but Floyd was beautifully evasive. My take away was that Conor maintained long range and Floyd was not prepared to overextend to throw punches and the one or two times he did commit, Conor did a good job of slipping and touching him with a counter. I understand more now by watching it in slow motion, what Conor was saying about the gameplan changes from Floyd. It seemed that Floyd was having trouble getting into a range that he was comfortable with. He was in no rush to land anything and was being very defensively responsible with the shots that Conor was throwing. Conor was doing a good job of keeping Floyd's lead hand busy with his own lead hand, and was baiting him to throw his straight right but Floyd was too smart for that. BUT Conor landed something and Floyd landed basically nothing in the first part of this fight, but honestly the rounds were close as far as actual effectiveness. 2. The next 4 rounds (5th to 8th) were MUCH more competitive than people are giving Conor credit for. Whilst Floyd decided that forward pressure is the best course of action (shelling up until he got into range before firing, rather than countering, punching into range or setting traps as he was trying to do early on) he was still not landing a whole lot. However when he DID land, he landed with much more authority than Conor's punches BUT Conor did land a few hard punches in this part of the fight that people missed. Floyd got hit with that signature straight left 3 or 4 times in the segment of the fight but took it and came forward, Conor threw these with power splitting Floyd's bull guard but Floyd knew that eventually all this pressure will break Conor down. Conor moved well as Floyd came forward in these rounds, getting hit with a few solid shots here and there but for the most part being a decent matador. 3. The sequence in the beginning of the 9th round was started off by a straight left that lands hard on Floyd, from the other angle I saw it from (it was someones phone or something, they posted it up on YT but I think it got taken down like an hour ago, really good seats lol). This was followed by Conor pulling Floyd in with his right hand and coming around Floyd's guard with a left hook followed by a body shot that hit just below the belt or on the belt on Floyd's left side. It hit him in the hip. Floyd curls over and backs up like he got hit in the balls. Maybe he was pretending, maybe he was trying to buy time because the first left hurt him, maybe his nuts were squished to the far left near his hip. I don't know. But what is interesting is that when Floyd saw that the ref didn't step in, he essentially bent over to where his elbows touched his knees, giving Conor no legal target to hit. I don't know if he was hurt or what, but Conor tried to find his chin again one last time with his final burst of energy and then crashed HARD. It was an interesting sequence that only Floyd knows what really happened there, and he'll never admit that he was hurt by a legal punch, not unless it was obvious, which it wasn't. 4. The stoppage was good. Conor MIGHT have been able to survive with a man less skilled than Mayweather, but Floyd would've been too accurate, too energetic and too smart to let him escape that 10th round. Conor proved some very impressive things about his game that night, but also exposed some holes. His ability to deal with pressure, his ability to fight inside, his economy of movement, his mentality; they're all not on par with an elite boxer. All these are what separates an elite boxer from a talented boxer. A raw talent might have footwork, reactions, vision, distance and timing like Conor, but he hasn't put the time in to understand his body's economy, understand how to deal with constant forward pressure, little tricks to inside fighting. Floyd is too seasoned. He's simply a more complete boxer, a better boxer. Conor has very good amateur skills (4 round skills). 12 rounds is a different game.

The fight was not stopped early. Some people are too tough for their own good. The ref stepping in perhaps saved Conor from suffering years of CTE or brain damage from unnecessary punishment. Just because he didn't drop to the canvas doesn't mean his brain wasn't rattling around after those punches.

I agree. It should be up to the fighters to decide, but me too I'm thinking why should Conor risk unnecessary damage in a fight that was lost at this point? He still has a career ahead of him and he was very lucky to make so much money. It would be a shame if he couldn't enjoy watching his kid grow up in good health.

Coach, you're a great MMA ambassador to the Boxing world. Very diplomatic, inviting boxing purists to try the MMA gym in a positive tone so they can see fighting in a much wider perspective. And that's the only way to open people's perspective, which is if they try it out themselves. Otherwise, they'll continue to stay in their confined boxes.

I disagree about the clinch: Conor did not win clinch exchanges. He took Floyd's back on two occasions and, needless to say, it was useless in boxing since the whole back is an illegal target. Most of the times Conor wanted to clinch to break the action he ran into Floyd's elbow like most of Floyd's past opponents. Then Mayweather posted Conor on his forearm and fired right hands. Simply put: different types of clinch, for different sports. Just because McGregor did something that would have been considered winning the clinch exchange in MMA, does not mean he won clinch exchages in boxing. Much like the stuff that wins you clinch exchanges in Muay Thai won't win you clinch exchanges in Greco-Roman wrestling. It was boxing match and Conor lost clinches.

