It’s surprising to me that they don’t throw tarps over that new construction with all that lumber and plywood being exposed. 🙏

The pooling in the road is just poor road and drainage design.

I live in LA but my folks live out your way. We can get crazy rain and within less than an hour you cannot tell it rained that day. We have great drainage in most areas. Why not fix that vs rebuilding at this time?!

You are making an apples and oranges comparison. The elevation of LA is 305 feet. The elevation of Ft Myers is 10 feet. The highest point in ALL of Florida is only 40 feet above LA. You need elevation to create good flow. If you raised Fort Myers a couple hundred feet their drainage would work. In Fort Myers you get flooding. In the LA area you get landslides which is an indication that the drainage is not sufficient to deal with extraordinary rainfalls any more than Ft Myers. These extreme weather events are becoming more common everywhere in the continental US and the drainage systems were designed and built long before that was the case.

Building at ground level on Fort Myers Beach is ridiculous. Gotta be elevated on pylons.

Hmmm. Interestingly enough, Florida Governor Ron Desantis just signed a bill into law striking "climate change" from state legislation...
