They were playing PLO. In PLO, a player must use 2 of their cards out of the 4 they are dealt and 3 cards from the board. He only had one spade (Ace of spades) in his hand. He would need the Ace of spades and another spade in his hand to make a flush with 3 spades on the board. Hope that helps!

That bluff at the end and those flips were unnecessary. You have to be more careful in locking up wins. Being up is a good feeling but being upstuck well you already now. When i play now and i am winning i try to remember the times when i became upstuck and learn from it. Hope you do too.