Hey coach, I was listening to Demetrious Johnson talk about the fight, scoring and how it works ect. He said in boxing when the defensive fighter defends it counts for the defender. I was shocked he said when Floyd had his gloves up moving in to Conor. He said said every punch to his gloves was points/defended points for Floyd. Conor throws a lot of feelers(hitting Floyds gloves) out to test the distance, but i guess those are giving Floyd points?

Floyd's forearm & elbow technique Firas, I am nowhere near your level of expertise, but I got the impression that Floyd was way above McGregor with regards to the "boxing clinch" in which he knew better when to throw and not to throw when both were clinching in facing each other, he was even punching on the breaking off of the clinch and I strongly got the impression that those elbows/forearms to the throat to buffer the frontal clinch absolutely surprised and outclassed McGregor.

Thanks Coach Zahabi.... Appreciate all your videos. Just a few questions and comments regarding the fight and your analysis thereof. I should mention that I am a big of both Boxing and MMA fan. I train MMA, BJJ and wrestling, however, I did start my combat sport journey in Amateur boxing, so I do hold both sports in high regard, though I feel like I hold a higher respect to the sweet science. I do acknowledge that they are 2 different sports. 1) You mentioned that Conor out-clinched Floyd, however, Conor did mention, post fight, that Floyd was strong in the clinch. What do you make of this? 2) Do you think Conor would have survived the standing eight count if he went down? I don't think so.... It was a spectacle event, and I feel that the referee saved Conor from unnecessary brain trauma. While Conor did mention that it was a bit of an early stoppage, He clearly acknowledged defeat and wasn't very upset about it. I feel like he was close to being properly knocked out and just claimed such to save face. Though props to him, he survived almost 10 rounds with, arguably, the best boxer of all time. 3) Even in a boxing match, Conor cut a bit of weight. While i'm not sure how much he cut, do you think it played a large role in his fatigue? 4) While most claim that Conor hit Floyd with some good shots, Floyd seemed to be in no danger. In fact i would say that Floyd's right is better than Conor's Left. Simply, faster, more accurate and timed better. Would you agree? 5) I don't think majority of casual MMA fan's appreciate the levels of skill there are to only fighting with 2 hands...They think that less tools = less skill. Similarly, boxing fan's may not understand the brutality of MMA. However, that's another rant altogether. Agree or not, MMA will take over boxing. Do you think we will see an influx of top level elite strikers learning adequate grappling defence and dominating the octagon? Hope to hear your thoughts. Dean

....11:39 'If you can recover in the fight, you wont be so worried about cardio anymore' WTF is this? This isn't MMA where you can lay down on the ground and rest against the cage and hug each other while you take a breather..This is boxing. If you haven't been putting in your roadwork (which Conor was NOTEDLY not doing, he doesn't run, which is why doesn't have any true stamina or endurance..which was evident to all the boxing eyes who watched his media day workout where he was GASPING for air hitting the heavybag and afterwards) then you're not going to be conditioned when you get in the ring. You can't recover and be effective if your cardio is shit.

Honestly the referee saved him from the embarrassment of having an internet meme of himself all over the web for the next 5 years. Conor performed admirably but if you think that Floyd was in any way taxed in this fight, you don't know what you were watching. Conor hit Floyd flush with an uppercut in the first round (before fatigue comes into it) and Floyd didn't even flinch. Again, Conor did well but don't get carried away. Conor is not top 200 when it comes to power if you include boxing. Boxers hit MUCH harder than MMA fighters. Too many people don't realize that MMA fighters in general are not great stand up fighters.

he hit him with weak uppercut and Floyd had shock written in his face. check first 10 seconds of round 9. ref saved him. Conor had him beat. referee saved Floyd from embarassment that nt only would McGregor be able to drag him to decision like he did against Diaz but would even find a way to win. in a boxing match boxers are more likely to land harder punches but if you put them into test on some kind of machine that shows the force after they set up their punches he hits harder than many boxers. however he couldn't do that here. cause in boxing boxers simply are better at seeking opportunities, they know when to press hips and legs. MMA fighters aren't great stand up fighters? I would love to see how not great standup fighters they are if you put a boxer against them and they swing a heel across his head. IN STAND UP

Great video, but I have to disagree about one thing with the uppercut. Yes it was a beautiful counter, but a big hit, it was not. There’s really no way for us to truly gauge the power of the punch, however if you look at the reaction of mayweather’s face and head at the time of impact, it’s more evident that the uppercut had NO ZIP on it. Look at the way Conor’s face distorted compared to Floyd’s. And Floyd was SURPRISED, but it did not stun or hurt him AT ALL!

