One hint for taking a picture of paper charts: I like to pin my chart up on a bulletin board. Magnets on the fridge would work too. This allows me to take a picture head on and removes a lot of the distortion I get when the picture is lying horizontally. It also helps avoid the shadow from overhead lighting that the iPad will cast on the chart, and if the chart is printed on glossy paper, it helps avoid a glare from that.
This tutorial is a game changer Stacy! Thank you for taking the time to share how it works and yes I am struggling with some freebie charts that have boxes so tiny it is hard to see the symbols! This will help me so much with my stitching of This is The Day chart in the house bricks yeah!!!😀
Thank you so much! I’m getting ready to start a Dimensions and this will be so helpful.
Thank you for this tutorial!! I can't believe I hadn't found this app sooner!!
Love this program. Total game changer. I put PDF’s straight from the downloaded charts on to this program. I use my Apple Pencil to mark my progress. There is also a sheet that you can put all the information about date started fabric and floss changes.
I have GoodNotes, and do use it, but for cross stitching I use GoodReader. I personally like it better for stitching. No more fumbling with large charts sliding off the edge of the couch and highlighters falling in the couch! Thank you for this tutorial Stacey! Hope you're feeling better.
This is genius! I use GoodNotes for digital planning. I NEVER thought to use it for cross-stitching too. I am so excited now!
Thank you so much for showing Good Notes. I might try it myself.
Just found this demo. It is going to be a game changer! Thank you!
I don't have an IPAD but I have Needlebug who does have a IPAD and she uses Markup R XP. I use this on my android tablet. This was a game changer for me.

Yhank you Stacy and thank you Donna for the Android alternative! I installed it immediately. And it is in Dutch available, wow! I'm sure this will be a Gamechanger for me too.
Sorry for the delay in replying. I loved this tutorial! I loved that you taking time to show the pro and cons. Thanks so much “
Hi Stacy! I’m a new subscriber. I love your channel! I’ve been using Goodnotes for several years for journaling and my daily planner. When I saw this video, I thought about my three ring, binders full of patterns! Ugh! I love trees also🌳 I like to keep my patterns and sometimes do them again for different projects. So I went into the app and chose notebook. I took separate pictures of different parts of my pattern and put them all into a notebook, then added a pic of the color code guide. I named the notebook with the pattern name. Definite game changer. Thank you so much!❤
Great tutorial Stacy! Some of the symbols are so similar on charts that you need to really enlarge or use a magnifier. This will be a game changer for those charts. Thank you for sharing.
I’m going to try it. It looks fabulous and my husband. I hope will help me since he is an engineer.
Thank you so much for telling and showing us about GoodNotes. I’m sure that this is going to be a big changer for me. I like how it can show me the symbols close up. Thank you for taking time to show us this. Prayers for complete healing for your hand and arm.
Good Notes is wonderful. I can’t imagine not using it. It’s even better using a pdf because you can just put a copy of the whole project in Good Notes. Love it
I have been using GoodNotes for a very long time. My eyesight is bad for reading symbols and it’s wonderful to be able to enlarge the chart. You can also add a calendar to GoodNotes and import stickers so you don’t even need a book of days. You can track all of your progress right on your iPad in GoodNotes and decorate it as well!! I also use an Apple Pencil instead of my finger. That way you can even write notes on your pattern if needed. It’s amazing what it can do!!

@JanMueller Are you using the free version or did you pay the one time fee?
@janmuelr

@@kathrynbosler One time fee but it’s very reasonable! I have had it for several years so I don’t know how much it costs now but it has been worth every penny! If you are interested in using a Calendar on it, there are tons of KZread videos on digital planning and digital calendars. That’s how I learned a lot of what I use it for!

I kept hearing about using Goodnotes for cross-stitch and wanted to learn more. I watched some other videos but they didn't help much and were confusing. I came across your video and it explained everything so well and so clearly!! I was able to download and start using the App right after watching and it has been a complete game changer for me! Now I can't imagine not using it. I can't think you enough for this video!!

