It seems this was a unique performance that even her future self could not top. The best interpretation ever of this masterpiece.
Still the best version on KZread, 15 years later.
This video comforted me immensely during the loss of a child

these songs were written for Elizabethan's to sing for pleasure at home. In no way were they restricted to counter-tenors. This is a beautiful performance and I am showing it to my Renaissance music class. Thank you.
I love how expressive Ms Mignaco is while seated
This music leaps into life across more than four hundred years, thanks to these performers. Of course, it took a Dowland to compose it - but it would remain lost in historical archives if it wasn't re-created like this, for us today.
I come here every year or so to be devastated by and to relish these extraordinary performances; unmatched in my opinion. I feel so lucky to have found them, and to have been alive to hear them.
This is absolutely extraordinary and both musicians are fantastic! Anyone of you out there writing in comments/critiques such as "they didn't sing like that", etc. don't know that much about music and shouldn't waste your time or energy. Part of what makes music so incredible is that it is a subjective art form and when performed, is ultimately interpreted and reinterpreted. That's what makes it so special and unique! This video is incredibly special and unique!

2021 Still listening to this amazing performance❤️
She does one of the best interpretation I've ever heard of the music.
This is ART.
I listen to this about 5 times a day, absolutely stunningly performed. 5 stars.
The lute, incapable of loud music, was the perfect accompaniment for solo or small secular choral music in intimate settings like a parlour setting, a party. It was not compatable with large venues like opera or symphonies but flourished in the age before "concerts". It was polular at court and picnics even. The close synergy of these two performers is not only a remarkable achievement but emphasises the true recreation of the way this music was originally sung and played, a truly time-travelled exactness (in me humble ...) of the music of John Dowland - the first two decades of the 1600s - the ending of the age of Elizabeth I, the Virgin queen/(Virginia's namesake) and of the beginning of James the First (Jamestown namesake) - the age of the much loved William Shakespear.

This is not meant for two performers. It's meant for at least three, the lutenist, the cantus, the bassus. Some other songs have more than that, polyphonic songs, these. Well, it's how they were originally sung. For example, check www.classicalarchives.com/album/3760014193262.html and scroll to "Flow my tears."

Thank you for your words David Iarussi ...This is precisely why i simply love Baroque music...Its purity...its incapability of loudness...
The way she controls her voice is incredible, especially in those quiet passages, like an angel :O :) This is music! And the sound of the lute is so pure. Thanks!
This is just magnificent. Fantastic. These 46 people who did not like it, have no taste what so ever to music.
All these Valeria & Alfonso videos are a real treat, & their performance of this haunting song is particularly beautiful.
Unreal...........exquisite aural beauty............It astounds me how something so aged in the history of Western music could be so beautiful........
Moving. Dowland's time, so far away... But through this great performance suddenly close and alive.
So beautiful. I watch this repeatedly, every few months maybe and never tire of it. One of Dowland's finest and the finest performance of it I have ever seen. Thank you both for such a rendition!

Souvenir toujours vivant. Ceci dit, Valeria Mignaco m'enchante
What an amazing voice and lute performance! Thank you for sharing such beautiful music.
the repeat of the last stanza.......is the best thing......ever
This is so beautiful. Her voice is quite exquisite. Bravo.
Travelling through time is possible! This is the proof. Thank you for the journey.
the most beautiful interpreation of "flow my tears" that I've ever had a chance to hear
I love this song and the way you sing it. I got my little boy to sing this last year and he really liked it too.
happy happy and nice voice
Flow, my tears, fall from your springs! Exiled for ever, let me mourn; Where night's black bird her sad infamy sings, There let me live forlorn. Down vain lights, shine you no more! No nights are dark enough for those That in despair their last fortunes deplore. Light doth but shame disclose. Never may my woes be relieved, Since pity is fled; And tears and sighs and groans my weary days, my weary days Of all joys have deprived. From the highest spire of contentment My fortune is thrown; And fear and grief and pain for my deserts, for my deserts Are my hopes, since hope is gone. Hark! you shadows that in darkness dwell, Learn to contemn light Happy, happy they that in hell Feel not the world's despite.

@@RandomCommenter955 That's pretty funny. Would be interesting to hear it sung in Latin though.
Few songs and performances, give this special moment of silence, after the last tone has ebbed away. This is one of them. Thank You.
This is a revelation. And a rebuke---Where the f*** have I been ? I eat this stuff up, can never get enough. I have to make more room in my life for the things that make life worth living, like this duo, bless them.

GRANDISSIMA INTERPRETAZIONE !!! FANTASTICI !!!
this is soothing and relaxing.
How beautiful and pure is Dowland music...
Have been a fan of this one for many years. The repeat of the last stanza is hauntingly beautiful.
Sublime
In Memoriam John Dowland.
Lute with voice is really great! I feel transported to Renaissance Italy, but instead of black death there's Covid 19
Lovely! Bravo to both performers
I truly felt the era of the music in my soul. This was a rare joining of 2 souls. I say that because to bring the spirit of the song to life with the emotion they acomplished became a beautiful thing.
The natural ebb and flow and beautiful singing is so touching! Thank you for this beautiful gift!
greatest song from the renaissance
Just stumbled upon this by chance one day, and it became my favourite version of this song, ever. The speed at which it is performed is perfect here. There's a newer version, which is slower - and it's worse for it. Play this too slow, and it becomes sleep-inducing. Play it too fast, and it feels hectic. This one right here hits the exact mark.
what a voice.

guarda "come again" di Dowlan cantata da lei. Bellissima
Special resonance chair, and the lute player is in love with her.
Absolutely beautiful, love the voice and the lute.
C'est sublime!
john dowland was the most important lutenist of the reinssanse period.i curently play the lachrimae pavan on guitar (an instrumental version of this lute piece that dowland made)but i would absolutely love to acompany a voice with this.i am geting a little bit bored playing only concertos and guitar duets,i would love something new.thank you for shairing this piece.
What a lovely piece of music and a wonderful performance - great voice especially. Thank you, both of you.
Stunningly beautiful.
Heard lots of Dowland by lots of musicians. This is very nicely done!
Maravilhoso trabalho, voz muito disciplinada, e acompanhamento equilibrado. Belíssimo!!!
she is a princess so beautiful voice and person
Thank you! How utterly beautiful, this performance. The pain and desolation of the woman Dowland had in mind is transported so life-like that I think every man in the world who hears it would feel the call to come and comfort her.
Movingly expressive - a superb performance.
Molto brava! Complimenti!
How beautiful.
john dowland´s music is just magic, and also your voice is so beautifull! I´m glad to hear this song by you.