As for head trauma and damage - according to doctors stumbling is always regarded as the result of head trauma, it is not the result of fatigue.

Jack Slack can never be accused of being an MMA hater, and he put it well in his last podcast. Either you have to admit that Connor McGregor doesn't have the "touch of death" type power, or you have to admit that the +100 punches he hit Mayweather with weren't particularly meaningful. You can't have it both ways. Mayweather showed no fear of entering into the pocket on McGregor, or letting McGregor enter the pocket on him. This includes the early rounds, where McGregor supposedly still has his "touch of death" power. Connor said it himself: precision beats power, and timing beats speed. But against Mayweather, he was not able to place his punches with precision or timing, and Floyd wasn't afraid of Connor's raw striking power. Look, Connor acquitted himself very well in the bout and should be commended for that, but let's stop acting like Mayweather was ever not in full control. Floyd took a couple rounds to figure Connor out (and if Connor wanted to waste himself needlessly, all the better). But after Mayweather had the measure of his opponent, his plan was simply to force engagements, knowing that he would give better than he got each time and that the exchanges would get more lopsided as the rounds went on.

Boxing’s culture against MMA has existed way longer than the May-Mac fiasco. This goes all the way back to the inception of the UFC and further back. I believe that boxing became comfortable as being the premier “baddest” most pure and skilled form of unarmed combat in the world; at least to the popular eye. That said, MMA has become so huge that it really does supersede boxing by far as being the closest thing to true unarmed combat we’ve ever seen. In a real fight, the trained MMA fighter could potentially due far worse damage than the boxer. Proficiency beyond punch-work, footwork, head movement, and other boxing fundamentals, mixed martial artists are exposed to a much wider range of styles that have a wider application overall. MMA also has a culture that is engrained in the traditional martial arts where respect and honor are much more valued than the dirtier world of boxing. The insecurities of arrogant, not all, boxing purists, are deeply rooted from generations of pride that have existed for a long time. These are some of the things I’ve observed over years of studying both sports.

i agree with the stoppage because A. mcgregor was noticeably dead tired for not just one round , but like 3 rounds in a row, he was practically panting dead- and B. wasn't defending himself . its easy to say- "I want to fight" afterwards- but in the heat of the fight- he was done- mentally out of it.

It was impressive that McGregor was able to land that counter uppercut, but that's the exact reason why everyone is saying his power is overrated from a boxing perspective. He landed a perfect clean left uppercut in the first round while he was fresh, pretty much the hardest punch he could possibly land other than perhaps a straight left... and it had little effect on Mayweather. Mayweather ate it, didn't budge at all, and continued walking him down.

Floyd often fights south paws aggressively. Judah and corley are good examples of how he fought mcgregor. When a south paw is fighting off his back foot it seems his best approach is to stalk his opponent out of a high guard.

Nice job! Thanks. Boxing is an INSTITUTION, as such you can expect certain behaviors from its adherents (fanatical devotion at all levels). MMA is for the most part only 25 years old (aprox.). For those of us that have gotten to see mma evolve; you can be sure this fight will have an impact in regards to strategy, punching , on and on. LOVE mma, thought Floyd fought a brilliant fight. Composure means taking an uppercut in the first round and 1). not showing remotely how you feel. and 2). instantly / seamlessly making adjustments. That's why Floyd is Floyd ! Connor will be that much better just for having stood in the ring with Mayweather and experiencing him on that level. That means that the big winner are mma fans. Remember, in the beginning the question was: which style of unarmed combat is the most effective. At first it was Jujitsu, and submission fighters, then the wrestlers. latter the strikers emerged (adapted / learned / evolved ). Now we have wrestlers who strike and strikers who can submit. The sport will adapt and grow from this and that's why I freakin LOVE it. 4 to 5 Mayweather TKO in the 10th.

You MMA guys really wanted to see McConnor dead as much as me, I also do agree that was an early stoppage. McGregory was with his hands through the ropes absolutely "FATIGUED" with Floyd all over him, one more good hit and he could've got knock out through the ropes and landed in the first row and hit his head or something and die. We all would've enjoyed that right? And not only that the ref would've been fired and lose his livelihood for not stopping the fight earlier. So now we would be talking about why McConnor die because the ref didn't stop the fight early.

