Flower Bed MAKEOVER With Retaining Wall and Irrigation Drip System
Ойын-сауық
The main thing that has been lacking with my yard is a nice flower bed. This week we finally had a few days of nice weather so we got a start. We used a sod cutter to remove the grass and to dig out the border for the flower bed. Once we got all the concrete blocks set, it was time to install the drip irrigation system. Since we already had spray heads in there, it was fairly easy. Stay tuned for part 2 when we install the rock / mulch and plant all the shrubs and trees.

That new wall/garden area looks especially great with the stone in your front bricked wall. It was meant to be, so natural looking. Loved seeing your precise way of working. It’s beautiful
Oh meant to say that the wall turned out super amazing and really changed the look of the house. When you mentioned red maple my first thought was, 'will it clash with the red bricks?' then, 'is that too close to the house for a tree?' Can you grow Esperanza’s where you live? The yellow blooms would be a nice contrast & the size is easily managed. Can’t wait to see the next video of this project.
It's so nice that you have taken the time out of you busy schedule to do a few jobs around the house! Your son is a great help! Your home is very neat & well taken care of, I love the green garage! You have taken on a massive job, but in the end everyone is happy. What a great job you both have accomplished!!!
That wall !! Now I understand some of what’s going on in our yard with stone walls and caps that don’t budge…landscape glue who knew!?! I love this drip system that will be buried, right? I’m so frustrated trying to rake with system hoses every which way on top of gardens ugh. Thank you for such good explanations…my brain is now cooking up some outrageous changes in our future 🤣😂🤣
@TopNotchLawns

Yes that is definitely the goal! But that’s a consistent problem with drip systems! I agree they can be frustrating in a bed! I’m trying to make sure I have a tree appropriate for the area. I’ll have to look into Esperanza I am not familiar with that one

Thanks man 👍👍 Really appreciate! And we did pretty good, won’t go into how many times I learned my lesson the hard way! Lol
Looks great! If you're still wondering which tree to plant on the end, I would suggest a 'Slender Hinoki Cypress' tree. It grows to less than 12' and 2' wide. It has a kind of whimsical look. The dark green would stand out from the red brick front unlike a Japanese maple and those can get quite a spreading root system. Just a thought.
Looks great, you both did a fantastic job. Good luck with picking out your flowers.

Best part of the video IMO is you saying you're not that good at setting a level first row of blocks but then it all comes together perfectly. I've done a couple of similar projects on my property and I used the same method: try your best with the base layer, but then just hit the blocks with a deadblow hammer until they're level, checking like 100 times per block just to make sure. It's really comforting to know that I'm not alone. Gives me a lot of confidence.
I thought Japanese Maple before it flashed onscreen. I vote for rock for ease of cleanup. You and Justin work well together. The cap really dresses the wall up!

This looks fantastic, Brian & Justin. I love the retaining wall. I think a flowering cherry would look gorgeous at the end. Japanese Maples are pretty, but the color starts to fade the older the tree gets. I've had several over the years and eventually pulled them all out. Plus, I think the flowering cherry would look beautiful with the green paint on the house and the bricks.
@MaryB-ps8lg

Love the retaining wall. The roots of my sister's Japanese maple tree are rising to the surface and have ruined the lawn around it. They also think the roots are growing into the foundation since it is relatively close to the house. Have you thought of redbud trees? The "Okie" or Oklahoma redbud has beautiful deep pink blooms in the spring and then pretty green leaves. The other variety I think they call the Eastern redbud have beautiful pink blooms but are a paler pink.
I liked the addition of the music - that wind was fierce. You put a nice gentle curve in a flower bed so it will be easy to mow around, and I would take it out and around the AC unit unless you intend to cover that up with some sort of screen. I prefer mulch in my flower beds. When I bought this house the prior owner had put white marble stones around the base of two pine trees and it was a disaster, impossible to keep clean looking from the non-stop shedding of pine cones and small twigs from those pines. Mulch can just be raked out and replaced for a fresh clean look, or even just add an extra layer on top and clean out the following spring.
