Relying on illegal immigrants for labor, allows an employer to pay under min wage, and ignore safety and workplace regulations The silver lining here is that by forcing illegals out of the state, it will force employers to meet these min standards, or go out of business - however, given the length of time this has been going on, the "go out of business" option is going to be forced on a lot of people. What is needed is a path to make illegal immigrants legal, so they can be protected under the law, and provide the services the business community needs.

Farm work is hard outdoor work, sometimes back-breaking stoop labor, sometimes hand-numbing picking and packing, often under a relentless hot sun. What he is doing to the farms and the schools, etc. ... It's going to take a while until we see the true cost of these regressive policies. I thought it might be a great land grab (farmlands for developments) but without the basic services that Florida already had, I can't see that being a profitable idea right now. I lived in Florida for 50 years and while I saw people move in, I also saw a lot of people move out for a better life elsewhere as soon as they could.. I keep checking his bio because I can't believe he grew up in the same Florida that I did. But I guess he didn't, because my part of Florida always understood the value of immigrants to our economy. I was ready to board a flight home after taking a 4-day weekend there, but of course had to grab my bags off the carousel and drive home below empty skies. For a few years, I looked forward to going back, but since then I've found places I like better. It's not even a red/blue issue. Some places I go on vacation now are way redder than FL. But they're safer, cleaner, happier places with people who can watch a different news channel than you, and still treat you like a welcome guest. Places where they'd help you fix your car at the side of the road even if you've got a Philadephia Eagles or NY Yankees bumper sticker.

The farmers were talking about it to a news crew 🤣🤣🤣 Edit: For everyone saying why I'm laughing. Because these were people saying that jobs were taken from them. So when they did the jobs "taken from them," they couldn't keep up. So it is funny. Also working the land is not easy. And yes, everyone should have good and fair pay for doing such hard labor. But sadly, it's not like that. So if you're going to complain about undocumented taking your jobs, and then you can't do the job, maybe you should stay quiet and take a seat.

The average citizen is not used to, or willing, to work in those conditions. Conditions that many immigrants are okay dealing with because many just want to make a decent living, and those jobs are usually openly available for them due to the conditions. The "problem" is that the GOP continues to try and block people getting those visa's, reducing the number of visa's issued, etc. Just saying, "well, we need this", doesn't acknowledge the reality of what is happening and been happening for a long LONG time. Even then, the workers that come in on work visas, such as J1s, are often abused by the employer. Case in point, my wife works at a hotel that regularly get J1 workers to do housekeeping duties (because the American's in the area just won't do the job). Because the owner of the hotel has children that also own other hotels in the area, the J1's work at the one hotel for 8 hrs, then are sent to the OTHER hotel to work, and don't get overtime because the two hotels are "separate chains" under different "ownership".

It's gotten so bad in some of the tourist enclaves in Florida that you now have to request that housekeeping come make up your hotel rooms (make the bed, pull your trash, and supply fresh towels), as it's not done until you check out!

You mean stop human trafficking but you probably like sub-minimum wagers. You probably feel wealthy with immigrant labor camps ran by cartels. Huh? Or is their slavery invisible to you? Illegal immigrates are trafficked by farms and having no documentation just makes this easier. Do you support the $15 minimum wage or do agricultural immigrates not deserve that?

@@toneyingram732 Yeah they support open borders and advocate for the cartels by pretending to care by letting them work a wage they wouldn’t take. Lose agriculture is a joke and tourism is booming in Florida in fact they are the fastest growing state. Which accounts for their inflation too as people move in housing will naturally increase in cost and other items too. This guy is pulling this comment straight out of his A$$.

You forgot to put illegal in front of the word immigrant. Just like this piece left it out. I’m an independent and I see the need for this but the way it was implemented was messed up.

Wait until they start getting letters from their HOAs telling them labor went up so their groundskeeper fees have doubled.

I don't mind paying higher fees to legal citizens. It's illegal and unethical to keep illegals here just to benefit from lower cost.

Not going to happen. Anyone being hired in HOA neighborhoods use qualified and licensed labor and we're already paying a premium. Good try though.