Keeping McGregor on the back foot was the safe play for Mayweather. Conor is most dangerous moving forward or when you close the distance to him. When he is constantly moving back he is in his worst position to get off shots. Before round 9 McGregors corner told him to clinch up and recover that round, at the start of the round he saw an opening and started blasting shots, the ref broke it up, I think he had an adrenaline dump at the reset, as he was already very tired it seemed to zap him mentally, leaving him more or less defenseless. Either way, I enjoyed the fight. I do think the fact that he lasted that long with the output he was throwing will really help him in championship MMA fights. I think training hard rounds longer than a fight lasts will help him get past the mental break that tends to happen to him, add to that training to conserve energy and not to jump on every opening that presents itself with his explosive movements, and he could turn into a great 5 round fighter.

Its was entertaining and better than I thought it would be. Was surprised by how long it lasted and Flyod seemed like he wanted it to go longer, make it a better fight than it was. Conner is a beast in MMA but boxing is boxing and a different sport altogether. Good stoppage, brain damage is a bad thing ;) Im a fan of both of them in their respective sports, good show!

About the stoppage; As the ref, you can't let a fighter continue if he already quitted. "Mcgregor is so special, he has GREAT first round stamina/power." - Bro, we got plenty of these in boxing. It WAS an early stoppage. He wasn't out on his feet. He was still moving. Mayweather didn't have him trapped and wasn't teeing off. McGregor is a cage fighter. He takes a lot of punishment and wasn't wobbled. I can't recall many boxing stoppages that early, if any. Show me a major fight with a stoppage under similar circumstances that people did not say it was early. Mayweather explained why the ref protected McGregor's future.

If they understood the grappling game, and the transitions from striking to take downs, I really think they'd appreciate it more. I know for ME personally, I enjoy watching BJJ matches just as much as I enjoy boxing. If not more than boxing. It's literally human chess. The room for error is pretty much nonexistent at the elite levels. If they knew what was happening, I truly believe that they would fall in love with it as well. Appreciate these videos coach!! Yes, I agree and I knew people would miss the point of my comment, but I'll be glad to mention again. Holly Holmes trained substantially for MMA. Mercer may be an example for your side of the argument but even coach zahabi mentioned at around 4 minutes that sylvia was more of a counter wrestler than a wrestler (yes I'm implying that a good wrestler with mediocre boxing will beat a good boxer with mediocre defense, though that is highly up for debate). If you also read my comment, I'm not saying that a boxer going into MMA won't do well. I'm saying that someone with pure boxing experience going into MMA in the same amount of time that McGregor had against a world champion won't win because it's virtually impossible to learn and master all those martial arts in several months. My example would be, let's grab canelo or GGG right now, give them the same amount of training for MMA as Conor spent preparing for Mayweather. There is absolutely no way that they can be competitive with a jose aldo or even nate diaz in the octagon. Give them years of practice, then yes I would definitely give them a chance.

If u truly understand the sports then u recognize what goes on inside the octagon and/or the boxing ring, some people just don't recognize how Floyd just played around in the ring and think that Conor actually did good, Floyd toyed with him, the tactic he used to just walk him down was something u can do against a rookie who doesn't know any better, he smiled the whole time, winking at people outside the ring and wasn't even breathing hard, that was one of his easiest fights and yes he carried Conor to the 10th round to give the fans a show but he was never in any danger

