They're impressive and when stood nearby you can feel the air movement. Issue is the flows they are putting over them and what it would cost us in the U.K.

I think for us in the U.K. the extra elec needed for the high flow isn’t worth it. As for the k1 it can handle a hell of a lot. I also have tropical ponds with South American stingray, each the size of a dustbin lid. Rays produce 10x the ammonia of a normal fish and the k1 handles it find. I run around 300 litres on each tropical pond, the rays eat about a kilo of fresh prawn, fillets and mussels a day. I did notice it took considerably more time for it to mature on the koi pond than the trop pond due to the lower temps.

I agree with you for most ponds. Commercially the benefits they bring outweigh the running costs but not essential for most hobbyists.

30k variflow on a 1,2m high shower through a 50 mm pipe and 90 degree bend does between 15 & 20k liters an hour. because of the soft water in Japan and the big stocking levels the showers are (partly) used to gas off co2 to prevent the ph from crashing. So I think using them in hard ( high ph) water will result in an even higher ph because of the co2 gassing off effect. So Bakki shower = high ph (in combo with hard water) & prevents ph crash in soft water. P.s. sorry for acting like a smart ass but I hardly ever run in to this info online, so just wanted to share.

The BIG issue I see with an excessive number of koi (we all want more!) is if there is a problem with the pumps shutting down in warm weather. This happened to a friend in California, and he lost almost all of his koi in just about 8 hours of no electricity. Thoughts? Great info though!!! Thank you!

I no im 8 months late on this but could i run the supply to my bakki shower through a Venturi to create more oxygen so having a Venturi just before the spray part what's you're thoughts on this Ricky?

It would make much difference, the design on the shower and flow rate is what will make the difference.
