Head Nets are cheap and effective. Rather can pack a tent. i carry a sleeping hammock with a net cover. And, a light weight plastic tarp that I often stretch above it. Light to pack and keeps me dry.

Great video! We did some of the Ocala section a couple years ago during winter so the bugs weren’t as bad. The only problem was the controlled burn ran us out! Love the Florida trail though! It is a lot different than what we are used to up here in the hills! I recommend a small thermocel to get rid of bugs, especially at camp!

Were you guys dropped off? Where did you park if you drove in? Thinking I might do this section hike, looks really cool. Love the videos!

Make sure to watch part 2 & 3 as well :) We Parked at Suwannee River State Park and spent the first and last nights there. We used John from Canoe Adventures to shuttle us back to SWSP at the end of where we hiked to. We plan to go back this winter to finish that section going that direction as well. Feel free to ask any other questions and thanks for watching!

This was April 2021. The water levels had just come down from flood stage. People that hiked this section a few weeks before us had run into chest-deep water in places. It is always best to check with the local transporters in the area, or inquire on The Florida Trail FB page before you go.
