    I had such a great time watching you share all your wips. It was lovely to see some old friends pop up again. You are an inspiration to me, 'allowing' me to crop or change parts of designs to fit me better. I know that these wip parades are alot of work, so thank you very much. By the way whilst watching I got 554 stitches into a piece that I am pushing for a finish this month - now at 96%! Have a good weekend. xxx

    I enjoyed this WIP parade, so many beautiful projects to see, some of which only appear in your annual parade ! I hope you will do more work on Stargazer as I love your colour choices on that. I wonder what you feel about having so much fabric & thread tied up in projects that you say you'll never finish... ? But I do see that you enjoy what you do & how you do it.

  • @StitchinMommy

    @StitchinMommy

    10 ай бұрын

    The only projects that have thread "tied up" are the ones that use fancy floss. I stitch from a master set of DMC, so anything that uses DMC - which includes all my full coverage and Mirabilias and many others - I work from the same box of floss. I restock colors as needed. I agree that having so many large projects "fully" kitted would be a waste of resources if I am not intending to finish them. :)

    I think I will! I made a plans video at the end of last year showing the 10 things I wanted to focus on this year, so that's probably a nice tradition to maintain. I have a list now of 12 things that will go in that "focus" spot, but I will just work through as many as I can - I don't think it's possible to finish ALL of them - but it's nice to have earmarked ones to at least make significant progress on. :)

    I think there's definitely different types of people where this is concerned. I used to be more monogamous than I am now, but I do enjoy starting things, even if other things aren't done yet. However, there is a limit even to my ability to handle numbers of projects - I feel like getting close to the number 100 woke me up and has helped me change my tune a bit with trying to focus on things more often than I had been to keep finishing stuff. And I am also quite bothered by those in the stitching community with multiple hundreds of started projects - too many for me!

    It amazes me how you can count cross country on fabric that isn't gridded! I've done one full coverage - HAED The Nativity - which I finished last year and the only way I could manage it was working in 10 x 10 squares on gridded fabric. I panic when I have a sampler with motifs that I have to count to for placement :) You are an inspiration to us :)

    Loved this video! You are so organized! I used to be pretty monogamous but after starting your videos ive upped my game lol. I watched the one where u were debating a yearly plan of working on for example 22 in 22. And i thought oh cool. But i dont have that many projects lol. I believe you said this in 2020 because i made it a point in 2021 to pick enough projects to get to 21 and in 2022 even if i didnt finish anything i could start another. I did end up finishing a decent amount and then starter enough to equal 22. Same for this year. At the start of the year i pick what i think i can finish with some focusing and then work on the other's leisurely lol. Not going to be as many finishes this year, but some and then still able to tack one more on thenplanned starts. I see so many of yours that could potentially be finiahed next year with a month of focus! Everytime you pull one out, im like that one that one! I also love hearing your plans and thoughts on plans. Im a list maker and a planner as well but generally dont make it last lkw you do. Good job! Great video! Ive fallen off the stitching wagon and have been reading and crocheting. Now i want to pick it up again.

    Your WIP parade is always so inspiring for me and motivates me to do some stitching. I have mostly been quilting, which I have fallen down the rabbit hole big time! But watching your WIP parade always reminds me of so many projects that I have which are the ones in your parade. Like you, I want to stitch on all of them, but I also want to quilt. So many choices. Your stitching is so beautiful and I always love your variety of projects. I am like you in that I LOVE color; I don’t know what I would do if we didn’t have color. I adore the Brooks Christmas ornaments and have been going to start them for many years. I am going to try to get them going if for nothing else than just the fun of stitching them - they are so adorable. Happy stitching and I wish you much progress!

    @StitchinMommy which reminds me. What ever happened to the diamond dot you were working on for you mom? Like an ocean scene? And then the butterfly you charted from a pattern? Do you ever pull those out? I haven't touched my diamond dots in almost a year!

  • @StitchinMommy

    Sadly, I haven't gotten those out in a LONG time! :( I think about them every so often, but it does take a chunk of time to get it out and work a section, so I haven't felt like I could "afford" to take the time lately. I have such high goals for my stitching that other hobbies like quilting and diamond painting get lost in the shuffle a lot of the time. I would like to figure out a way to bring them back, but maybe after I have some of these family pieces finished I can feel a bit of freedom to just chip away at my WIPs and take a day off here and there to do other crafts. :)

    @StitchinMommy I know what you mean. I cross stitch, crochet and read and it's hard to make time for all. When I get going on one, others suffer. I plan, kinda like you do, but the goals I set include all 3. I do this so one doesn't suffer lol, but sometimes I can't help myself from just going on and on with one or the other. Anyway, I get where you're coming from. And they won't go bad lol!

