I had a similar trial. I was attacked by what I think was either Lucifer or a another powerful demon. I was getting constant thoughts bombarding me that were not mine. I prayed and I fought back for about 5 years until it subsided and now its barely a whisper if it ever occurs and i just shut it down now. I dont even really hear those intrusive thoughts anymore.

Tell me ,how can you limit the holy spirit, r u God or something? No one can give the holy spirit its only God himself. Holy Spirit is the gift of god. You can't bie or asking God to give you the holy spirit. You only can ask God for his spirit to show you. But to be inside you, that's called a gift which you don't need to ask.