Thank you, Stacy for making this video - and thank you for the step by step instructions and tutorial. You made me feel as if I were on the journey with you. I just successfully downloaded the app, and uploaded a photo of one of my charts. I have been stitching for 25+ years, and pretty computer savvy (its a huge part of my job) but had not found an app that had the right amount of "no-brainier" appeal and usage I needed it for my favorite hobby. The famous Android app which has gotten so much attention over the past three years reminded me too much of my day job and I am an Apple user. I just wanted a simple method of tracking my stitches beyond my tried and true yellow highlighter. I think I have found it with Good Notes. Profuse thanks!
If you want to change your chart from a colour chart to a black-and-white chart, you should be able to do that in your photo app. If you take the photo using your regular photo app on the iPad, and then edit the photo, you’ll be able to change the colours to black and white or gray scale. Then you can upload the photo into GoodNotes. You don’t need any fancy photo editing software, you can just use what’s available in the photo album area.

@TallgrassLane Stitches Thank you so much for this tip about changing the chart to black and white! It will really help me out so much! 💚
OMG! I have heard stitchers talk about this and now that you took the time to do this tutorial, its going to be a game changer for me too! THANK YOU!
Thank you! I just bought Good Notes 6. Love your tutorial and the ease of Good Notes.
Thank you for the idea. I have downloaded the app, marked what I had already stitched, and now I’m ready to go!
Hi Stacey, thank you so very much for doing this tutorial for us on GoodNotes. I have been fiddling with other apps (3 to be specific) for a few weeks now. I was getting very frustrated with importing, and lining up and getting color #’s and symbols in to the charts. Wasted so much time when I could have been stitching. When I saw your video I was so excited. You are a lifesaver. I have been watching your floss tubes for quite awhile now and really enjoy everything you share with us. Big hugs to you😊❤️😊 Deb
Thank you. I’ve been looking for an Apple app. I can’t wait to try and also use some of the other features your views added comments about!
Wonderful tutorial, Stacy. This will help so many of us stitchers. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the tutorial, I think I will give it a go and give up my highlighter.
Thank you so much! I usually cut up my paper copy and stick it on my project so it’s right there in front of me. What a pain trying to mark off progress and not mark my fabric. I can’t wait to try this. Your tutorials are great - so much detail and well done.
Thank you so much I just downloaded this is going to be a game changer for my stitching.
Invaluable video-thank you so much for taking the time to teach us how to use this!!!
That was a great tutorial. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the explanation to use this. I now understand again thank you!
Thanks for sharing this. I am not a computer person and found this easy to understand.. Again, thank you. I put this on my iPad and now have to add some charts. Will need to think more about adding a larger chart.
Thank you! I just installing the free trial version and tried it out with a Prairie Schooler Santa and it is going to be great! I can enlarge it for my poor vision and easily keep track of where I am on the chart. I suppose I could have figured it out on my own, but your tutorial saved me that learning curve. Thanks again. Stitchers are the best❗️👍
Thank you I’ll be here king this out.
Stacey, I use good notes for several crafts, along with cross stitch, I use for knitting and crochet patterns to keep up with where I am on a pattern, especially on graphs for color work. Enjoyed your video!
Thanks for this tutorial, Stacy! I’ve only been cross stitching for a few months after about a 30 year hiatus. Lots of new things to learn about. I’ve been taking photos of my paper charts and pulling up the photo & making it larger on my iPad to make it easier to see, but didn’t have a way to mark what had already been stitched. I had down-loaded the free trial of Markup (? I think that’s what it was called) but I’m not tech savvy nor tech intuitive, and even with watching a couple videos, it was too complicated for me. So I deleted the app. I’m looking forward to trying GoodNotes. Easy is better for me. Merry Christmas!
You are a treasure, Stacy. Thank you! Sally in Northern California 😁
Thank you so much Stacy! This was so incredibly helpful. I had just downloaded GoodNotes, then saw this tutorial! Omg - I’m so excited! Your step by step directions were perfect! Thanks so much 😊
Thank you! I had not heard of this. Really nice app.
I just found you a couple weeks ago. I went and got GoodNotes and my first pattern I put on it was The Collector’s by Autumn Lane stitchery. Can’t wait to start it.
If it’s come to importing to tablet I recommend taking picture, than hit edit, than crop In this step you can crop the picture to the size you like than you can rotate the angle so you have it straight, you even have a graph that will help you adjust. Than go to your color settings and turn it b&w, you can adjust the brightness and contrast. After editing import to your app You will have a perfect picture every time. There is a free way of using it. If you thanks the picture with your camera hit edit than hit the little marker on right top corner. It will sow on the bottom different pen you can chose a color. Once you done click done on top and done again. It will save the progress right to your photo without any apps. It’s free and ready to go without apps. Thx
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! I purchased GoodNotes a year ago and couldn’t figure it out! This is a game changer for me!! Great tutorial!!
Thanks for sharing the app. Looking for it now! 18:06
This is so awesome. Thank you for sharing❤❤❤❤❤
Very helpful!
I’ve been using GoodNotes to journal for almost 2 years but this quite possibly one of the best pieces of advice I’ve received!! How did I never think of this! Sometimes those charts are so darn hard to read! I download a lot of PDF designs so this is genius!
Thank you Stacy!
Thanks for the tutorial on good notes. I had never heard of this I down loaded it and I love it. I have been watching you for a long time. You always have a great show even when you are going through hard time. My name is Marilyn and I pray blessing on you and your family. Happy stitching.
Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Love this! Thank you for helping with this!
Great tutorial. I am not an iPad owner but it spurred me on to look what works for Android and Microsoft one note looks to be similar. it's a whole new world. Thanks for leading the way.