    I don't keep track of my stitches on projects that are not in Pattern Keeper, and even the ones that are, I don't keep a running total or accounting of any kind. I think I might reevaluate my approach to needing to see metrics on my stitching as they may bring me down as I see low marks vs seeing visual evidence of work in progress heading towards some sort of steps toward completion. Love September and you displaying & sharing all your stitching. I, too, needlepoint in addition to my cross stitch. I tried to explain the difference to a friend. Needlepoint you don't "need" to mark off your pattern; however, when you are done, you no longer have a pattern. I often thought about converting a needlepoint to a x stitch & am so very glad you did it. (maybe there is a software that will do that?). Anyway, whatever one stitches, hopefully they enjoy it as I know & feel your fondness for stitching is on par with mine. I tend to stitch things a second (& sometimes a third time). I often re stitch a motiff of a favorite pattern. Sometimes I take that motiff & stitch on different sizes of patterns and in different colors. Even if one cannot get NEW patterns or kits, they have tons of patterns that they can still stitch again and again. Happy stitching.

    This is so nice to watch. I was hoping to see you finish the antique shoe collection this year. But you do you. An idea for next years to come could be to pick up projects that you use the typewriter method on and finish a strand per 3 days or so. Then you would have some nice progress on some of them and none of those tangling threads anymore.

    Yeah, I had high hopes for that Shoe piece. I think I hadn't realized how cumbersome it would be to travel with. And other things started screaming louder to be finished. It's colorful and fun, but almost feels like it's a part of me since I've had it so long - feels weird somehow to think of finishing it! :D I have tentatively chosen to focus on finishing In The Beginning next year instead, but we'll see how I feel by the end of the year when I finalize my plans. :)

    You know you! I have a history of garment sewing, so I am familiar and comfortable with cutting buttonholes, which is a similar process. I'll definitely do all the stitching in the whole Hardanger section before cutting any of it - want to make sure nothing is miscounted! :D

    13 finishes considering the size/complexity of most is a marvelous achievement. I think you missed one though, the wander with me temperatures (or did I get distracted and miss that section?) Obviously letter fairies get priority in finishes next year, but that fancy lady alphabet looks like a possible focus on a finish (for the year - not a month lol). The cupcake could be a finish, the dragon rider looks like a solid candidate for a finish, so that's 4 solid finish options. Frosted Pumpkin seems to be leaning to a 2024 finish and it looks like a medium sized piece. So 2 mediums, and 3 larges (or large mediums) which is nothing to sneeze at for finishes could maybe be possible for you. I'd love to see more Princess of the Sea, Harmony and twisted rainbow sampler progress. Perhaps when the letter fairies are done you can pull your Mill hills back out? Give them 1 day a month so they can get some dedicated time. Could that my story sampler be an option for travel stitching? Or is it too complex? It looks like you touched a decent number of projects despite having 90+ projects and giving a few a lot of dedicated time. I feel like I've only worked on 3 projects this year, which I know is nonsense. The full coverage got 5 months of near-daily time, my oldest project was actually calling my name and might actually get finished this month, I started 7 pieces (finished 3), I've worked on last year's birthday start, I've worked on my large kit, I've gotten to nearly 25% on a Theresa Wentzler. There's only 1 project I haven't touched yet and I've finished 5 in total. I only have 12 wips which maybe is why it feels like I've got no variety. I haven't had enough smalls to break things up. 9/12 were started in 2020 or later and the 3 oldest are 2015-2018 so it's not like things are super stagnant, I'm just feeling stagnant. My finish total sounds pathetic, but life happened and stitching basically didn't happen for awhile. I've got 8 (or more?) smalls planned for Oct starts, 1 solid medium sized start for November, and then I need to think about a new year new start. (See, I'm allowing a start-athon while keeping my desire for finishes reasonable lol.) So oldest would be finish 6, an exchange piece (not started, nor on the start-athon list lol) would be finish 7, I've got a small I could knock out for 8, last year's birthday start is 50% done so maybe 9? Some of the Oct smalls could be finishes too. (Watch me feel overwhelmed at 20 wips next year lol.)