Hey Zarabi I feel you slightly misinterpreted my comment. So I'm gonna try to explain it further here. I'm mainly talking about endurance here. Would love to hear what you have to say. Probably wrote a few things twice but I'm not gonna proof read this. When it comes to endurance sports you have to know your baseline effort. When you run a Cooper's test you have to know how much you are running before hand so you can hold a steady pace. If you sprint above your predetermined base line during the beginning of the Cooper's you can't maintain your normal baseline for the rest of the test and you will end up with a lower distance. When you do a cross country race on a bike you have to know where your Functional Thereshold Power is so you don't break into the red zone. You can sustain that effort level for a long time but if you go beyond that it's impossible to recover during the race. Conor started by sprinting whereas Floyd worked below his baseline during the first rounds. Now that Conor has broken his baseline effort level it will only be a matter of time he completely fatigues out. Floyd could engage but he doesn't really need to as just keeping Conor working will win him the match because of Conor's early sprints in an endurance race. As we saw Conor didn't recover during the match and eventually was completely fatigued as you would expect to happen to someone that sprints into the red zone at the beginning of an endurance race and after that tries to work at their base level effort. To me it seems like yes Floyd could've engaged but that also gives Conor a chance to land, whereas keeping Conor working at a steady pace will eventually fatigue him because of those early sprints. Maybe Conor could've recovered after the 4th but at the beginning of each round he gave Floyd a flurry of punches to land that KO, which essentially is a sprint. Whereas Floyd began with a very low workrate and worked up to a moderate effort level. Floyd was very careful not get even close to punching himself out. I think Conor he did the right thing with sprinting for a KO at the beginning of rounds, because he wasn't trying to win on points but on a KO, so he gave himself the highest chance of that happening, whereas with points he was guaranteed to lose. Floyd did the right thing as well to give himself the highest chance of winning, keep Conor working and he will fade because of the early sprints, whereas by engaging you give Conor the puncher's chance. Like you said by engaging Conor would be forced to work as well, but not necessarily. If Floyd went in with a high workrate like Conor in the first rounds then there is a chance Conor can recover while Floyd punches himself out, and now the tables have turned. It's not very likely that would've happened but in my opinion that would've given Conor a better chance than what Floyd did, which was keeping Conor working at a steady pace. I don't think based on this match you can say who had the better cardio. Conor tried to sprint whereas Floyd worked below his baseline effort level and ramped up to that baseline. So it's not really about Floyd having better cardio but rather he was conserving his energy to go for the full 12, whereas Conor never meant to go past 6 and tried to sprint for a KO. They were doing different races. Even if Conor had better cardio those sprint efforts would still make him fade against Floyd's effort level maintenance. You can't cardio yourself out of a gameplan that includes sprinting. You make the best marathoners start with a few sprints and they can't recover from them. If you watch Floyd during the match you can see he has a very steady pace, which is what you want when you are doing an endurance race. You said allowing Conor to keep moving by not cutting him allows him to recover, yes but no. Because Conor is already more fatigued than Mayweather, he will not recover as fast or as much as Mayweather does when this is happening. So although Mayweather is allowing Conor to "recover" Mayweahter is still winning the war of endurance by not being as fatigued in the first place and because of that benefitting more from that recovery. To me Floyd looked like an endurance athlete who knows how to control their effort to not even risk going into the red zone and gassing out. Floyd went for the highest win percentage gameplan and stuck to it. What I mean by that is that Floyd cutting and engaging Conor would've deviated from his gameplan by breaking his steady effort level.

Not much analysis required. Someone who knew how to box (albeit he's 40, over the hill, small, retired, and not a concussive puncher) carried a guy who doesn't. McGregor did his job. He just had to do his best with his limited skills. Mayweather did his. He made it an entertaining "event" (although as a technical boxing match it was trash).

You can give Conor 3 rounds if your nice but probably only two. A very good two though. I Called Conor would make everyone believe he had a chance when he started so I much enjoyed the fight. He is a warrior and has the best hands in mma. Oh and Floyd didn't cut off the cage on purpose. Conor backed up the entire time and he is not use to running so much which made him work harder and tire out. I feel that was a great plan rather then cornering him. Floyd even said he couldn't turn up the heat because Conor had good hands. Made him run his ass off first

For me the real problem with mma is that you don't see the best technics of every martial art. That's why purists of every sport is difficult not to underestimate it. As we saw lately in boxing, also a top mmaer cannot win a tournament wrestler, or a kick boxer champion or a judoka etc in their sports. And especially if the mmaer is not top class, you often see a mess of badly or loosely executed technics. And then there is that choke thing or that multiple head elbowing or punching while on canvas, which have no sport meaning whatsoever and are pretty dangerous also. Anyway you get my point. I've been watching my whole life boxing, wrestling, tae kwon do and k1 kick boxing, so it's almost impossible to enjoy mma, just to watch some spectacular fatality in the end of each fight. So many beautiful technics out of the window there. And unfortunately Connor also doesn't have the technics (heeps, shoulders etc) on how to punch hard, especially a boxer who knows how to absorb punches. Not the right footwork, not the right composure, not almost anything. And all that are shown in his mma fights too regardless if he wins or looses. Difficult to watch mma. Maybe if it progresses enough as a sport rather than as a spectacle.