Wow.. thanks for your Goodnotes 5 tutorial . I used it today for the first time and it was fabulous. No paper and pen from now on and I love that I can enlarge the area I’m working on especially with all the confetti I have.❤
This was helpful. Thank you. 🙂
Thank you!! What an awesome way to keep track of my cross stitch!
Dang! Thanks nice lady....just checked $7.99 one time payment. Definitely getting this just for the zoom feature....how handy! Thank you!

The Zoom has helped me so much. I’ve had some charts that are so hard to read and some, I couldn’t even make out the symbol.
Thank you so much Stacey, I have been looking to the left at my chart so much that I have made my neck really sore. This will help a lot to have the chart in front of me instead of to the side. It was a one time payment of $7.99
I love GoodNotes for x-stitch! I use it for pdf charts, but for my older paper charts, I take a picture. It avoids the whole crease-in-paper-turns-into-tears issues, I can highlight without messing up the original or obscuring the backstitch lines, I can enlarge, I can colour-code my highlighting…I’m using it more and more lately.
Thank you! I just downloaded and am trying it out thank you!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am stitching again!!
Fantastic tutorial!!! Thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial Stacey!
Thank you, thank you, thank! Downloaded it right away and LOVE IT!

Looks like a game changer! Thanks for that

Hi there 😄 you've a gorgeous picture on your profile ☺️ just decided to stop by and say hi. I hope my compliment is appreciated..
Thank you Stacy for the great tutorial video! I am for sure going to try this app.
Thank you for this perfect step-by-step tutorial, sure looks easy.
Thank you - great information
Thank you for the tutorial, off to get that app.
I’ve been using GoodNotes for several years to annotate and study my Bible and I love it for my knitting patterns but never thought about marking the charts. 🙄 So now that I’m cross stitching again I thank you for showing me such an easy way to use it for chart marking. It is a very good tool for so many different things. Thanks again. I love your videos. 😀
Thank you so much for introducing me to GoodNotes. I am anxious to try it.
Thankyou so much!!! I’m going to try it!! Was very shy of doing on iPad but now I’m going to try looks so easy!
OMG. I wasn’t going to watch this because I’ve been stitching for over 40 years doing just fine. It came up on my screen so left it while I’m stitching. Then as you talked about It I thought about the mistakes I’d made on my current project. This app is exactly what would have helped in finding my place and seeing two stitches I had not seen until the 6th repeat of the motif. What a game changer! Thank you, Stacy, for sharing this app along with a quick tutorial. I’m using GoodNots with no help from my husband. I’m not too old to learn new tricks😄
I might have to give GoodNotes a try
Amazing tool! I think you may have changed my life 🥰. It’s downloading now - thank you sooooo much!
I bought a chart on Etsy the other day and was so happy to see I could download it right to Good Notes. Then at Hobby Lobby today I was happy to cross off the floss colors as I was getting them! Thank you for demonstrating! I think I will be using it a lot!
Thank you so much Stacy for this tutorial. How perfect. I can't wait to try it out and I love that free heart pattern as well....how beautiful. I am a sucker for hearts.....lol.
This was an eye opener for me. I have already downloaded the app and am ready to start using it. I have always highlighted on a paper chart but I am ready to “move on”. Many thanks for sharing this with us!
Thank you for suggesting this app! I’m using it for the first time and find it great!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I have downloaded the app and am ready to go. Awesome 🤩
Thanks Stacy great tool will check it out…
Thank you Stacy! I sure will use GoodNotes!! Great tutorial!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for the lesson. I stitch multi, multi page projects and I can hardly wait to do this! Stacy, you’re the best!