    What a lovely, long comment!! :D I don't include my temperature pieces in my WIP numbers, since they are technically "business stitching" for my Etsy shop. I have listed out 12 pieces (not even including the Letter Fairy, I don't think!) that I want to keep in that "focus" spot next year. Some of them can be worked on as travel stitching, some can be worked on in the "2 days a week" spot I'm planning to have for focus pieces, etc. I will probably to a video at the end of the year showing my focus plans - things might change a bit before then. :) I like your idea to replace whatever Fairy time I have now with Mill Hills when they're done. I think My Story would be too tricky for travel stitching - some of the stitches would be okay probably, but others might need more focus. Many of the things I have that are kitted with fancy floss might end up candidates for travel stitching though - as long as their fabric isn't too big. I feel like we each have a limit on how many projects feels comfortable to us (and that limit can change over the years, too!). I felt extreme pressure to change my tactics when I started nearing the 100 mark, but for others, they are fine with multiple hundreds and others feel overwhelmed with more than a few. :) I think your mind and heart will tell you when enough is enough. If you're enjoying the starts, have fun! If you start to feel the heat, rein it in and shelve some starts until later. :)

    I am stitching Fairytale Town 1 over 1 on 28 count Ice Blue Lugana by Zweigart. It is a color I stock to make kits for my Etsy shop, but you should be able to find it at cross stitch shops as well. I see that 123stitch.com has it in several sizes. :)

    That was so great to see! Thank you for sharing. I’m curious have you ever worked out how many stitches you do in an average year? Or how many stitches are left on your 91 WIPS? You could work out how many years to finish all your current projects (plus you could allow some stitches for new starts in that time).

    I only keep track of stitches on my projects that are in Pattern Keeper - and even those I don't keep a running list of. Figuring out how many stitches are left on non-PK projects would be next to impossible. I know some people will just use the stitch count of a piece and mark off the white space as they finish the stuff in a section. But in general, I'm not really interested in keeping & maintaining those stats - I'd rather stitch! :D

    Not to be a nitpick but it’s a little bit annoying on the clearing of the throat. I just was going to suggest that you have a bottle of water or something to help soothe the throat since you have been talking a lot. 😅 I absolutely love all your wips. I’m working on my very first HAED this year and I got it in a max color size 😂 hopefully ill have it done when I’m 45 who knows 🤷‍♀️🤣🤣 Have a great day of stitching 😊🧵

    Could I ask, I’m getting things together to start my first Mira, and looking for fabric? Where do you get your 32 count? Your variety is so inspiring.

  • @StitchinMommy

    @StitchinMommy

    I have sourced my 32 count fabric from a variety of places. My seasonal Mirabilia queens are on craft store fabric! The selection at Joanns and Michaels might just be white, if they have it at all anymore, but Hobby Lobby stocks a couple colors in that count, I think. Just make sure the size is big enough for a Mira - craft store packages aren't always a fat quarter. You can also find lots of colors and brands at 123stitch.com, and their prices are quite reasonable. I placed an order a few years back at Colour & Cotton while they were having a sale and got several Mira fabrics then. They have recently opened a brick & mortar store in St. Louis, MO, so their ready-to-ship selection on their website might be limited, but I think you can still place made-to-order orders. There are also a large selection of other hand-dyed companies out there that look good with Mirabilia patterns, but their prices can be a bit higher than 123stitch. You can also look at designandfabricviewer.com/#/ which lets you pair patterns with fabrics from a selection of popular dyers to see how the design might look. I hope that helps!

    Enjoyed watching your WIP, I do have a question, why do you do full coverage patterns on hand dyed fabric, just curious?

  • @StitchinMommy

    @StitchinMommy

    10 ай бұрын

    The patterns I have that are truly full coverage are all on plain fabric. The patterns that I have in the "Full Coverage No Background" section are often stitched on hand dyed fabric because I'm removing the background and allowing the fabric to be the fun background instead of stitching it all. I do enjoy stitching my full coverage on colors other than white because it can help with coverage, but they are all commercially made solid colors, not hand-dyed. That being said, I have seen some stitchers choose to stitch full coverage on hand dyed fabric because those are the only kinds of patterns they stitch and they want to enjoy the pretty fabric during the long time it will take to stitch the design. :) I stitch a variety of styles of patterns, so I won't waste my money on hand-dyed for full coverage and will use them instead with my Mirabilias and such. :)

    What is a master set of DMC? How does it work? I have heard other people talk about this

  • @StitchinMommy

    @StitchinMommy

    10 ай бұрын

    I have a Double Sided Thread Organizer (intended for sewing thread) that can hold a bobbinated set of all 450 DMC colors. Then, when I have a project that calls for DMC, I just pull the color from my box, use it, then put it back, so it's ready to go for any other project I have that might also use that color. I only match threads up with projects when I am using fancy floss, since those are more unique and limited.

    How do you get so much stitching done in such a short amount of time?

  • @StitchinMommy

    @StitchinMommy

    10 ай бұрын

    I think I tend to stitch quickly, so when I do have time to stitch, I can get more stitches in than some. But, some of it is also redeeming the time - stitching in the car, stitching while watching low-interest TV, stitching instead of playing on my phone (this one is tricky for me when I'm tired!), etc.
