Porterweed is a super underrated plant. Probably the top pollinator attractor plant in Florida.

Thank you for the video. I moved into my home a year ago in central Florida and saw these plants. I was told it was a butterfly plant. I finally have the correct name. They are very pretty and send off babies throughout the yard.

Is there a non native that looks just like this? I have one that grew to 6 feet tall and at least 5 wide in less than 2 years! Always full of bees of all kinds, and it reseeded a lot... Wondering if I have one that I shouldn't allow to grow in my garden... It looks exactly like the one you showcased but much taller and wide. Same bloom color and leaf shape, etc.. Would appreciate your advice 🙂🌿🌺

Hi, yes, you could have a different porterweed variety. There is an invasive variety Stachytarpheta cayennensis that grows to your height of 6', so you might want to be careful adding any more into your garden. 😀🪴

Would this plant be equally as happy in a container? Or do you think it needs to be planted in ground?
