    Just found this video. This is first one I've found that clearly states that the jack needs to be clear to move under the load. Very clear presentation. Excellent stuff.

    Great video. I'm sorta new to auto DIY, so this was super helpful. If I'm jacking up to change oil, do I also have to put two more jack stands in the back to level the car. It would seem the oil might not totally drain if the car was not level (like on a lift). Thanks.

    The light is from Blue Point (aka SnapOn). It is a rechargeable LED tube light that has a extendable bracket to hook under hoods. I have had it for many years and really like it. This is a similar version but it is not cordless like mine: www.snapon-bluepoint.com.sg/category/Lighting/product/168-LED-Under-Hood-Light

    You caulk the back wheels, so it wouldn't roll backwards. But once you raised the front wheels, what's to keep the car from rolling forward? I would have caulk one rear wheel front and back.

    When buying a floor jack what do you recommend I buy? Autozone has something that is $69 and Walmart has a floor jack that is $130. I don't want to overpay for a carjack, but I also want something that is quality.

    Quality is costly I guess $130 sounds about right for a good car jack

    Since you had a mfr lift point at the front of the vehicle (at center), why not use the crimp points designed by the mfr for lifting (it's reinforced), and it is also where shops with dual post lifts place their arms for raising the vehicle. The jacks are then farther apart, and out of the way, with more room to work under the car. I also would not rely on a pair of stands. For safety, add a second pair of stands, also leave the hydraulic jack in position under the car, and toss your wheels you removed under the car. They are better placed here than against a wall serving no useful purpose. Go with over rated jack stands (instead of 3 ton, go for the 6 ton....safer). The pin designs are better than ratchet style for safety. I use 7 ton stands, and the pins are 1 inch thick.... the same used as on the 22 ton stands. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZN7xNxym5jdd5s.html

    It's a Blue Point (SnapOn Brand). Nothing special about it other than being a bit over priced. I just like the handle on it for students learning for the first time.

    My car is stored in my garage and the rear end is close to the back wall and needs to stay in it’s present location. Can I use the floor jack from the side of the car to lift the rear portion of the car?

    Good information.I still am not clear on what the problem was that required you to readjust the one jackstand.I wish you could have held up a drawing showing what the issue was.

    With the way cars are made today much of the car undercarriage is subject to being bent cracked by using floor jacks..

    the jack stands need to go on solid steel. The pinch weld or sub frame will generally bend or be damaged unless specific stands are used that are wide enough support the pinch weld without crushing it. Engine cradle or control arms are much more durable.

    What if you don’t get the option for concrete? : /

  • @saysomething2995

    @saysomething2995

    Don't do it. Always do work on concrete. Gravel and dirt isn't safe. Some people take chances with jacking up their car on gravel and dirt. It isn't worth it;especially if you're getting under the car. Play it safe.

    If no concrete floor, than place jack stands on plywood (and go with the stands with wide flat base). Also, you need a sheet of plywood for the jack itself (with 1/8 inch sheet metal attached to top of it) for the jack front wheels to smoothly roll like on concrete.

  • @MrAdkinsAuto

    @MrAdkinsAuto

    I do not like to use or rely on the parking brake when jacking up a vehicle. Reason is: if the owner never uses the parking brake then it may become permanently stuck on once it is applied. Using quality wheel chocks is much better and more reliable than the parking brake. Hope this clears things up.
